A 25-year-old Hyderabad student, enrolled in a Master’s program in IT in the United States, has been reported missing since March 7. Abdul Mohammed, studying at Cleveland University since May 2023, has not been in touch with his family since then. His father, Mohammed Saleem, received a distressing ransom call demanding $1200 for Abdul’s safe return, purportedly from a drug-dealing gang in Cleveland.
The caller menacingly threatened to trade Abdul’s kidney if the ransom was not paid promptly. Worried relatives filed a complaint with the Cleveland police, seeking urgent assistance from the Indian Council in Chicago on March 18.
