Two weeks after Karnataka State Cricket Association managing committee member Sudhindra P Shinde was questioned and arrested for his alleged involvement in the Karnataka Premier League betting/match-fixing scandal, the association said on Friday that he has been barred from all cricketing activities.
In a press release, KSCA president Roger Binny stated: “Sudhindra P Shinde had been arrested and questioned by the investigating authorities regarding his alleged involvement in the KPL related activities before his becoming a managing committee member. Mr. Shinde has been asked not to attend any meetings as a managing committee member nor participate in any cricket-related activities organized by the KSCA.”
For the first time, the state association also named the players and coaches who have been named in the scandal. Players CM Gautam, Abrar Kazi, Viswanathan M, Nishant Shekhawat along with coach Vinoo Prasad have been suspended and will not be permitted to participate in any cricketing activity organized by the KSCA. They are also prohibited from availing any services in the KSCA Sports Centre. Another player, Bhavesh Gulecha, has been suspended for not keeping the KSCA authorities informed of illegal approaches made to him.
The association had last month suspended Belagavi Panthers owner Asfak Ali Thara, who was among the first to be arrested. They have now stated that if he is found guilty of match-fixing/betting, the franchisee will be terminated. In a new development, Ballari Tuskers co-owner Arvind Reddy, who was called in for questioning on Wednesday by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), has been blacklisted by the association.
According to the statement, the association will accept his appointment as the authorized representative/authorized signatory for the Ballari Tuskers franchise and the Ballari Tuskers cricket team.
