For sexual assault, a professor was arrested in Assam
According to officials, an associate professor at the North Lakhimpur College in Assam has been detained on suspicion of sexually assaulting students inside a classroom while they were intoxicated. Dr. Hemanta Sarmah, a college instructor of Assamese, has been named as the culprit.
In the classroom, Sarmah allegedly assaulted a number of female pupils while intoxicated, according to reports. 58 college students complained in writing to Dr. Biman Chetia, the college’s principal, alleging that Sarmah had been drinking on two days last week when she was instructing.
Based on the allegations made by the pupils, the principal complained to the Lakhimpur Police Station, and Sarmah was subsequently detained on Sunday. In the meantime, a plot was planned against Sarmah notwithstanding his claims of innocence. The matter is currently the subject of more study.
