Google will establish a worldwide fintech operations hub in Gujarat.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Alphabet, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the company would establish its global fintech operation center in Gujarat’s GIFT City.
Pichai expressed that this move would solidify India’s fintech leadership, citing the success of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and Aadhaar. He also highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s visionary Digital India initiative, which he now sees as a blueprint that other countries are looking to emulate.
Pichai praised the pace of technological change in India, expressing excitement for India to share its experiences with the world as it assumes the G20 Presidency in 2023. The meeting between Pichai and Prime Minister Modi also discussed areas of collaboration, including artificial intelligence, fintech, research and development, and skill development.
