Packed December for Telugu cinelovers with ‘Pushpa’, ‘Ghani’, ‘Akhanda’

The month of December is normally not considered a reliable timeline for movie releases in Telugu.

From the traders’ point of view, most of the people around the world have their vacations planned during December, which has an impact on other entertainment sources like cinema.

But, it seems like the times have changed. With the adverse effects of the pandemic, all the shootings and movie releases have muddled up. So December becomes a month with fully packed releases in Tollywood. While pan-Indian movies like ‘Pushpa’ and ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ are gearing up for December releases, ‘Ghani’ and ‘Akhanda’ are set to see their releases as well.

‘Pushpa’ is directed by Sukumar and stars Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. The movie is based on the real-life incidents of red sandal wood smugglers in Andhra Pradesh. This crime thriller is slated for its huge release on December 17.

Nani, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian, and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles, the movie ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ has grabbed the attention of all. Billed to be an action thriller, the movie is slated for a grand release on December 24.

Titled ‘Ghani’, the sports drama is to unleash the beast mode of Varun Tej. The movie is slated for its release on December 24. There are talks going on that the release date would be pushed to December 31. But there is no official confirmation yet.

On the other hand, Balakrishna’s upcoming commercial entertainer ‘Akhanda’ is gearing up for its release on December 2. With multiple releases ahead, Tollywood is to cater entertainment with these multi-genre movies.

Tollywood big shots meet to discuss Sankranthi release clashes

With big-ticket movies like ‘RRR’, ‘Radhe Shyam’, and ‘Bheemla Nayak’ in the race during Sankranthi season, the traders of Tollywood are confused about a few things.

Andhra Pradesh’s ticket prices issue on one hand and the huge competition among the biggies on the other hand have become a headache for the producers, distributors, theater owners, and other movie traders.

Ram Charan and NTR-starrer ‘RRR’, Prabhas and Pooja Hegde-starrer ‘Radhe Shyam’, Pawan Kalyan, Rana Daggubati-starrer ‘Bheemla Nayak’ and one more biggie are on the list of the movies which are set to hit the screens during Sankranthi.

With all the biggies in this competition, there is no possibility of theaters being available for all the movies in the Telugu states. And, if negative talk creeps out about any of these movies after the release, the distributors will face heavy losses and will have to give away theatres. Keeping all the factors in mind, the big shots of the industry have arranged a meeting to discuss resolutions.

It is reported that there would be major changes in the release dates of the above-listed movies, along with other business-related resolutions.

Makers of Mahesh Babu’s ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ realised the risk factors earlier, and hence averted the box-office clash, postponing the movie to April 1.

Director Vetrimaran rallies behind Suriya on ‘Jai Bhim’ controversy

Stating that Suriya was the one star who was redefining stardom, National Award-winning Tamil director Vetrimaran on Thursday expressed his support for Suriya and his just-released film ‘Jai Bhim’.

Taking to Twitter, Vetrimaran said, “No one can be made to feel lesser for doing the right thing.”

He went on to say, “The commitment of director T J Gnanavel to make this film to let the world know the plight of the victims and Suriya’s constant efforts towards social justice, on and offscreen is truly inspiring.#JaiBhim”

Stating that it was only natural that these films cause angst amongst those who did not want the status quo to change, the director posted the hashtag #WeStandWithSuriya.

Further, he went on to say that films that question the inequalities and injustices of a society too are weapons towards social justice. “We stand by the whole team of #JaiBhim,” he said.

Vetrimaran hasn’t been the only one to express support for Suriya. The entire Tamil film industry seems to have rallied behind the actor in his stand-off with the PMK, over the latter’s allegations that the film ‘Jai Bhim’ had deliberately showcased the Vanniyar community in poor light.
