Arjun Kapoor: Did ‘Sardar Ka Grandson’ for my grandparents

Arjun Kapoor says he signed “Sardar Ka Grandson” for his grandparents. He adds that a story can be told if one relates to it — not necessarily the character but the overall emotions of the story.

“Sardar Ka Grandson” revolves around a grandmother’s last wish and also features Neena Gupta, Rakulpreet Singh, Kanlwajit Singh, John Abraham, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Kumud Mishra.

“My Nani (maternal grandmother) was a ferocious woman — both my grandmothers. Till the day she (Nani) died she was in the hospital suffering from cancer and she was still talking to me. She handled my finances till the day she passed away because I lost my mother before that. So, I was close to my Nani. She was a producer herself,” Arjun told IANS.

He drew a parallel between the character of Sardar, played by Neena Gupta, in the film and his maternal grandmother. “Sardar, this character, I think the way she behaves is very similar to my Nani.”

Arjun is “very close” to his grandparents.

“I have been that grandchild who lived in a joint family. The reason behind doing this film was when I went to meet my dad (recently), I couldn’t eat my food. I had to eat what she made. I chose this film because of this reason,” he said.

Arjun added: “You can only tell a story if you relate to it. You don’t only have to relate to the character, but you relate to the overall emotions of the story.”

The film is not an “instant gratification film”, Arjun stressed.

“It is a film that needs to be felt. I did ‘Ki & Ka’ for my mum and this movie for my grandparents very clearly. This is a far more intimate film. It is coming at a time in which you need to value your near and dear ones.”

The film is scheduled to release on May 18 on Netflix.

Rasika Dugal on revisiting a role in new season: It’s like meeting an old friend

Rasika Dugal feels reprising a role in the second season of a web series is like meeting an old friend again. The actress reprises her role of Dr. Meera in the second season of the revenge drama web series “Out Of Love”.

“It’s interesting to revisit a character in a subsequent season. Initially, I used to be nervous because I wasn’t used to portraying a character after everybody had watched it and given their opinion. But I’ve begun to enjoy it now. It’s like meeting an old friend again because you understand who they are and how they are wired but you know that they have also changed since the last time you met them,” Rasika said.

On the transformation her character Dr. Meera goes through in season two, the actress added: “Meera at the end of season one and beginning of season two is almost like two different people. At the end of season one, she was struggling to come to terms with the collapse of her seemingly perfect life. At the beginning of season two, we see that she has moved on, rebuilt her life, and is living with a sense of contentment.”

Directed by Oni Sen, the second season of “Out Of Love” promises a fast-paced and dark storyline where Purab Kohli and Rasika will reprise their roles as the estranged couple Akarsh and Meera.

The series, produced by BBC Studios India, has been shot across picturesque locales in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.

The second season will stream from April 30 on Disney+ Hotstar VIP and Disney+ Hotstar Premium.

Allu Arjun doesn’t tweet about something unless he really likes it: Allu Sirish

Actor Allu Sirish says it was a special moment when his elder brother, Telugu star Allu Arjun, praised him on social media for his work in his debut Hindi music video “Vilayati sharaab”. Sirish cherishes his brother’s compliment all the more because Arjun is known to be a man of few words.

“His encouragement means the most to me because he is a man of few words. He is not too verbal about appreciation. His praises don’t come a lot. So, even the smallest thing like an Instagram story coming from him is a big deal for me because I know for a fact that unless he really likes something, he doesn’t praise it on social media,” Sirish tells IANS.

He adds: “For a lot of my movies also he has never tweeted the first look or trailer unless he is very impressed. Coming from him is a real endorsement of sorts for me.”

A few days back, Arjun has tweeted: “BIG Congratulations to @allusirish on hitting 100M Super Proud! & Congratulations to @darshanravaldz @neetimohan18 @heli_daruwala the entire team of #vilayatisharaab.”

Sirish, who is known for his work in Telugu films such as “Kotha Janta”, “Srirasthu Subamastu” and “Okka Kshanam”, recalls Arjun’s reaction when he saw the video of “Vilayati sharaab” for the first time.

“He was happy. He said that it’s good that I am trying new things and that not many people would want to venture out through a music video. He appreciated the move of doing something. He also liked the video,” says Sirish.

The song is composed by Lijo George and DJ Chetas and penned by Kumaar. The video features Sirish with TV actress Heli Daruwala.

Sirish claims he was surprised by the huge response the song has garnered and is now encouraged to do more Hindi projects.

“This is like a huge push to me. I am open to exploring more stuff in Hindi provided somebody gives me the right opportunity. If something interesting comes along on these lines I would surely take it up,” says the actor.

He signs off saying: “Now that I have done it in Hindi, I want to do a music video in Telugu or Tamil also, they being my home industries. I am open, if something interesting comes by, I will pick it up.”

Sandeepa Dhar plays a dancer in upcoming web-series

Sandeepa Dhar plays a dancer in her upcoming, yet-untitled web series. She says the best part about the show is it gave her a chance to do something she loves the most — dance.

While Sandeepa essays Maina, a headstrong and ambitious dancer, the series also features Vikram Singh Chauhan.

“Maina is an independent and ambitious character who drives the narrative of the show in a contemporary modern story, which attracted me the most. She is a sweet and sour girl on the path of fulfilling her dreams and aspirations which I believe a majority of the audience will connect with. The best part about this series that got me excited was that I did what I loved the most — danced my way through the role and absolutely enjoyed playing this quirky yet confident character,” said Sandeepa.

The romantic track with Vikram plays an important part in the show, she says.

“I was glad Vikram and I hit it off in the first meeting itself as that helped in bringing the chemistry alive between the two characters,” she added.

The yet-untitled show will air on Disney+ Hotstar.

Juhi Parmar’s protagonist Renuka to die in ‘Hamariwali Good News’

Fans of the show “Hamariwali Good News” are in for a shock. Renuka, played by the show’s lead actress Juhi Parmar, will die in an upcoming episode.

In the current track, Renuka tries to save her daughter-in-law Navya (Shristi Jain) and grandchild. However, in a shocking turn of events, as Navya and the child escape from the mill where they are being held captive, Renuka is nowhere to be seen. Then, a sudden explosion in the mill kills Renuka.

“I have lived the life of Renuka for the past six months and it’s been a character that grew very close to my heart. It was a creative call, and I am in total agreement with what is best for the show. I understand the maker’s decision to bring a new twist in the show,” said Juhi.

“In fact, since the start of ‘Hamariwali Good News’, the message was clear — saas begin bahu ki aas (the mother-in-law will bestow hope on the daughter-in-law) and this sequence take the thought further as Renuka gives up her life trying to save Navya and her own child. Clearly, it shows how Renuka was such an amazing person and idealistic for every Saas and Bahu out there,” she added.

The actor, however, refrains from giving details on what happens next.

“Let’s see what the makers have in store for the viewers, especially about how Mukund (Renuka’s son) copes up with everything, as he was deeply, madly in love with Renuka. What the future holds for Mukund with Renuka gone, only time will tell. But I hope our fans continue to shower love and praise on the show like they have been doing until now, ” she summed up.

“Hamariwali Good News” airs on Zee TV.
