Kriti Sanon: You can’t be cautious and still move ahead in career

Actress Kriti Sanon has a packed year ahead, with five films scheduled to release. Her projects are at different stages of production, boast of either big production houses or new genres or high expectations from fans owing to commercial value.

Over the next few months, she will be seen in “Bachchan Pandey”, “Mimi”, “Adipurush”, “Bhediya” and “Janpath”. The varied assortment, you would think, would weigh her down with pressure. The actress has no time for pressure, or to be scared.

“I don’t think you can be scared and cautious and still move ahead in your career. Fear pulls you back. Once I know why I am doing a project, there is no fear. You like the film, the storyline, the scene. You know you are doing something slightly different. Ok, it can be experimental but that’s your reason for doing it then,” Kriti told IANS.

“I believe in all the films I am doing right now. Beyond that, my job is to do my part really well and work hard for it. The rest is not really in my hands. I don’t want to take the pressure of ‘oh what if this goes wrong?’ I would rather think.’ what if all of them go right!'” shared the actress, who had made her Bollywood debut with the 2014 film “Heropanti”.

Over the past seven-odd years, Kriti has been noticed for her roles, particularly “Dilwale”, “Raabta”, Bareilly Ki Barfi”, “Luka Chuppi”, and “Panipat”.

Her upcoming films are a mixed bag, too. “Mimi”, a heroine-centric film about surrogacy, has particularly drawn interest. While she wants to do more such films, she would prefer to balance it with every other kind of film. So, “Bachchan Pandey” is a commercial entertainer co-starring Akshay Kumar. “Bhediya” takes her to the zone of supernatural horror with Varun Dhawan. In “Ganpath”, co-starring Tiger Shroff she engages in heavy-duty action. “Hum Do Hamare Do” co-stars Rajkummar Rao and is a social comedy-drama. “Adipurush is a historical action drama with Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan.

“Would I love to do more such films (as ‘Mimi’)? Yes, I would. But would I be looking for only this? No. I feel for me it’s not only about what I am doing, it is about a project that really excites you. I feel like you have to really go beyond how many scenes I have and go more into how good the character is. Is it doing something to the film and I feel like as an actor, I want to explore more and do all kinds of films. I want to do smaller roles, which are very impactful as characters,” said the actress.

However, Kriti does specify that “if it’s just two scenes and two songs and if those are cut out from the film and the story remains the same, then that’s not exciting. Your character is pivotal. As an actor, I am very greedy and I know that I would always balance it out. So, I want to do everything”.

Aditi Rao Hydari: Lockdown made us understand how important OTT platforms are

She made her digital debut with the Malayalam romantic drama Sufiyum Sujatayum last year and was later seen in the webspace in the Nani-starrer Telugu action flick V. Actress Aditi Rao Hydari is now gearing up for her third film on OTT, the Bollywood release The Girl On The Train starring Parineeti Chopra.

Aditi insists it is not the platform of release that counts, though being a full-on romantic she loves the experience of going to theatres.

“My OTT experience has actually been in 2020 when two films of mine released on OTT platforms. It started off with me in tears and then I realized it was incredible and how with that one click in one second everyone is watching your film!” Aditi told IANS.

“People really needed stories and content. I am a full romantic. I love the theatre. We have all grown up going to the theatre. We Look forward to going to the theatre and it is that whole thing that someone is making out time to go to the theatre. There is another thrill of watching a film larger than life,” she added.

She credits lockdown for OTT platforms becoming important.

“I think lockdown has really made us understand how important these OTT platforms are. They have been our best friends during the lockdown. Today, I can confidently say it is really not about the platform on which your film releases,” she said.

It’s not the platform but other things that are important for a film.

“It is more about the story. The time you spend making that film. The content, the team, the director — just the whole journey you grow through — is so much more important. Every film has its own destiny. Some films are made for the theatre and some for OTT platforms. Both are valid and will always be very important to us,” she said.

Prachi Desai plays a cop in new murder mystery

Bollywood actress Prachi Desai will be seen playing a police officer for the first time in her upcoming film, Silence Can You Hear It. She describes the character as strong and feisty.

“Where there’s a murder, there’s an investigating officer and that’s what I play in this splendid murder mystery. Inspector Sanjana is a character that’s not one to back down easily. She is strong, feisty and she is all about dedication,” Prachi said.

“Although she’s young, she’s very professional and she looks up to Manoj Bajpayee’s character, ACP Avinash Verma, because of his ferociousness and dedication towards the case. She aspires to be like him one day. The audience has never seen me play such a role before and I’m excited to see their reactions to it in the film,” she added.

The film also features Arjun Mathur and Sahil Vaid and is slated to release in March 2021 on Zee5. The film tells the story of the mysterious disappearance of a woman.

Rumana Molla: These days everything revolves around social media for an actor

Actress Rumana Molla recently appeared in the web film Bawri Chhori. She agrees with the growing opinion that, more than their craft, an actor gains popularity for their presence on social media these days.

“I just realized that when it comes to the introduction of an actor to casting directors or even gaining visibility, everything is designed through social media. People will check your number of followers on social media and the kind of content you are posting there. That somehow has become a reflection of who you are or the way you want to be taken by the audience as an actor or a celebrity,” Rumana told IANS.

“It is their choice but I believe that for an actor, working on craft is way more important. I have been doing theatre, training myself in acting, attending workshops because learning the craft helps to improve the art. There are social media stars who are becoming actors and that is great. They surely have huge followers and when they become part of the project, they ensure a certain number of the potential audience, but that is not how I look at it,” she added.

Rumana is known for playing Ruchi in the film Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. “When I did ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’, I knew I was doing it for experience and exposure, so once the film released I would get work. After I worked in the film ‘Irada’ in which I shared a scene with an iconic actor like Naseeruddin Shah, although I got positive messages from people I did not get work. Yes, I was disappointed. I also realized my shortcoming is I really do not know how to approach people for work. So, that is one of my drawbacks in terms of being visible at the right place the right time,” said the actress, who recently appeared in the web series “Dev DD”.
