UP Police tweet on ‘Naatu Naatu’ goes viral

The Uttar Pradesh Police’s congratulatory message to team ‘RRR’ for winning the Golden Globe award for the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ has gone viral.

The message also reminds people of the “golden global rules of road safety”.

In its creative post on Twitter, the UP Police defined RRR as — ‘Respect the Red light on the Road’.

Giving a creative twist to the RRR poster, the UP Police also used the Golden Globe winner song ‘Naatu Naatu’ in its caption that read — “The nominations for Golden Glob(al) rules of #RoadSafety; #Naatu, Kabhi red light skip Kare; #Naatu, Kabhi tripling Kare; #Naatu, Kabhi drunken driving kare; #Naatu, Kabhi traffic rules tode”.

The tweet garnered over 40,000 views.

This is not the first time that the UP Police has earned accolades for its creative tweets.

Last year, in a post inspired by Akshay Kumar’s Bachchhan Paandey, the UP Police tweeted, “Bhai Ho Ya Godfather, Bhaukaal aur Bhay Sirf Kanoon Ka Chalega #ArmslengthfromCrime.”

The tweet, aimed at raising the issue of illegal firearms, was retweeted and lauded by Akshay Kumar himself.

Rahul Srivastav, additional SP in charge of the social media center said, “UP Police have always kept pace with the latest trends in cinema, sports, etc., and we have always lauded our star achievers in all walks of life. Giving a quirky twist to popular movies and songs for the issues of public concern helps us to capture the imagination of people more effectively.”

‘Shehzada’ trailer is a capsule of action, entertainment, drama & comedy

Fresh off the success of his OTT release ‘Freddy’, Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan now has another film to offer; a masala action entertainer which will bow in theatres titled ‘Shehzada’.

The trailer of the film was unveiled on Thursday and shows Kartik in the avatar of a quintessential masala film hero, who beats up baddies, does slapstick comedy, and does over-the-top action sequences.

The trailer, which is roughly 3 minutes in length, starts off with money shots of Kartik in action, kicking, running around, and beating goons to a pulp. It then introduces Kriti Sanon as it builds the chemistry between the two leads.

It then talks about Kartik being the actual heir of a wealthy family, who are unaware of his existence. All this while, Kartik, who is a lawyer in the film, has been raised by Paresh Rawal’s character.

Soon Kartik’s character realizes that Paresh’s character is not his actual father and what follows later forms the crux of the film. The trailer doesn’t keep anything under the shadows and gives away pretty much everything from the film’s plot.

While Kartik can be seen trying his hands at the Govinda-style comedy in the film, the trailer features generous amounts of action, entertainment, drama, and comedy.

The film has music by Pritam and Sonu Nigam makes a pleasant appearance in the trailer through his voice.

The film also stars Rajpal Yadav, Manisha Koirala, Sunny Hinduja, and Ronit Roy.

‘Shehzada’ has been directed by Rohit Dhawan, who is the brother of Bollywood star Varun Dhawan and the son of veteran director David Dhawan. The film is set to release in cinemas on February 10.

He revealed that he has such a strong team that he has a problem of plenty with many good players in the squad. “We have to look at the balance of our team. The hardest thing for us will be to find a way to fit all good players into the eleven. I just want all the boys to enjoy the cricket and their time in the UAE.”

Rovman Powell, the skipper of the Dubai Capitals, wants everyone to use the opportunity to improve, especially the UAE players. “This is the start of something special. Regina Cassandra plays a mighty cop in ‘Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke’

The trailer of the streaming series ‘Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke’ was unveiled on Thursday. It stars Sumeet Vyas, Regina Cassandra, Barun Sobti, Chandan Roy, Mita Vashisht, Deepika Amin, and Sandeep Dhabale.

As seen in the trailer, the thriller series narrates the tale of a courageous IPS officer Kavya Iyer (played by Regina) who battles against the militants and re-establishes the faith of the common man in law. Inspired by true events, the show sheds light on the complexities officers must bear in order to fulfill their duties for the country.

The 8-part series has been helmed by national award-winning director Srijit Mukherji and blends realism with compelling storytelling.

Commenting on the occasion of the trailer release, Sumeet Vyas said: “‘Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke’ is a tale that speaks volumes about women IPS officers who have been relentlessly serving our country. My respect for them has just increased after this show. Their commitment is unmatched.”

He added: “My character has a shade of grey so getting the nuances right was very important to me. I enjoyed preparing and making that switch from a sweet innocent man to Tauriq in ‘Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke’. The show will immerse the audience in a world of suspense, deceit, and exhilaration. I am hoping that it will lead to societal evolution and encourage gender neutrality for officers in uniform.”

Regina Cassandra said: “Getting under the skin of Kavya was an enriching experience. From emoting the character of a tough IPS officer and getting the body language correct to play a mother and daughter was demanding but exciting. Kavya is a strong-headed individual who manages to navigate through difficult situations and finds her way which really inspired me.”

She further mentioned: “While our society continues to grapple with gender discrimination, a series like Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke draws parallels and showcases what women are capable of. Kavya’s determination, empowering spirit, and humanitarian side underline the true essence of a hero. She is the epitome of a warrior. Despite being a mother, a wife, and a daughter, an IPS officer will go beyond her call for duty and serve her nation.”

Produced by Juggernaut Productions, the show will be available to stream on ZEE5 from January 26, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Anushka Sharma files plea against Sales Tax Dept, HC seeks Maha govt response

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma on Thursday challenged in the Bombay High Court the orders of the Maharashtra State Tax Department hiking levies on the payments she has received for endorsements and hosting award functions.

When the matter came up before a division bench of Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Abhay Ahuja, government pleader Jyoti Chavan sought time to file a reply.

Accordingly, the court has directed the state government to file its response in two of the pleas which were taken up and posted the matter for further hearing in February. 6.

Anushka has questioned the orders of the Deputy Commissioner, Sales Tax raising her dues for the assessment years 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015, and 2015-2016, under the Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act.

She has contended that the assessing officer had wrongly levied the ST and said that for 2012-2013, the ST was Rs 1.20 crore on her income of Rs 12.30 crore, and for 2013-2014, the ST was Rs 1.60 crore on around Rs 17 crore payments received by her.

In her plea, Sharma said that the assessing officer had erroneously held that she had acquired copyright through endorsements and anchoring function and had sold or transferred the same.

The actress, through her lawyer Deepak Bapat, has pointed out that the copyright of videos is always retained by the producer who also owns such videos and the performer’s rights which are not capable of being transferred or sold.

Bapat said in the petition that as per the MVAT Sec. 6(1), there shall be levied sales tax on the turnover of sales of goods, and unless it is established that there is a sale of goods, sales tax cannot be levied on it.

‘Naato Naato’, Telugu pride and its first flag-bearer, the original NTR

It was history repeating itself, this time neither as farce, nor as tragedy, when Andhra politicians invoked Telugu pride while celebrating the ‘RRR’ song ‘Naatu Naatu’ getting the Golden Globe for Best Original Score.

It was the grandfather of NTR Jr, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the Telugu superstar of his time and the original NTR, who became the first non-Congress chief minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1983, riding on the powerful slogan of Telugu Vari Atma Gauravam (or Telugu people’s self-respect). He was the supreme leader of the Telugu Desam Party, which is now helmed by his son-in-law, Chandrababu Naidu.

The ‘Naato Naato’ win was a booster dose for this ‘self-respect’, which NTR (the original) kept drumming home during his historic Chaitanya Ratham marathon mass contact movement across the state, which saw him covering 75,000 km on his remodeled Chevrolet van.

And guess who accompanied him throughout this crisscrossing of the then-unified Andhra Pradesh? It was NTR Jr’s father, Nandamuri Harikrishna, an actor who started his career playing the baby Lord Krishna in NTR’s 1967 mythological classic drama, ‘Krishnavataram’. Harikrishna eventually got elected as an MLA, became a minister under NTR, and also served as Rajya Sabha MP. He died in a car crash in 2018.

NTR Jr is Harikrishna’s son from his second wife, Shalini, a Kannadiga from Kundapur in the Udupi district of Karnataka.

The other star who shared screen space with NTR Jr, Ram Charan, also comes with a family history that, like everything else in Tollywood, is intertwined with that of the NTR clan. Although Ram Charan’s father, Telugu ‘Mega Star’ Chiranjeevi, has been a steadfast Congressman (he became India’s Tourism Minister under the stewardship of Manmohan Singh), he had great respect for NTR.

On May 28, 2020, on the occasion of NTR’s 97th birth anniversary, Chiranjeevi tweeted a throwback picture of him with the late former chief minister and Telugu icon with a message in Telugu, which when translated read: “The manliness of the Telugu race, the self-respect of the Telugu people. A memory that will never fade in the heart of the Telugu soil. The glory of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao is ajaramaram (death-defying).”

Chiranjeevi acted in the NTR film ‘Tirugu Leni Manishi’ in 1981. And it may seem pre-ordained that his son, Ram Charan, would be seen in action together with NTR’s grandson in a movie that has established a new milestone in Telugu cinema. And Pawan Kalyan, Chiranjeevi’s younger brother and founder of the Jana Sena Party, is in the news for warming up politically to Chandrababu Naidu and the Telugu Desam Party.

Of course, Chiranjeevi has had nasty political spats with NTR’s sixth son, the superstar and popular talk show host Nandamuri Balakrishna (better known as NBK), who also is the TDP MLA representing Hindupur, which had voted for NTR three times in succession since 1985, before sending NTR Jr’s father, Harikrishna, to the Assembly in 1996.

Hindupur has remained very much a TDP pocket borough since 1985, despite Andhra Pradesh moving back to the Congress under YSR (Y.S. Rajsekhara Reddy) and then into the hands of his son and present Chief Minister, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

NBK and Chiranjeevi have publicly kissed and made up, but the megastar doesn’t see eye to eye with the actor-producer-YSRCP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Mohan Babu.

Their differences overshadowed the 2021 elections to Tollywood’s powerful trade body, Movie Artists Association (MAA), when Chiranjeevi put his weight behind Prakash Raj for president against Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu’s son, who eventually won the bitterly fought race.

Talking about the intertwined world of Tollywood, it was Mohan Babu who produced NTR’s last movie, the 1993 blockbuster ‘Major Chandrakanth’.

Finally, one more NTR connection begs to find a mention. The late TDP leader and the chief minister were very keen on starring in the biopic of Alluri Sitarama Raju, the freedom fighter after whom Ram Charan’s character in ‘RRR’ is modeled, but the role in the 1974 film went to another Telugu superstar, Krishna, who passed away on November 15, 2022.

NTR was said to be quite upset about it, but Krishna, whose sons Ramesh and Mahesh Babu are carrying on his legacy, was a formidable actor, although his dalliance with politics, as a Congressman under Rajiv Gandhi, was cut short by the ascendancy of the TDP.

Twitter planning to sell inactive usernames via online auctions

Twitter will soon start selling usernames via online actions that have remained inactive in order to boost its revenues.

According to The New York Times, engineers at the company are planning to organize online auctions where people can bid for usernames or Twitter handles.

It is still unclear how much Twitter will charge for selling inactive usernames.

“The company has discussed selling some user names through online auctions, people with knowledge of the plans said,” according to the report.

In December, Musk said in a tweet that Twitter would soon start freeing up 1.5 billion usernames.

“Twitter will soon start freeing the namespace of 1.5 billion accounts,” posted Musk.

He said that these are “obvious account deletions with no tweets and no log-in for years”.

After acquiring Twitter for $44 billion, Musk posted that he was interested in freeing up accounts with desired usernames.

Since Musk’s takeover, the billionaire has been aiming to boost the company’s revenue, including charging money for its $8 Blue subscription service with verification.

Several advertisers have left the micro-blogging platform, as the company reduces internal revenue projections.

Musk also said that the micro-blogging platform is working on a process to inform the users whether their tweets have been suppressed under a process known as “shadow banning” and they can appeal against the ban.

Prem Rakshith’s hook step, Zelensky’s palace and ‘Naatu Naatu’

After bagging the Golden Globe award, ‘Naatu Naatu’ has become the latest craze but few people know about the hard work which has gone behind the song from Rajamouli’s historical epic drama, ‘RRR’.

It was not mere lyrics, music, singing, and action which made the song a big hit. Collective efforts by the entire team of artists led by director S.S. Rajamouli delivered something which won international acclaim and went on to win the Golden Globe award for the best original song.

Rajamouli, the filmmaker known for perfection, was satisfied with the song after as many as 18 takes.

The combination of music director M.M. Keeravani’s melodious music, the lyrics of Chandrabose, the voice of Rahul Sipligunj and Kala Bhairava, and choreography by Prem Rakshith produced a superb song that became the icing on the cake.

They all put in their best as Rajamouli wanted to film a mass song on Junior NTR and Ram Charan. He was keen that this song should be something different from others.

Prem Rakshith ensured that the hook step takes the song to another high. His team recorded 80 variations of hook steps. It finalized the best variation which went on to prove a huge hit.

To make sure that the steps by the two actors sync well, there were as many as 18 takes during the filming of the song. This was despite the fact that both Junior NTR and Ram Charan are known as the best dancers in Tollywood.

Film analysts say that this shows the level of perfection Rajamouli wanted to see in this key component of his production. Junior NTR had revealed during the promotion of the movie how the director kept on going for retakes as he felt that their efforts were not yielding the result he wanted to see.

Rajamouli shared another interesting aspect of the filming of this song during an interview. ‘Naatu Naatu’ was shot outside the Ukraine President’s palace. This was before the beginning of the war in that country.

According to the director, the building seen in the song is the Presidential palace and the Parliament building is located adjacent to it. Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky immediately accepted the request of the film unit for shooting the song in front of the palace.

Before becoming his country’s president, Zelensky was a television actor. He is said to have played the role of President in a television series.

‘RRR’ was released across the globe in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam simultaneously early this year. The film received a huge response in several countries, including the US and Japan.

Set in the 1920’s, ‘RRR’ is a fictitious story based on two real-life revolutionaries who fought the British Raj — Alluri Seetharamaraju and Komaram Bheem, played by Ram Charan and Junior NTR, respectively.

It became the third highest-grossing Indian film of all time, garnering about Rs 1,300 crore worldwide, and received international recognition.

A film with just puppies and a rooster, ‘Valatti’ all set for a notable first

The makers of ‘Valatti’, a magical love story in which puppies speak and sing, have released the motion poster of the movie.

The crew took more than three years to select and rear the puppies, train them for their roles, and complete the rest of the production. Producer Vijay Babu opined that ‘Valatti’ is the most experimental and also the toughest project that the Friday Film House has taken up to date.

Director Devan commented that ‘Valatti’ was his dream project.

Leading stars in Malayalam have been dubbed for the puppies and the rooster characters in the film. The makers have kept the names of the stars who had lent their voices to the film as a surprise till the premiere.

The makers, Friday Film House have earlier produced some refreshingly different films in Malayalam.

‘Valatti’ is yet another different and innovative entertainer that Friday Film House has produced after the super hit films ‘Philips and the Money Pen’, ‘Angamali Diaries’, the ‘Aadu’ series and the first OTT-exclusive release in Malayalam, ‘Sufiyum Sujathyum’.

The writer and director of this film Devan is the 14th debutante director that Friday Film House is introducing to the big screen.

‘Valatti’ presents many firsts to the Malayalam film industry. It is the first pan-Indian film without big stars to release worldwide in five languages — Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Apart from these, several dogs belonging to different breeds also feature in the supporting cast.

‘Valatti’ the 18th film from Friday Film House will be released in theatres during the summer break.
