BTS earns sixth No. 1 album with ‘Proof’ despite group’s upcoming hiatus

0

Popular K-pop band BTS’ new compilation album ‘Proof’ has granted the powerhouse their sixth No. 1 album to debut atop the Billboard 200 chart, despite their upcoming break.

According to ‘Variety’, four days before ‘Proof’ dropped, the group announced they would be taking a break to focus on their solo careers.

That news had little impact on the Army, however, as ‘Proof’ opened at No. 1 on the album chart (dated June 25), with the equivalent of 314,000 sales in the US, according to Billboard via Luminate.

A large part of that unit figure was motivated by CD album sales, which included an extra 13 tracks as opposed to the digital download and streaming album.

The album, released June 10, is a three-disc compilation with a large majority of its contents being previously released material.

‘Proof’ also features three all-new tracks, including ‘Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)’, which entered at No.1 on the Billboard’s Global-Excluding-US chart, extending BTS’ own record for a 17th week top Billboard’s Global-Excluding-US chart.

On the same chart, Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’ bounced back for a 10th week at No. 1, while Joji’s ‘Glimpse of Us’ and Bad Bunny’s ‘Efecto’ made their debut in the tier.

According to ‘Variety’, Bad Bunny’s ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ slipped to a No. 2 spot on the new Billboard 200 with 129,000 equivalent album units earned while Styles’ ‘Harry’s House’ remains stagnant on the Billboard 200 at No. 3 with 91,000 equivalent album units.

SZA’s ‘Ctrl’ jumped from No. 35 to No. 9 on the 200 chart, following the album’s fifth-anniversary deluxe reissue (released June 10) which added seven previously unreleased songs to the 14-track album.

Post Malone’s ‘Twelve Carat Toothache’ falls 2-4 in its second week.

Morgan Wallen’s ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’ is still at No. 6, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ slides 5-7 and Olivia Rodrigo’s aSour’ remains at No. 8.

Carrie Underwood also earned her 10th consecutive top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 with her new studio release ‘Denim & Rhinestones'” It closes the Billboard 200 chart at No. 10 with 31,000 equivalent album units earned.

Jack Harlow’s ‘First Class’ remains in the No. 2 spot on the chart, after three non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 while Future’s ‘Wait For U’, featuring Drake and Tems, is steady at No. 3.

Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time’ bumps 5-4 and Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ slips to No. 5 on the Hot 100.

Last week, it had climbed to a No. 4 peak, just two weeks after it re-entered the chart at No. 8. Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’ recurs at No. 6 on the Hot 100, after five weeks at No. 1; Latto’s ‘Big Energy’ stays at No. 7, and Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone’s ‘Me Porto Bonito’ is steady at No. 8.

Naga Chaitanya said to be dating ‘Major’ actress Sobhita Dhulipala

0

The latest outing from ‘Pinkvilla’ claims to have seen ‘Majili’ actor Naga Chaitanya with actress Shobita Dhulipala.

Following his divorce from Samantha Ruth Prabhu, there have been allegations that Naga Chaitanya has been seeing the ‘Major’ actress.

According to rumors, Chaitanya was seen with Sobhita Dhulipala in his new home, which is not the first time they have been seen together.

Naga Chaitanya has purchased a beautiful property in the Jubilee Hills neighborhood of Hyderabad, which is now under construction.

The two, Naga Chaitanya and Shobita, were reportedly sighted visiting the location, most likely taking a tour around the place. “After a few hours, they left together in the same car,” the source claimed.

Since the news surfaced, it has caused a debate on social media, with Samantha’s followers assuming that Naga Chaitanya’s affair with Shobhita was the reason for their split, while Naga Chaitanya’s admirers insist that this is not the case.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya announced their separation in a joint statement on social media in October 2021, only days before their 4th wedding anniversary.

Heartwarming to receive appreciation for hard work on ‘O2’: Thamizh A Azhagan

0

Cinematographer Thamizh A Azhagan, who impressed industry pundits by shooting Venkat Prabhu’s Tamil film ‘Manmatha Leelai’ in just 18 days, is yet again in the spotlight for his excellent work in the recently released Nayanthara-starrer ‘O2′.

The movie, directed by G.S. Viknesh, has been receiving appreciation ever since it was released on Disney+ Hotstar.

In particular, the visuals of a bus buried in a landslide and the shots inside the buried bus have all been garnering praise for cinematographer Thamizh A Azhagan.

Sharing his experience of working on the movie, Thamizh A Azhagan says, “Director GS Viknesh is a close friend. He narrated the script back in 2019 and I was keen on delivering visuals that looked real. Although sets were erected for the landslide and bus scenes, I wanted them to look so real that the audiences didn’t get to know that it was a set.”

“Besides, I wanted to make sure that the audiences understood and felt the characters’ desperation to survive. So, I started preparing for ‘O2’ in 2019, even before the commencement of the shoot. Every single scene was visualised first, with appropriate detailing, lighting graph and was finalised before going to the set. All these measures have helped us deliver a positive output.”

“I shot the entire movie by hand. That is to say, I shot the movie by placing the camera on my shoulders. Although it was a complicated and exhausting task, it was what was required. The cinematographer had the responsibility of conveying the pathos, pain, and fear of every single character inside the bus to the audience.

“So, I decided to experience the same emotions and behaved like a victim trapped in a similar situation. This, I believe, has helped me deliver their emotions,” says Thamizh Azhagan, who acknowledges that it is heartwarming to receive appreciation for two years of backbreaking hard work.

The film is about a mother, who with her eight-year-old son, gets stuck inside a bus that is buried in a landslide. The kid, battling a chronic lung disorder, cannot survive without the aid of an oxygen cylinder. A cop, who is also a passenger, looks to get his hands on the oxygen cylinder to survive. How the mother deals with the situation and saves her son forms the crux of this story.

Kiran Abbavaram wants film critics not to write early reviews

0

Telugu actor Kiran Abbavaram has appealed to film critics not to write reviews for films immediately after their release.

Kiran made his Telugu debut in 2019 with the love narrative ‘Raja Vaaru Rani Garu’ and has hits like ‘SR Kalyanamandapam’. Now that his upcoming rom-com ‘Sammathame’ is releasing soon, Kiran Abbavaram has a message to the Telugu movie reviewers.

Kiran has lately made an open call to the film reviewers to refrain from writing evaluations for films shortly after their release.

“Instead of offering reviews on Friday (the first day of film releases), delay a bit and express your reviews on Monday,” stated the young actor.

“You can totally bash a film if it is poor. However, please wait until Monday. For the first three days, let the audience watch the film and pass judgment. This is my sincere proposal to the community of film critics,” Kiran said.

Small-budget films that rely primarily on early reviews are being harmed, therefore the actor has made this appeal in order to give small films the benefit of the doubt, even if they aren’t as entertaining as predicted.

Kiran voiced his opinion ahead of the premiere of his new film ‘Sammathame’ on June 24 in theatres. The movie has Chandini Chowdary in the female lead role.

Agnipath protests: Coaching centres instigated violence at Secunderabad station

0

The June 17 violence at Secunderabad railway station was pre-planned and the owners of coaching centres played a key role by instigating the youth, investigations by the railway police revealed.

The youth, who indulged in violence, had reached Hyderabad from different parts of Telangana a day before and came with bottles filled with petrol.

CCTV footage at the station also shows that they conducted recce before creating the mayhem. An official said the protesters entered the station from three sides. While 300 youths went on a rampage, over 1,500 protesters later joined to support them.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), coaching centres, which train youngsters aspiring for army jawan jobs, played a role in instigating the violence

About 2,000 aspirants from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had cleared the physical test and were awaiting the written test to be conducted. However, the written test was postponed six times due to various reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic. After the Centre announced the Agnipath scheme on June 14 and the written exam was cancelled, the aspirants were agitated.

They approached the coaching institutes which cited anti-Agnipath protests at a railway station in Bihar, where a train was burnt and said that if something similar was done here, it would draw the attention of the Central government, said Superintendent of Police GRP-Secunderabad, B. Anuradha.

Avula Subba Rao, an ex-serviceman, who runs a training academy in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has been detained in Andhra Pradesh for his suspected role in provoking youth.

Anuradha said owners of many other such coaching centres are now being identified. The protesters were mobilised through WhatsApp groups created on June 16.

Messages were circulated to the groups that only Central government property is to be attacked, mainly railway stations. Railway Station Block, Hakimpet Army Soldiers, Chalo Secunderabad ARO 3, Indian Army, Army GD 2021 March rally, CEC Soldiers and Soldiers To Die were the names of the WhatsApp groups created.

She said 46 persons have been arrested so far and the investigations were on to identify and arrest others who indulged in violence.

The Railway police booked the accused under sections 150, 151, and 152 of the Indian Railway Act and other laws. The official pointed out that conviction under section 150 could lead to life imprisonment.

The youth who have been booked will be ineligible to get a job in the army or in the government sector.

Anuradha said that it was a surprise attack. Protesters, who held an unlawful assembly, were armed with sticks and petrol. After entering the station, they started damaging CCTV cameras and display boards and then torched railway coaches and other property.

The official confirmed that it was the Railway Protection Force that opened fire to control the situation. A total of 20 rounds were fired during the protests. Of those, she said, one was a bullet and the rest were pellets.

One of the protestors D. Rakesh (22) died of a bullet injury. Thirteen others were hit by pellets and they are undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital.

I will keep supporting & buying Dogecoin crypto: Elon Musk

0

As all the leading cryptocurrencies get hammered, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said he will keep supporting and buying Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency he has been vouching about for years.

Amid the ‘crypto winter’, Dogecoin digital currency has tumbled from its high of nearly $0.74 to just over $0.05 in recent days.

In a tweet on Sunday, Musk said: “I will keep supporting Dogecoin.”

Reacting to a follower who asked him to keep buying Dogecoin too, Musk replied that he will keep purchasing the cryptocurrency.

Called ‘Dogefather’, Musk has long been a vocal proponent of Dogecoin and tweeted several times in the past to help spike the price of the digital token.

Last week, a Dogecoin cryptocurrency investor in the US sued Musk, Tesla, and SpaceX for $258 billion for allegedly operating an illegal racketeering enterprise to inflate the price of Dogecoin.

A class-action lawsuit was filed in a federal court in Manhattan, and the Dogecoin investor called for triple the damages of $86 billion, which is how much the plaintiff alleges has been lost by Dogecoin investors since Musk started tweeting about it, according to reports.

“Defendants falsely and deceptively claim that Dogecoin is a legitimate investment when it has no value at all,” the plaintiff Keith Johnson said in the complaint.

“Since Defendant Musk and his corporations SpaceX and Tesla, Inc began purchasing, developing, promoting, supporting and operating Dogecoin in 2019, Plaintiff and the class has lost approximately $86 billion in this Crypto Pyramid Scheme,” he added.

Earlier this year, Musk announced that the company’s supercharging stations will accept the cryptocurrency Dogecoin as payment.

Tesla does accept Dogecoin in its online store and there have been rumors of Tesla eventually accepting the crypto as a form of payment for its vehicles.

Musk has a significant personal investment in Bitcoin on top of Tesla’s investment and he has smaller Ethereum and Dogecoin holdings.

Rana Daggubati’s fans tell him to take it easy with his experimental approach

0

Rana Daggubati, who rose to fame across India for his portrayal in S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’, appears to have fallen short of the mark.

After the massive success of the ‘Baahubali’ duology, Rana hasn’t had much success, and his supporters are worried that he’s squandered the entire ‘Baahubali’ excitement.

The ‘Aranya’ star has been working on a variety of projects, and his fans have embraced his unconventional approach to acting. However, since then, his admirers have begun to get concerned because he has not achieved any sizeable hits.

Fans tell Rana to focus on building a strong market for himself and concentrate on commercial films in order to retake control of popular opinion.

‘Virata Parvam’, Rana’s most recent film, has had a dismal start with weekend box-office figures not encouraging.

“If all goes according to plan, Rana’s career will be on track in no time. He’s a seasoned performer. However, a few decisions were made incorrectly,” wrote one of his supporters on social media.

Rana’s participation in Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Bheemla Nayak’ had a bigger impact because the film had two strong actors going head-to-head. Apart from his trials with subjects, this is the type of subject Rana’s admirers want him to choose.

“I realized when I was in and out of sleep on the plane back to Chennai this morning that some of the truest emotions are felt on stage. It’s pretty wild how performing a song can jolt a quick lighting bolt of a feeling from your core and out through your body. Anything from regret to warmth to grit, and infinitely more.

The singer also went on to list some of his favorite moments from Sunday night’s performance and also wished people a happy Father’s day.

“Happy Father’s Day to all the dads. My dad is the dopest I know,” he said, in a lighter vein.
