Accepted the decision in the best interest of the party

After a period of uncertainty, the suspense regarding the Chief Minister of Karnataka has finally ended. D.K. Shivakumar, the state Congress chief, has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister and has accepted the decision in the best interest of the party.

Shivakumar made this announcement while addressing the media at the residence of party general secretary K.C. Venugopal. He emphasized that the party’s high command had made the decision and he accepted it for the larger interest of the party.

The suspense was resolved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who selected Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister and Shivakumar as his deputy after a series of meetings held over three days. Both leaders had been competing for the top post.

Siddaramaiah is expected to meet Venugopal before heading to Bengaluru, where the CLP meeting has been convened to formally announce the decision. In the May 10 elections, the Congress party secured 135 out of 224 seats, while the BJP won 66 seats and the JD(S) secured 18 seats.
