Uganda will organize ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers for the African region

Uganda has been selected by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host the final round of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers for the African region. The Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA), Alan Mugume, confirmed the news, stating that the event will take place at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala from December 7 to 18. The participating teams will include Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Namibia, and two other teams that will qualify from the Division Two qualifiers in Botswana in October.

The ICC has specified that the top two teams from the qualifiers in Kampala will advance to the global qualifiers, representing Africa. The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in Bangladesh.

Joshua Mwanja, the UCA Operations Manager, expressed gratitude to the ICC for entrusting Uganda with another significant cricket event. He acknowledged the responsibility to prepare the grounds and secure local partners for support, emphasizing the association’s excitement to host the T20 Women’s qualifiers.

Uganda previously participated in the T20 Women’s global qualifiers in 2018 in the Netherlands after winning the African regional qualifiers in Namibia in 2017.
