Sunny Leone has joined hands with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to feed 10,000 migrant workers in the city.

“We are facing a crisis, but together with compassion and solidarity we will come out ahead. I’m delighted to join hands with PETA India again — this time to get protein-packed vegan meals to thousands in need,” Sunny said.

The meals consist of daal and rice or ‘khichdi’ and often fruit.

Sunny was named PETA India’s Person of the Year in 2016 and previously starred in the organisation’s campaigns in support of vegan fashion, vegetarian eating, and dog and cat adoption and sterilisation. PETA and Sunny will donate food through Uday Foundation.

Actress Elli AvrRam has won the Best Actress award for her role in the short film “With You” at the Stockholm City Film Festival.

The 23-minute short film is based on the socially relevant subject of mental health awareness, sexual abuse, and childhood trauma.

“I’m just so thrilled and grateful for this recognition. We all went in with our heart for this project, and to see it getting this response at such prestigious film festivals is truly heart-warming. I feel so happy for all of us, grateful to my director Peppe Segura, and especially for the fact that a story like this is being noticed and appreciated,” she says.

Talking about the process of shooting the film, she adds: “I flew down from Mumbai to Stockholm to shoot the film because I wanted to be part of such films that raise awareness about important issues. Everyone who worked on the film felt it’s important to bring in light, in the darkness, because that’s what we all need to be able to find the strength and to change things. It was emotionally tough to step into my character, Lilly, but I believe that’s what I also love, to get challenged, because it leads to growth as an actor.”

On May 3, Sonu thanked Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas for backing his appeal for free education to children of those who lost their lives to Covid.

Deepika Padukone tests Covid positive

Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has reportedly tested Covid positive.

While an official confirmation on behalf of the actress is awaited, the website of IIFA tweeted the health update on Tuesday. “#DeepikaPadukone has tested positive for Covid-19. Get well soon, Deepika!” said a tweet on @IIFA.

Confirming the news, entertainment industry tracker Ramesh Bala tweeted: “Actress @deepikapadukone tests positive for #Covid. Wishing her a speedy recovery.”

Deepika is currently in Bangalore with her family. Earlier on Tuesday, her father, badminton icon Prakash Padukone had to be admitted to hospital due to a high fever.

The actress’s mother Ujjala Padukone and younger sister Anisha have also tested also positive for Covid.

Deepika has several high-profile films lined up over the next few months. She will be seen opposite husband Ranveer Singh in “83”, which accounts for the saga of India’s first cricket World Cup win in 1983. While Ranveer plays the team’s captain Kapil Dev, Deepika essays Kapil’s wife Romi.

She also stars in a yet-to-be-titled film with Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas, and in Shakun Batra’s untitled next with Ananya Panday and Siddhant Chaturvedi.

Deepika will also team up with Big B in “The Intern”, while “Fighter” casts her opposite Hrithik Roshan. According to reports, she will also be seen in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “Pathan”.

The actress adds that times are tough and one must try to do as much as one can to help each other.

“It’s sad that many people are losing their lives to the virus. I can relate to the pain of their families. But it’s time to stay strong and united. I feel at this time, performing and spending a big amount on rituals is not important. One needs to use the money to save someone’s life. People planning a wedding should not spend a lot on outfits, gold, or parties. They can spend the money on helping someone,” she says.
