Under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, 200 units of free electricity in the state
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently made an announcement stating that all domestic consumers, including those living in rented accommodations, will receive 200 units of free electricity in the state. This decision was made to benefit the people and is not applicable to commercial buildings.
To avail of the benefits under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which offers free electricity, consumers must link their Aadhaar card with their Customer ID and Account ID. The guideline also clarifies that if a consumer has multiple connections, only one will be considered for the scheme.
However, these guidelines have raised concerns for individuals living in rented accommodations, as the electrical connections are often in the name of the property owners who own multiple properties.
Minister for Energy, K.J. George, addressed these concerns by assuring that the government will protect the interests of people living in rented accommodations, as they have been significant supporters of the Congress party.
Additionally, the Congress government in Karnataka has merged the Bhagya Jyothi, Kuteera Jyothi, and Amruta Jyothi schemes into the Bhagya Jyothi scheme.
