Mrunal Thakur: 1971 war film ‘Pippa’ about a glorious chapter of Indian history

Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur, who has wrapped up the shooting of the upcoming film ‘Pippa’ that also stars Ishaan Khattar, says the film has given her a chance to know about a glorious chapter of Indian history.

Mrunal said, “‘Pippa’ has shown me such a great time and enriched me as an actor. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the era as part of my prep. It is an honour to be part of a film that depicts an Indian victory by making it personal. The experience of working with Raja Krishna Menon, Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and the entire cast was fantastic.”

She will be seen essaying the role of Ishaan Khatter and Priyanshu Painyuli’s reel sister in the film.

Produced by RSVP and Roy Kapur Films, Pippa also features Soni Razdan.

While Soni has also wrapped up her portion of the shoot, Khatter and Painyuli will continue shooting for the Raja Krishna Menon directorial.

Based on ‘The Burning Chaffees’ written by Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, ‘Pippa’ is a heroic tank battle film that underlines the bravery of the war veteran of the 45th Cavalry tank squadron who, along with his siblings, fought on the eastern front during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, which led to the liberation of India’s neighbour Bangladesh.

Christened as ‘Pippa’, the amphibious war tank involved in the victory, is akin to an empty ghee ‘dabba’ that smoothly floats on water.

‘Bigg Boss 15’: Karan Kundrra doesn’t shy away from letting people know about his life

Television actor Karan Kundrra, who is one of the 15 contestants in the latest edition of ‘Bigg Boss’, does not worry about controversies created in the show as he says he is not a person who shies away from letting people know about his life.

Talking about contestants getting into controversies in the reality show, Karan told IANS: “I am not a person who shies away from letting people know about my life because I chose this life. Everything is out there.”

He added: “Yes, it is a different level of exposure where people will be watching us 24×7 but at the same time it has got its on perks and as long as I know I am not duping anybody or being irrational or injustice happening because of me I am good. I am not scared of that part.”

Karan is a known personality as he has worked in popular shows such as ‘Kitani Mohabbat Hai’, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ and even movies including ‘Mubarakan’ and ‘Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare’.

Does being a known figure give him an edge over other contestants in the show, which airs on Colors?

“It’s a perspective. There are a lot of people who already know me and associate with me. But that gives an edge to other people because they have seen me on other shows and they have a perception about me.”

He added: “This is a very stressful and challenging situation and people will get to know the exact real person I am. It could go anyway.”

What according to him are the pros and cons of being a part of a reality show?

Karan, who has judged, participated and even hosted in the genre, said: “I have been a participant before in ‘Zara Nachke Dikha’ as well. I have been on the other side, which is the judging side and the hosting side.”

He added: “For the first time I am crossing that line after a long time so there are advantages and disadvantages of both the things because I like to over analyse things because I would put myself in the hosts’ shoes. It might be difficult or easy for me. I am ready for both.”

Ayushmann Khurrana: I’m a total director’s actor

Ayushmann Khurrana says he naturally gravitates towards edgy content and that he is a complete director’s actor.

On the third anniversary of ‘Andhadhun’, directed by Sriram Raghavan, Ayushmann thanked the director for choosing to collaborate with him.

Ayushmann said: “I naturally gravitate towards edgy and disruptive scripts and ‘Andhadhun’ was a combination of everything that is fresh, unique, path-breaking.”

He added: “Sriram Raghavan is one of the best directors of our country and I’m fortunate that I got the opportunity to creatively collaborate with him.”

The film revolves around a boy named Akash, a piano player pretending to be visually-impaired. He unwittingly becomes entangled in a number of problems as he witnesses the murder of a former film actor.

Ayushmann said that he “surrendered” to Raghavan’s vision and his mastery.

“I’m proud that Andhadhun is part of my filmography. It is a project that made me unlearn and learn a lot. Playing a blind man who plays the piano was not an easy task.”

The actor reveals that he was hand-held by the director all through the preparation process and shoot which resulted in him delivering a brilliant performance that earned him the Best Actor award at the National Film Awards.

He says, “I couldn’t have done this with authenticity if I didn’t have a visionary person like Sriram sir to handhold me. I have to credit Pooja Ladha Surti (co-writer and editor) for her magic in shaping the film. And I’m thankful to my piano coach Akshayye Varma too.”

Ayushmann felt challenged as an artiste during ‘Andhadhun’ and that propelled him to deliver his best on screen.

He says, “I’m a total director’s actor and ‘Andhadhun’ made me a better actor than before. It taught me to always challenge myself as an artiste and be a restless creative soul.

“‘Andhadhun’ was one of the most fulfilling films creatively for me as it gave me the freedom to express myself freely. So, all credit to Sriram sir for bringing out a side to me that I didn’t think existed and I thank him for choosing me to be a part of his masterpiece.”
