Mahesh Babu’s PLHF to facilitate treatment for kids with congenital heart diseases

Firmly believing that tiny hearts deserve the greatest care, Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has now launched a foundation called the Pure Little Hearts Foundation (PLHF) at the Rainbow Children’s Heart Institute (RCHI) which will look to provide cardiac care for children.

The actor’s Mahesh Babu Foundation has joined forces with the RCHI for the noble initiative, as part of which economically-challenged children with congenital heart diseases would be treated at PLHF.

In India, congenital heart diseases account for 10 out of every 1,000 births. So, more than 200,000 children are born every year with congenital heart diseases.

Approximately one-fifth of these infants are likely to have a serious birth defect, requiring intervention during the first year.

Families of a majority of such kids are unable to afford quality children’s cardiac care, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Learning about this, Mahesh Babu, through his Foundation, has now collaborated with Rainbow Children’s Heart Institute and launched the Pure Little Hearts Foundation.

Speaking at the launch of the foundation, Mahesh Babu said, “Children have always been close to my heart. I am happy to support children who need cardiac care at RCHI through the Mahesh Babu Foundation. Tiny hearts deserve the greatest care.”

Mahesh Babu has been a strong supporter of causes that save sick children. The actor, through his foundation, has facilitated heart operations for over 1,000 children through Andhra Hospitals.

Meanwhile, the actor is associated with the ‘Heal A Child’ Foundation that supports kids who have no financial support and can’t afford medical expenses.

Mahesh Babu, who adopted the Burripalem and Siddapuram villages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively, has been lending a helping hand with health and hygiene programs and has been responsible for creating social awareness in these villages through his Mahesh Babu Foundation.

Telangana HC slaps Rs 10 lakh cost on filmmaker seeking stay on ‘Jhund’

The Telangana High Court on Friday slapped a cost of Rs 10 lakh on Hyderabad-based filmmaker Nandi Chinni Kumar who had filed a petition seeking a stay on the release of Amitabh Bachchan-starrer “Jhund”.

The court directed Kumar to pay the amount to PM Covid-19 Relief Fund within a month. In the event of the petitioner failing to pay the amount, the district collector would recover the same under Revenue Recovery Act within 30 days and remit it to the PM Fund.

A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili, which had already declined to stall the release of the movie, asked counsel for the petitioner as to why he suppressed information pertaining to the case he had filed at a lower court on the same subject.

The court was told that a compromise had already arrived between the makers of the movie and Kumar. As part of this, Kumar was paid Rs 5 crore.

However, Kumar approached the high court, seeking a stay on the release of “Jhund”, claiming that the settlement was due to the wrong inducement.

“Jhund”, a biographical sports film based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO Slum Soccer’, was released in theaters on Friday.

Barse is the coach of Akhilesh Paul and Kumar claims that he bought exclusive rights in November 2017 to make a movie titled “Slum Soccer” on the life of Akhilesh Paul.

He said though director Nagraj Manjule and producers bought rights to make a movie on the life of Barse, “Jhund” also showcases Paul’s story in a major role, thus allegedly violating the copyright. Kumar had filed a suit in a city court in 2020, seeking a stay on the release of the movie.

Movie buffs slay goat to celebrate ‘Bheemla Nayak’ release, face PETA India ire

Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh) Even as Telugu film star Pawan Kalyan’s latest cinematic outing ‘Bheemla Nayak’ is setting the box-office on fire, some of his diehard fans are facing the heat from animal rights group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India.

After learning that a group of young men allegedly sacrificed a goat to celebrate the release of ‘Bheemla Nayak’, PETA India worked with senior police officials in Chittoor district to register a first information report (FIR).

The goat was sacrificed at CSN movie theatre, Pileru, Bodumalluvaripalle in Chittoor. The cruel incident caught on video, shows people posing for photos and videos while standing in front of the frightened goat. The video then shows the goat, fully conscious, being beheaded with a sword and the slaughter taking place in full public view. The video also shows a man collecting the blood of the sacrificed goat with his bare hands and smearing it on the movie poster.

The FIR has been registered under Section 6 of the Andhra Pradesh Animals and Birds Sacrifice Prohibition Act, 1950, Sections 34 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act, 1959, and Section 11(1)(a) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960.

“PETA India commends the Chittoor police for taking steps to send the message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated,” said PETA India emergency response team associate manager, Meet Ashar. “Just as human sacrifice is now treated as murder, at a time when India is embarking on space missions, the archaic practice of animal sacrifice must end. PETA India also recommends that these men undergo psychiatric evaluation and receive counseling, as abusing animals indicates deep mental disturbance.”

In its complaint, PETA India pointed out that Section 5(b) of the Andhra Pradesh Animals and Birds Sacrifices Prohibition Act, 1950, clearly states that no person shall knowingly allow any sacrifice to be performed at any place that is in their possession or under their control. Section 4 prohibits anyone from officiating, performing, serving, assisting, or participating in sacrificing an animal in any congregation. Section 6 prescribes the penalties, and Section 8 makes all offenses under the Act cognizable.

The Supreme Court has ruled that animals can be slaughtered only in officially licensed slaughterhouses and that municipal authorities must ensure compliance with this ruling. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughter House) Rules, 2001, and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, permit the slaughter of animals for food only in licensed slaughterhouses equipped with species-specific stunning equipment.

Gujarat, Kerala, Puducherry, and Rajasthan already have laws in place prohibiting the religious sacrifice of any animal in any temple or its precinct. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana prohibit it in any place of public religious worship or adoration or its precinct or in any congregation or procession connected with religious worship on a public street.

Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov talks from war frontline

Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov (aRhino’) has issued a powerful statement from the frontlines of the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to Variety, the statement read: “In 2014, I was unlawfully imprisoned in Russia and sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for fighting against Putin regime and annexation of Crimea. Back then, the whole film industry stood up to support me. And I am immensely grateful for it. Now I’m asking you to support my country,” Sentsov said.

“Exactly two weeks ago, my movie, which I shot after I was out, was released in Ukraine. For a week now, I have been standing in the trenches as a participant of the territorial defence of Kiev, which is a part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Life has changed in an instant with the fall of the first bomb on the territory of Ukraine. Everything we knew about Hitler’s invasion has now become real again.”

“My motherland is mercilessly shelled from the land, sea, and air. Russian bombs are falling on Ukrainian children. Millions are sitting in bomb shelters. Millions are suffering from cold and lacking food. My country is being ruined, but our spirit is strong. We are going to fight until our victory.”

“For this, we need your support. The support of intellectuals and artists who oppose Putin’s bloody regime. People who value human life more than anything. I request your support for the boycott of Russian cinematography in all dimensions, including film cooperation: co-production, distribution, and festivals, as requested by the Ukrainian Film Academy. Please sign the petition!”

“Stand with Ukraine! We will stop Putin together!” the statement said.

Sentsov has also shared a video shot earlier this week, the location of which cannot be revealed for security reasons.

Sunny Leone: I’m emotionally attached to ‘Anamika’

Actress and TV host Sunny Leone, who is coming up with her new web series ‘Anamika’ directed by Vikram Bhatt, says that the show presents “Sunny Leone 2.0” to the audience.

Even though she made her debut in Bollywood with the film ‘Jism 2’ and went on to appear in films like ‘Ek Paheli Leela’, ‘Mastizaade’, ‘One Night Stand’ according to Sunny, the new web series has given her the chance to prove her acting skill as well as tapping into her favorite genre of action-drama.

In conversation with an interview, Sunny shared, “This is a very special show for me and I am really emotionally attached to ‘Anamika’. As an audience, I love watching action-drama shows and this web series has given me a chance to do both. Even though personally I am not like Anamika at all, doing those action sequences was quite exciting. This show is like the 2.0 version of myself.”

While most of the time her screen presence and glamour has been celebrated, even in those TV shows that she has hosted including ‘MTV Splitsvilla’, working on a web series like ‘Anamika’ was a very different experience.

“One of the reasons why I got so excited about the show was Vikram sir. I am not a trained actress but Vikram sir has really nurtured me as an actress. Anamika is a character that sir has visualized and from body language, expression to how to create a character from script to screen, sir has taught me everything. Earlier I was little trained in action but during the workshop for this show, I learned how to imbibe things into my body language,” said Sunny.

She further added, “The fighting was the combination of different martial art forms, as well as street fights, karate, etc. How to mix these forms to build the body language of a character was a huge learning for me.”

The show ‘Anamika’, also featuring – Samir Soni, Sonnalli Seygall, Rahul Dev, Shehzad Shaikh, Ayaz Khan – releases on MX Player on March 10.
