Wearing Hijab in operating rooms will be decided by medical authorities
On Wednesday, a meeting was conducted by the authorities of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College to discuss whether permission should be granted for medical students wearing Hijab to cover their heads in the operation theatre.
The principal of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College received a request from seven Muslim women medical students on Monday. They sought permission to wear long sleeve scrub jackets and surgical hoods inside the operation theatre, citing their religious belief. The students, belonging to different batches ranging from 2020 to 2022, expressed difficulties in complying with the operation theatre dress code mandated by hospital regulations due to their religious attire requirements. The meeting aimed to address their request and make a decision regarding the matter.
