Sanjay Dutt’s alma mater restrained from receiving fees

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has restrained the prestigious Lawrence School at Sanawar in Kasauli hills, which boasts of alumni like Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, from receiving additional fees for holding virtual classes owing to the pandemic.

A Division Bench of Justices Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Joytsna Rewal Dua directed the state Education Secretary and the school headmaster to file a reply or instructions before the next date of hearing on July 20.

In a one page order on Tuesday, the court restrained the school from receiving the balance amount of fee of Rs 170,800.

The court passed the order on the petition of Deepak Gupta, who moved the court on July 7. His son is in Class 8 of the boarding school located in Solan district.

“Sending the child to the boarding is a big decision which is always taken by the parents for the betterment of a child’s future so that he could become physically and mentally strong,” the petitioner said.

He said the school demanded a total fee of Rs 636,200 in January as it was payable in two installments. The first installment was of Rs 401,700 and was paid before February 15.

The second installment of Rs 2,34,500 was to be paid on or before July 15.

He said the school opened on February 15 and the child was taken to the home on March 17 due to the pandemic.

The petitioner said the state higher education on May 27 directed the private schools not to charge any fee, except tuition fees, and the tuition fee could not be collected on a quarterly basis.

Nearly 140 parents sent a digitally signed representation requesting the school for waiving the school fee.

Ignoring the parents’ request, the school on July 3 demanded Rs 1,70,800, instead of Rs 2,34,500 from the parents, reducing the fee merely to 11 percent (Rs 63,700).

The school started the online classes on April 6, comprising four sections of 120 students in one go compared to regular classes of 20 to 30 students.

Moreover, the petition says, there are no extracurricular activities along with no board and lodging facilities extended to the students amid the lockdown.

The residential Lawrence School also boasts of alumni like Punjab’s former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Chris Pratt on what he loves and hates about his superhero gear as Star-Lord

Actor Chris Pratt, who played Star-Lord in superhero films like “Avengers: Infinity War”, says he loved the long jacket that his character wore.

“You know I really love my long jacket and when I get to wear that long jacket it’s really cool. It’s leather, it moves, and the first time I ever wore it was the first time I ever felt like I was the character. So, that jacket is good but my least favorite is the helmet,” he said.

“When I put on that helmet they bolted on my head, there is wind and there is rain. I can’t breathe and I can’t see it. There is supposed to be some device inside that has the director’s voice going through but it’s killing me with feedback, and I don’t say the damn thing, I’ll act through the helmet. I hate the helmet but I love the jacket,” he added, about working in “Avengers: Infinity War”, which will air on Star Movies.

Ragini Prajwal on debut film: The most excited person is my father-in-law

Debutante actress Ragini Prajwal plays the female protagonist in the upcoming Kannada film “Law”, and she is excited and nervous at the same time. The film releases digitally this weekend, skipping theatrical release due to the global COVID pandemic.

“It was more than enough for me to feel thousands of butterflies in my stomach because it is my debut film, but then the trailer released and all the response started pouring! I am on my feet now! People are accepting and ready to take on a courtroom drama. A subject like this is a progressive sign. (I am) Keeping my fingers crossed,” Ragini told IANS.

“Considering the response we have got from the trailer, I trust that we will have a great opening when the film premiers on the OTT platform. I just want people to receive the film the way they received the trailer. I just hope the audience sees the effort and passion we put in together for the film.” she added.

Directed by Raghu Sarnath, “Law” also features Siri Prahalad, Achyuth Kumar, Mukhya Mantri Chandru, Krishna Hebbale, Rajesh Nataranga, and Mandya Ramesh.

Ragini is married to the celebrated Kannada actor Prajwal Devaraj, and according to the actress, her family has been the biggest support system in her new journey of cinema.

“Prajwal has done more than 30 films in the Kannada film industry and he was recalling his debut that happened 10 years ago. It is really a good fortune for me that in the digital era, my debut film is getting such great exposure. But the most excited and enthusiastic person is my father-in-law (veteran Kannada actor Devaraj).

“Every morning, since the trailer has released, he would come to us and say, ‘so how many views and likes today?’ he is counting on those numbers that we are getting on social media! I have a very supportive family!” smiled the actress.

Rajkummar Rao to star in Hindi remake of Telugu thriller ‘HIT’

Actor Rajkummar Rao is all set to star in the Hindi remake of Telugu super hit cop thriller “HIT”.

“HIT”, which stands for Homicide Intervention Team, tells the story of a police officer who is on the trail of a missing woman. Director Sailesh Kolanu, who garnered accolades for the Telugu original, will helm the project in Hindi.

“When I saw ‘HIT’, I instantly connected with it. It’s an engaging story, relevant in today’s environment. As an actor, I am always on the lookout to play characters I haven’t explored and ‘HIT’ gives me a chance to do that. I’m looking forward to taking this journey with Sailesh and (producer) Dil Raju,” said Rajkummar.

On working on the Hindi remake, Kolanu said: “The first case of ‘HIT’ tells the story of a police officer who is constantly fighting a battle with his past and his present. So it’s a troubled character. I wanted to cast someone who can bring that darkness to the role and still make the audience root for him with a mature performance. I felt Raj can evoke that kind of response. I have been following Rajkummar’s work ever since I watched ‘Shaitan’. He is a terrific actor and has managed to surprise us every time with his performances.”

“HIT” is planned as a massive investigation franchise in the South and Kolanu is keen to follow that in Bollywood too.

Sharing his thoughts, the director said: “Yes, I see ‘HIT’ has the potential to be a successful franchise in Bollywood too. I feel the premise of ‘HIT’ is very global. Of course, I will be making very minor changes to suit the sensibilities of the audience all over India. The idea is to create a realistic world of crime and investigation and put a bunch of beautifully flawed and grey characters in that world. And then let multiple stories unfold within that world.”

Producer Dil Raju, who is remaking Nani’s “Jersey” in Hindi with Shahid Kapoor, will be backing the venture along with Kuldeep Rathore.

The film is in pre-production and will go on floors in 2021. Other details will be announced soon.

Vaani Kapoor: I’m happy with work resuming after a long break

Actress Vaani Kapoor has started shooting for her upcoming film “Bell Bottom”, and she says she is just happy to resume work after a long break.

“I, honestly, am just happy with work resuming after a long break. One will of course have to be extra cautious and keep all preventive measures in mind but it feels exciting to embark on a new journey!” Vaani said.

The film’s lead star Akshay Kumar and the producers have taken the decision to start shooting the film and apparently it will be filmed in Scotland.

On working with Akshay for the first time, Vaani said: “Well, this is a great opportunity for me! I have great respect for Akshay sir. It’s super exciting and I am really looking forward to the experience.”

The actress will be shooting for the first time in Scotland and, although not confirming the location of the shoot, Vaani says she is looking forward to making memories despite the pandemic.

Inspired by true events, the film is set in the eighties and narrates the story of one of India’s forgotten heroes. Directed by Ranjit M. Tewari, “Bell Bottom” is scheduled to go on floors later this year. It is written by Aseem Arora and Parveez Shaikh.

Karan Tacker moves in with parents due to Covid scare

Actor Karan Tacker has temporarily shifted to Lonavala to stay with his parents, owing to the continuing rise in Covid-19 cases in the city.

“We are staying at Amby Valley. The reason behind moving out of the city was that there have been a lot of cases being reported in Mumbai. My building had a few cases and my parents are getting older. I am constantly worried about their health,” said Karan.

“Fortunately, none of us have contracted anything yet, but keeping all of this in mind we thought it’s a good idea if we could step away from the city, just to be safe,” he added.

However, he feels there is a lack of medical facilities where he is currently staying.

“The pitfall of moving out of the city is the lack of medical facilities. But I am with my parents and, fortunately, Lonavala and Amby Valley do have medical facilities. Maybe, not as good as Bombay but we are all healthy individuals and, in the worst-case scenario, god forbid, we can all just travel back to Mumbai to a hospital,” Karan added.

He also spoke about his plans to return to Mumbai.

“I hope to be back ASAP because I do miss Mumbai, home, and work. All of us do. As soon as the pandemic comes to some sort of (a stage of) settling down that would be the best scenario to return to Mumbai. As far as shoots are concerned, if I do end up going on shoots, I will probably quarantine myself after a shot because I don’t intend to put my parents at risk. If my parents are here I can quarantine myself in my Mumbai house,” Karan shared.

On the work front, Karan was last seen in the web-show ” Special Ops”.

Allu Arjun – Sukumar’s Pushpa is one of those big-ticket films that got disturbed and delayed much due to the coronavirus. While the first look of Bunny’s intense and rugged attire from Pushpa enthralled the audience very much in the lockdown time, the rumors that Vijay Sethupathi walked out of the project let down many.

There is no clarity yet on why Vijay Sethupathi decided to quit Pushpa and who is being approached in his place until today. Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi himself revealed in a Tamil interview that he had to give up his role in Pushpa due to the issue of the dates.

Vijay clarified that he very much liked the role offered to him, but the delays with the other films during the corona time left him without dates to accommodate for Pushpa.

Vijay said he had to walk out of Pushpa just because he did not want to trouble the team later with his tight schedules and prior commitments taking the front seat. It looks like Vijay Sethupathi’s intention to not to trouble Pushpa is the only reason to move away, but not the huge remuneration he is rumored to have demanded to be part of the Bunny-Sukumar film.

Well, this is what Vijay has to say and the role he quit is now heard to be offered it to Bobby Simha or Aravind Swamy.
