Samantha joins ‘Arrangements of Love’ cast

South star Samantha Ruth Prabhu has boarded the cast of feature film ‘Arrangements of Love’.

The film is to be directed by BAFTA-winning Welsh director Philip John, whose credits include ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘The Good Karma Hospital’, reports variety.com.

The film is produced by Sunitha Tati’s Indian outfit Guru Films, whose ;Oh! Baby’, the 2019 Telugu-language adaptation of 2014 Korean film ‘Miss Granny’, was a commercial success. ‘Oh! Baby’ starred Samantha.

Active in both the Telugu and Telugu language industries, Samantha’s credits include S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Eega’, ‘Super Deluxe’, ‘Janatha Garage’ and ‘Mersala’.

Samir Sarkar, of Singapore’s Magic Hour Films, has joined the project as executive producer.

Sarkar previously produced Rotterdam winner ‘Nasir’, ‘Jonaki’ and Kolkata winner ‘The False Eye’.

‘Arrangements of Love’ is an adaptation of the bestselling 2004 novel of the same title by Indian author Timeri N. Murari by John and British Sri Lankan actor Nimmi Harasgama, who played the female lead in Deepa Mehta’s ‘Funny Boy’ and is a series regular on ‘The Good Karma Hospital’.

It follows a Welsh-Indian man on his quest to find his estranged father with an impromptu visit to his homeland.

Samantha plays a strong minded and funny force of nature 27-year-old, who runs her own detective agency and becomes part of the search.

She is a progressive bisexual Tamil woman, with ultra-traditional parents, who want her to have an arranged marriage. As much as she wants to please her parents she also wants to be able to make her own life choices.

“A whole new world opens up for me today as I start my journey with ‘Arrangements of Love,’ which has such an endearing and personal story,” Samantha told Variety.

“I am excited to work with Philip John, whose projects I have closely followed for many years, being a big fan of ‘Downton Abbey.’ I am looking forward to collaborating with Sunitha once again and I hope for only more success than we previously had with ‘Oh! Baby’. My role is a complex character and it will be both a challenge and an opportunity for me to play it. I cannot wait to get on set.”

“Having Samantha on board is indeed serendipitous. I have worked with her before and must say that she always brings her curiosity and talent to the project,” Tati told Variety.

“I can already visualize the life that she will breathe into the character. It is a pleasure to work with her again as we explore the international waters together.”

The film is expected to commence shooting in August, 2022.

With Kamal Haasan in hospital, who will host ‘Bigg Boss Tamil’ this week?

With actor Kamal Haasan unavailable to host ‘Bigg Boss Tamil 5’ for at least two weeks due to his treatment for Covid-19, the question now is who will anchor the weekend episodes of the popular reality show.

There are unconfirmed reports that Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruti Haasan has been approached in this regard and that she may anchor the show until her father is back.

Rumours are also rife that actress Ramya Krishnan and Vijay Sethupathi have also been approached and that one of the three actors may end up stepping into Kamal’s shoes for a week or two.

However, Star Vijay, the television channel on which the reality show is aired, has so far chosen to keep the cards close to their chest.

When IANS got in touch with the channel, it said it couldn’t comment on the issue at the moment and was neither willing to acknowledge or deny the rumours.

‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’: Salman Khan recalls how he went bald for ‘Tere Naam’

Superstar Salman Khan revealed on the show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ how everyone had told him not to do the film ‘Tere Naam’, but he still went on to do it as he also opened up about shaving his head for the 2003 movie.

Salman said: “Not many people know but there’s a very interesting story behind my look in ‘Tere Naam’. I was actually shooting for another film when the producer of ‘Tere Naam’ and a very dear friend of mine Sunil Manchanda came up to me and said that I’ll have to go bald to get into my character. I was not really sure because I was already doing a film at that time and I still remember I was down with fever one day, and the director of the other film was pestering me to attend the shoot.”

Contestant Neelanjana’s performance to the title track of ‘Tere Naam’ made Salman nostalgic. He recalled how he shaved his head to get into the skin of his character.

“I impulsively went to the washroom and shaved my hair out of irritation. The next day, I called up Sunil ji and said that I had shaved my hair and am willing to sign up for ‘Tere Naam’. Everyone was actually against me doing this film, but for some reason, I wanted to do it, and irrespective of everyone’s disagreement I went on to take up the role of ‘Radhe Mohan’,” he added.

The actor also mentioned that Himesh Reshammiya gave him 13 songs for the film, but he couldn’t take all of them.

Salman said: “I remember Himesh and I were in Galaxy discussing the film and when he heard the whole plot, he immediately came up with a song. That was the ‘Tere Naam’ title track, and I locked it immediately. You won’t believe it, he instantly gave me four or five songs on the spot, and we couldn’t reject any of them, they were so good.”

“This guy literally came up with 13 songs, none of which could be rejected. But of course, we had to select only seven because the film demanded only that much. The songs were so relatable that we wouldn’t even hear it till the end and lock it just by hearing the first ‘mukhra’. I truly believe the kind of depth this story had, only Himesh’s songs could do justice to the narrative,” he concluded.

‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ airs on Zee TV.
