Though being a Tamil hero, Karthi has been quite popular in Telugu films too. He is so popular that, almost every film of his is being dubbed into Telugu. Karthi is seen thoroughly working on his film to improve his Telugu market after doing a film like Oopiri. His last film Cheliya was a disaster at the Telugu box office, while his previous film Kashmora remained as a decent grosser. Recently, the Tamil hero has come with one more film ‘Khakee’, dubbed version of Tamil film Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru.

Story:

Dheeraj Hari Prasad (Karthi) falls in love with the girl-next-door Priya (Rakul Preeth Singh) during his training period as an IPS officer. The couple’s relationship blossoms and heads towards a marriage. But, being a new officer, Dheeraj is repeatedly transferred from one place to another. During this time, Dheeraj’s starts to focus on a case relating to murdering of a family leaving along the Chennai Highway.

As he investigates further into the case, Dheeraj finds out that a Rajasthan gang that is responsible for this horrific murder and many more murders that have taken place around the nation. In his quest to see the end of the Rajasthan Gang, 1 ½ years pass by. The rest of the story deals with the vengeance he had to face from the Rajasthan Gang, and how he managed to deal with it.

Analysis:

The director has surely come out with a good crime-thriller story for the film. Though many films in the past have been on the same lines, watching Khakee gives us a fresh feeling. The audience might recollect a hint of Dandupalyam and Gharshana movies for a brief moment during few investigative scenes. The romantic scenes in the film appear to be distracting and unsettling from the outset. But the director gives a proper backdrop for the romantic track between the lead actors. The film is a good watch for crime-thriller genre audience.

The narration of the story from the perspective of a ‘Police Mind’, along with the perspective of the hero and the villain makes it more interesting and gripping. The director managed to clearly illustrate the difficulties an honest police officer come across while investigating a case, and also exemplified the cruel mind of a criminal.

The director’s success lied in his ability to show Karthi as an ‘Angry Young Man’. This film will be refreshing to the audience who have seen Karthi as a lover boy so far. Both Rakul Preeth Singh and Abhimanyu Singh breath life in their characters on screen.

Positive Points:

  • Narration and Direction
  • Hero
  • Villain

Drawbacks:

  • Slight drag
  • Extreme Reality in few scenes

Telugu Bullet Punchline: Watch Khakee to understand the reality of an honest Police Officer!

Rating: 3/5
