Kriti Sanon gets nostalgic as ‘Luka Chuppi’ turns 2

Actress Kriti Sanon played the character of a journalist in the social comedy “Luka Chuppi”, which released two years ago on this day. Looking back at the film, Kriti says she connected with her character Rashmi Trivedi on a personal level.

“Rashmi was a great blend of modern thinking and rooted core, much like me. She was spunky, independent, impulsive, believed in taking her own life decisions, and still had an emotional core. I had a lot of fun playing her and was overwhelmed with the love that she got,” Kriti said.

The actress is right now busy shooting for her upcoming horror-comedy, “Bhediya”, with Varun Dhawan. She also has Vikas Bahl’s “Ganapath” opposite Tiger Shroff and Laxman Utekar’s “Mimi” in her kitty, besides Akshay Kumar-starrer “Bachchan Pandey”.

“I got to meet and work with a creative mind like Sushant Singh Rajput due to the film. I had the best time exchanging notes with him,” she added.

About working in the film, she said: “Sonchiriya’ gave me the chance to work with a brilliant cast and people I admired deeply. It’s an experience I’ll deeply cherish more because of the collaboration I had with Sushant and Khushiya, the little girl who played Sonchiriya. Khushiya has become a part of my life forever.”

Bhumi said that Sonchiriya will always be a special film in her filmography because it taught her a valuable lesson.

“It told me to dream, to explore, and to take bigger risks as an artist with every film. (Director) Abhishek Chaubey opened my eyes to what I could achieve if I trusted myself and pushed myself to the edge of the cliff. I thank him for his faith in me as a performer.”

She added: “A film like Sonchiriya is rare, it comes maybe once in a lifetime for an artist and I’m fortunate that I got to do this project. The ceremony was held virtually and the live audience consisted of frontline workers and first responders of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned to hosting duties this year, but they were in New York and Los Angeles respectively, marking the first time the Golden Globes have been bicoastal.

The best drama film went to “Nomadland ” starring Frances McDormand as a homeless woman traveling through the American West.

“Schitt’s Creek” was named Best Comedy series.  Actress Catherine O’Hara, who plays the role of Moira Rose in the show, was feted with best comedy actress honor.

The best director award went to Chloe Zhao, who became the second female winner of the category in Globes history, after Barbara Streisand in 1983, reports bbc.com.

Zhao said: “Thank you to everyone who made it possible to do what I love. I fell in love with making movies and telling stories because it gave us a chance to laugh and cry together, to learn from each other, and to have more compassion for each other.”

The Sacha Baron Cohen-starrer “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”, the sequel to 2006’s hugely successful “Borat”, was named best musical or comedy film.

“Thank you to the all-white Hollywood Foreign Press,” said Sacha Baron Cohen as he accepted the prize, referring to the recent revelation that the organization behind the Globes currently has no black members.

The actor joked about the awards body as he was named best actor in a comedy or musical for the same film.

“Wait, Donald Trump is contesting the result. He’s claiming that a lot of dead people voted, which is a very rude thing to say about the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association),” he quipped.

Other winners included Rosamund Pike, who was named best actress in a musical or comedy film for “I Care A Lot”. The best supporting actor went to Daniel Kaluuya for his performance in “Judas And the Black Messiah”.

The film cast Kaluuya essayed the role of US activist Fred Hampton, chairman of the Black Panther Party who was assassinated at the age of 21 in 1969.

The actor said that he hopes generations after this would see how Hampton fought.

“I hope generations after this can see how brilliantly he fought, he spoke, and he loved. He taught me about myself, made me grow as a man, and I appreciate that with all my heart,” Kaluuya said as he accepted his prize.

A “shocked” John Boyega was named best supporting actor in a limited series for his role in “Small Axe”.

“I’m so shocked. I’ve got trackie bottoms on and I’m comfortable but this is exciting,” Boyega quipped.

“The Crown” won four honors including the best drama series.

Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin both won for their performances as Prince Charles and Princess Diana respectively.

Corrin said: “Most of all, thank you so much to (Princess) Diana, you have taught me compassion and empathy beyond any measure I could ever imagine.”

O’Connor added: “I’m very lucky to be able to work in this period, and there are so many people who are unable to work, who are alone and isolated, and I hope we can all collectively put mental health at the forefront of our minds.”

Actress Gillian Anderson was named in the best supporting category in the series for her portrayal of former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Late star Chadwick Boseman was posthumously named best actor in a drama film for his performance in “Ma Rainy’s Black Bottom”.

Actress-singer Andra Day won in the best actress in a motion picture (drama) category for her performance in the OTT film “The United States vs. Billie Holiday”. The day is only the second Black woman to win at the Globes after Whoopi Goldberg, who won 35 years ago for ‘The Color Purple”, according to Variety.

“The Queen’s Gambit” was named best-limited series and its star Anya Taylor-Joy, was named best actress in a limited series.

Other winners included Mark Ruffalo for best actor in a limited series, and Pixar’s “Soul”, which won best-animated film.

Aaron Sorkin paid tribute to the three women who were nominated for best director as he accepted the best screenplay for “The Trial of the Chicago 7”.

“You are the reason my college-age daughter wants to be a filmmaker, and I’m never going to forgive you for that,” he said.

The nominees and winners were voted for by the 87 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), a group of international journalists based in California.

According to an investigation, the HFPA had no black members, representatives from the organization said during the ceremony, adding that they planned to address the issue.

Veteran actress and activist Jane Fonda was feted with the Cecil B DeMille Award for lifetime achievement and used her acceptance speech to call for greater diversity in the industry.

She talked about the importance of storytelling, saying powerful stories can “change our hearts and our minds”.

Adah Sharma: Feel more comfortable around animals than humans

Actress Adah Sharma says she is more comfortable around animals than humans. Animals, she adds, are uncomplicated and easy to interact with.

“I’ve always felt more comfortable around animals than humans. I’m the most uncomfortable in social places like parties with people I don’t know. But put me in a jungle with animals and I feel at home! Animals are uncomplicated, easy to interact with. They live in the moment,” Adah told IANS.

The actress recently rescued an injured bird while shooting and named it Twitter! The bird fell from a tree in a jungle close to Hyderabad where she was shooting for an upcoming project.

“I asked my audience on Instagram what they would like to call the bird. Twitter was one of the answers. Since I like tweeting and making bird sounds I thought Twitter would be a nice name!” she explained the name.

Adah is also worried about the issue of birds dying due to mobile network, air pollution and other man-made problems which are damaging our environment. The actress shared: “Birds becoming extinct is sad. They are a part of mother nature and she deals with humans for pollution and other issues in her own tough ways.”

The actress recently featured in the short film “Chuha Billi”, co-starring Anupriya Goenka. She recently said she has signed five new Telugu films.
