Madlads NFT Breaks Internet due to High Demand

Date:

The Madlads NFT, a new form of digital collectibles from Solana’s ecosystem figures Armani Ferrante and Tristan Yver, has been delayed by almost 24 hours due to a surge of interest. The Madlads collection is expected to open to the public at 7:00 EST on Friday. A massive amount of internet traffic was directed towards the project, with billions of requests routed through the crypto wallet Backpack, leading to an effective DDoS attack. Ferrante and Yver are known for their custom take on NFTs called xNFTs, which represent tokenized code that denotes ownership rights over execution. The Madlads collection is set to be the first xNFT.

Ferrante explained that the delay came after a series of internet outages that restricted access to the mint by an hour and then a day. Heavy demand knocked out two RPC nodes and the user interface on Cloudflare. The Madlads collection can only be minted through Coral’s wallet app Backpack, which likely led to a sign-up boom for the app. Despite the delay, excitement for the Madlads NFTs continues to grow, with some NFT traders searching for any edge that might guarantee them access to the collection. However, buying into custom RPC nodes from Solana developer project Helius may not increase the chances of successfully minting a Madlad.
