Soundarya Sharma: Challenging to play de-glam role at start of career

Actress Soundarya Sharma plays a girl next door on season two of the web series “Raktanchal”, and says it is a challenge to essay such a de-glamorized role at the start of her career.

Based on true events, the story casts her as a simple homemaker who weaves her way into the world of politics because of the circumstances she had to face to protect her family.

“I play the character of Rolly Rai. This is a simple girl next door. It’s set in the 1980s. Season one was an introduction and in season two, I take over. I play the female protagonist,” she declares.

“This is about how this simple girl weaves her path into the world of politics to save her family and loved ones from getting completely destroyed. This is her journey and how she powers herself and her loved ones. She has to step into dirty politics to protect her family,” Soundarya added.

About the show, she added: “It has an old charm and it takes a hard line. It’s very challenging to play de-glamorous at the beginning of my career. I sat with the makers to design this look so that it looks very unconventional and not how we have seen this young 22-23-year-old girl. It’s inspired by true events so we can’t play around too much with the character,” she said.

“Since it’s set in purvanchal so it has got that UP touch to it,” she summed up.

Actress Kangana Ranaut on Monday urged people to plant more trees even as the demand for oxygen goes up in the country with rising Covid-19 cases. She says people using oxygen should pledge to work on improving air quality.

“Everybody is building more and more oxygen plants, getting tons and tons of oxygen cylinders, how are we compensating for all the oxygen that we are forcefully drawing from the environment? It seems we learned nothing from our mistakes and catastrophes they cause #PlantTrees’,” Kangana wrote on Twitter.

She added: “Along with announcing more and more oxygen for humans, governments must announce relief for nature also, people who are using this oxygen should also pledge to work on improving the air quality, for how long we are going to be miserable pests only taking never giving back to nature?”

She said that if life forms start disappearing from the earth’s surface it would affect the fertility of the soil.

“Remember any other life if it disappears from earth even microbes or insects it will affect the fertility of the soil and Mother Earth’s health, she will miss them but if humans disappear Earth will only and only flourish, if you aren’t her lover or child, you are just unnecessary #PlantTrees,” Kangana said.

Actress Shweta Tripathi encourages sustainable fashion for the sake of the environment.

“I am a big advocate of sustainable fashion and I think if one is conscious of the environment, they’d always choose ethical clothing over anything else. Right from thrift stores to second-hand shopping, I’d like to encourage people to indulge in these practices and make a difference,” Shweta said.

The actress treats her clothes with a lot of love and cares to ensure they are not torn or damaged.

“The problem is that everyone thinks someone else will save the world. It’s time to be that someone. If we all do our little bit, the world will be in a better place. I’d also like to tell people that even when it comes to sourcing for shoots, we try our best to cut down on new things,” she added.

In the upcoming web series, the thriller “Escaype Live”, Shweta wears her own footwear.

“For my character in Escape Live, I’m wearing my own footwear as opposed to buying new ones because if there’s something that already fits, I think it’s really unnecessary to purchase new ones,” she said.
