Priya Banerjee: OTT has reduced TV viewership

With fresh plots and storylines coming up on OTT platforms, actress Priya Banerjee says that people are increasingly preferring shows on digital platforms than on television. The actor, who is currently part of the web series “Bekaaboo 2”, says that the accessibility of OTT sets it apart, besides content.

“I feel OTT has definitely reduced TV viewership because you can watch anything and everything at any given time on your favorite platforms. Having said that, I am also aware that TV has a much bigger reach when it comes to the masses and that can never change,” she told IANS.

Priya added that actors on OTT can also become stars. At the end of the day, it is your work that speaks.

“For me, it’s not just about social media followers. It’s about the good work we get to do as actors, be it on OTT or film. I believe I will do good work and the followers will follow,” she said.

She added: “It’s about the script nowadays. If people love your show or your movie, it doesn’t matter what the platform is, your work will always be appreciated.”

Sayantani Ghosh: Nothing I cannot do that a man does

For actress Sayantani Ghosh, women’s empowerment means a healthy co-existence because women today are no way less than men.

“To me, women’s empowerment is more about equality and coexistence. I believe there is nothing I cannot do that a man does. Women’s Day is special as it celebrates the pure essence of womanhood, and we should celebrate it. I don’t believe in celebrating the importance of a girl for a single day but respecting and loving them all 365 days of a year,” says the actress, currently seen on the show, Tera Yaar Hoon Main.

Her mother is her biggest inspiration. “The special woman of my life is my mother for all the obvious reasons because she has always been my best friend and shopping, partner. Whenever I see the journey of my life, I feel that a sense of independence is a huge part of me, and my mother is the one who has instilled the same in me. I am short of words when I have to explain what my mother means to me and her importance in my life,” she says.

Sayantani adds that she hopes that people will respect and love the girl child more and help the world become a better place for women.

“The only message I would like to convey for everyone is to pay due to the importance to celebrate, educating, loving and respecting the girl child. I feel that we all should celebrate Durga and Kaali in every girl — be it mother, sister, or a friend and hope for a better society to live for the whole year and not specifically a single day of the year,” she says.

Actress Larissa Bonesi will be seen in the upcoming web-series “Penthouse” by Abbas-Mustan. She says she cannot put into words how incredible the directors are.

The series also stars Bobby Deol and Arjun Rampal, along with Mouni Roy, Pranati Rai Prakash, and Sharman Joshi.

“It was amazing to watch, learn and act with every single one of them. I am — let’s say — new, so for me being able to act beside them was a privilege. Stillness and passion are what I learned during this journey,” she said.

“Coming to the directors, they are the sweetest and most amazing professionals I’ve worked with so far! I will always cherish every single moment on the set of ‘Penthouse’,” the actress added.

Janhvi Kapoor tried multiple look tests for ‘Roohi’

Actress Janhvi Kapoor plays a character that is possessed by a ghost in the upcoming film “Roohi”, and she had to undergo “multiple look tests” to perfect her appearance for the role.

Director Hardik Mehta says she adapted to the role well. “We did multiple look tests to arrive at a combination of prosthetics and VFX to create the look for Janhvi. What really surprised me was the switch that Janhvi would make as soon as prosthetics would come into play, and her whole body language and voice would change to that of her witch character,” he says.

In fact, sources from the sets say that Janhvi tried out 10 different options before the final one was decided.

Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, the horror-comedy also stars Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma. The film will hit the screens on March 11.

Jasmin Bhasin: Collaborating with Aly is special

“Bigg Boss 14” couple Jasmin Bhasin and Aly Goni co-star in the music video of the new song, “Tera Suit”. This is Jasmin’s first music video, and that too with Aly, and the actress says it was indeed a special experience.

“Anything I collaborate with Aly, it is very special. After ‘Bigg Boss’, I have been in an extremely positive and happy phase. I wanted to reflect that happiness on screen. Our fans have already given us immense love and now we want to give back to them through this music video. It is a party song; it’s happy, colorful, and exciting. I have a feeling people will play the song very often during Holi,” Jasmin tells IANS.

The song has been composed and sung by Tony Kakkar, and Jasmin is all praise for him.

“Shooting with Tony was also great fun, as Aly and I are funny and positive in nature, so altogether it was great fun. With Aly, this was the first time we have worked together. I used to wonder earlier what kind of co-star Aly would be but after working with him I can clearly say he is amazing, (a co-star) cannot get better than him,” she says.

“After reality shows, this is our first collaboration and Jasmin’s first music video with me. I am very happy. I have always loved Tony bhai’s songs and ‘Tera Suit’ is a party anthem. Our fans wanted to see us together post ‘Bigg Boss’, and we just hope they love the song.”

Taapsee recalls working with ‘mad man’ Sujoy Ghosh

The Taapsee Pannu-starrer Badla released two years ago on this day. The actress recalls working with filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, whom she lovingly called a mad man.

Taapsee posted a picture posing with Sujoy on Instagram. Alongside the image, she wrote: “Two years since I last spent hours with this mad man laughing on each other’s guts to attempt ‘Badla’. While I miss his weirdness it’s hard to make this lazy ass sit n write something we can create on-screen again! Only so we can get more such embarrassing pictures clicked 🙂 P.S- he needs a new wardrobe so please give him some work dear producers.”

Devoleena Bhattacharjee: Grew up in a family of women with no men

Actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee looks back at her challenging childhood after her father passed away. On International Women’s Day on Monday, she says that the circumstance meant she grew up in a family of strong women.

“I lost my father at an early age and society treated my family not very well, due to the lack of a father figure at my home. It was my mother and her mom who faced society. They are the beautiful women in my life who taught me to choose to challenge and live. I remember how my mother would go to work even when she was ill. She wanted to give us all that a father does for his kids. I have seen her fight for us. She was both a mother and a father for us,” recalls Devoleena.

The “Saath Nibhana Saathiya” actress feels women are the most important and beautiful part of society.

“I feel the central role of women in society has ensured stability, progress, and long-term development. I come from Assam, and there I have seen how labor done by men is almost equal to women. Like in a tea garden, women play a major role — from taking care of tea plants to plucking tea leaves,” she said.

“I feel, my two shows — “Saathiya” and “Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto” — set a good example that women can do everything and are an important part of society. They are in no way less (than men). I’m lucky to be part of such shows,” she said, adding that she wished to act in a historical woman’s biography someday.

Sona Mohapatra slams troll who call her and Taapsee Pannu ‘militant feminists’

Singer Sona Mohapatra on Monday slammed a troll who called her and Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu militant feminists and said they were always at war with men.

Earlier in the day, a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said news reports and quotes by activists have taken “out of context” a query recently posed by the apex court to a rape accused “on marrying the victim” while emphasizing that it always holds women with highest regard and respect. Taapsee and Sona had heavily criticized the Court’s call.

“Please note all the militant feminists @taapsee @sonamohapatra who are always at war with men. ‘Will you marry her’ remark taken out of context to tarnish the image of Supreme Court, says CJI Bobde,” a troll tweeted.

Responding to the tweet, Sona wrote: “That’s a load of gobbledygook. There is no context in which this ‘question’ is justified. None whatsoever. Nothing of the ‘clarification’ makes sense either. Why is ‘marriage’ any kind of solution in this situation, it isn’t & if u don’t get this, you are the moron.”

Last week, during the bail hearing of the 23-year-old man accused of raping the minor, the bench had asked the accused: “Will you marry her?”

“Oh! My bad. Yes, that was indeed the question the SC judge asked yesterday. No matter what the context & BG was, the question & its implications are all kinds of wrong & disgusting,” Sona had tweeted a few days ago reacting to the same.

“Did someone ask the girl this question? If she wants to marry her rapist !!!??? Is that a question !!!??? This is the solution or a punishment? Plain simple DISGUST!” Taapsee had tweeted reacting to the news.

Twitterati not surprisingly had a field day on Monday, after the much-publicised interview of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with Oprah Winfrey, with jokes and memes trending all through the day.

In the interview, Meghan and Harry have claimed they endured many ordeals while trying to live as a part of the Royal family after their marriage in 2018, and their decision to step down as members of the Royal family.

Closer to home, in India as well, the interview saw many Indian users poke fun at the subconscious racism and misogyny present in the UK.
