Sherlyn Chopra takes a dig at Shilpa Shetty’s statement on Raj Kundra

Actress and adult content creator Sherlyn Chopra has taken a dig at Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra, whom she addressed as ‘didi’ in a video, for giving a statement that she wasn’t aware about her businessman husband Raj Kundra’s activities.

Raj Kundra is under custody in a pornography racket case. He is being investigated for his connection to applications that created content that has been alleged to be pornographic in nature. Raj, in his defence, has reportedly said that it is simply adult content.

Sherlyn, who in July said that she was the first person to give a statement to the investigating team of the Maharashtra Police Cyber Cell in Raj Kundra’s case, posted a video on Twitter taking a dig at the Hindi film actress.

In the video, Sherlyn is seen lifting dumbbells while talking to the camera in Hindi.

“Media reports ke anusaar didi ka yeh kehna hai ki unhe apne pati dev ke nefarious activities ke baare main koi bhi jaankari nahi thi (according to media reports, ‘didi’ is saying that she was not aware of the nefarious activities of her husband),” Sherlyn said.

She added: “Aur toh aur didi ka yeh bhi kehna hai ki unke pati ki chal achal sampatti ki shroot ki bhi jaankaari nahi thi…(‘Didi’ is also saying that she doesn’t know about the movable and immovable assets of her husband.)”

“Ab is baat main kitni sachaai hai iska anumaan aap khud laga sakte hai…waaise isi kya kehte yeda bankar peda khaana (How true is this statement, you guys can understand yourselves.)”

On Thursday, Shilpa had informed Mumbai Police that she remained too tied up in her work to know the porn apps or other activities of her husband Raj Kundra.

She had further stated that Raj had launched Viaan Industries Ltd around April 2015 and she was on the board till July 2020 when she quit owing to personal reasons, as stated in the charge sheet filed by the police on Wednesday against Kundra and his associate Ryan Thorpe.

Priyanka issues apology after row over CBS show ‘The Activist’

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas has issued an apology over her participation in the CBS show ‘The Activist’, after it got embroiled in a controversy and social media backlash. She says she is sorry that her participation in it disappointed many.

The actress, who is married to American pop star Nick Jonas, said she has been “moved” by the criticism.

She shared the apology letter on her Instagram.

It read: “I have been moved by the power of your voices over the past week. At the core, Activism is fuelled by cause and effect, and when the people come together to raise their voice about something, there is always an effect. You were heard.”

The statement further read: “The show got it wrong, and I am sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you.”

The 39-year-old actress said that the intention was always to “bring attention to the people behind the ideas and highlight the actions and impact of the causes they support tirelessly.”

“I’m happy to know that in this new format, their stories will be the highlight, and I’m proud to collaborate with the partners who have their ear to the ground and know when it’s time to hit pause and re-evaluate,” she said.

The actress added: “There is a global community of activists who fight the fight every single day and put their blood, sweat and tears into creating change, but more often than not, they are rarely heard or acknowledged.”

“Their work is so important and they too deserve to be recognised and celebrated. Thank you to each and everyone of you all for all that you do.”

The network CBS had earlier announced a change in format for the show. It would be changed from a competition show to a one-time documentary.

‘The Activist’ was announced as involving six “inspiring activists” who will team up with three public personalities such as Usher, Priyanka, and Julianne Hough.

The format for the series had six activists representing three causes — health, education and environment — completing challenges to raise awareness about those issues during the initial four episodes.

For the fifth and final episode, three of the six activists were to have been chosen (one representing each area) to go to the G20 summit in Rome at the end of October and meet with world leaders to personally press their causes.

Performances from well-known musicians also would have figured into the climactic episode.

The news was met with “shock”.

Earlier, Julianne Hought had also addressed the criticism in a note.

Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor turn host and guest on ‘Teri Meri Baatein’

Bollywood buffs like most of us are always on the lookout for some insights into the likes and dislikes of their favourite stars, and ‘Teri Meri Baatein’ will give some of those entertaining sneak peeks. The show will see the guests play the hosts too and give some latest gossip of B-Town celebrities.

‘Teri Meri Baatein’ is all set to start with Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor. They will get together for a candid chat with each other, spilling some exciting beans.

While getting spontaneous with each other, Saif and Arjun reveal their hobbies, worst fears along with some memorable moments from the shoot of their recent movie ‘Bhoot Police’. Arjun talks about making his hobby and passion of acting as his profession. Being a movie buff since childhood, he has always been drawn towards them and now is fortunate enough to be working in the industry.

On the other hand, Saif goes on to reveal his knack for art, and how he collects art pieces from his movie sets. On being asked about his fears, Saif candidly admits that he is afraid of late nights in a dense forest. Relatable much, isn’t it!?

Furthermore, Arjun and Saif discuss ‘Bhoot Police’ and how their characters of ‘Vibhooti’ and ‘Chiraunji’ from the film are connected. While ‘Chiraunji’ is a firm believer in the supernatural forces and ‘Vibhooti’ is more of a skeptic, in reality they believed more in each other’s roles rather than their own.

Coupled with some anecdotal, personal and fun conversations between the celebrities, ‘Teri Meri Baatein’ will have some segments. ‘Best of Five’ will have guests ask 5 questions to each other and the one with the most amazing answers wins a gift hamper.

‘Pic Story’ will reveal fascinating incidents and moments behind the pictures. While ‘Khel Khel Mein’ will turn the game mode on, ‘True or False’, ‘Andar ki Baat’ and ‘Video Game’ will further unfold secrets and add on to the entertainment quotient for the fans.

For 2nd day, IT sleuths ‘search’ actor Sonu Sood’s home

For the second consecutive day, the Income Tax Department continued its ‘survey’ operations at the home of Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, official sources said here on Thursday.

A team of IT sleuths swooped on the 48-year-old Sood’s Juhu home to carry out search operations to detect certain alleged financial irregularities.

The IT department is examining bank statements, books of accounts, documents and details of financial or other business transactions during the ‘survey’, for suspected tax evasion, though no details are being shared officially.

In Wednesday’s operations, the IT had searched around half-a-dozen premises linked to the actor, including offices and other properties in Mumbai and certain locations in Lucknow.

Sood shot into limelight last year (2020) for arranging free flights or luxury buses for stranded migrants during the lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic and sent them to different parts of India, besides organising liquid medical oxygen supplies to various hospitals during the second Covid wave this year (2021).

Jacqueline Fernandez takes social media criticism in her stride

Actress Jacqueline Fernandez, during a chat session with her ‘Bhoot Police’ co-actor Arjun Kapoor, said that some of the social media criticism makes sense to her as she takes it positively.

Arjun has started a social media chat session titled ‘Bak Bak with Baba’ that will see the actor talk to his industry friends and family to unearth things that people might not know about. He dropped a candid chat session with Jacqueline, where they spoke about everything from her first crush, her fitness journey and how she tackles trolls.

The ‘Gunday’ actor asked Jacqueline: “The meanest thing that you have read about yourself on social media?”

She replied: “There are a lot of mean things. It’s ok we all get it. I read things about myself how terrible I sound, how terrible my accent is and how I speak Hindi, bad criticism on how I look. I kind of take it like positively. I am like ok what do they mean.”

She added: “Then, I feel may be there is some room for improvement. There is some criticism where you feel this person is being nasty. Some places actually makes sense to me.”

Talking about her first crush to Arjun, Jacqueline said: “There was somebody in school but I can’t name him. I also had a huge crush on Leonardo DiCaprio after watching ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Titanic’ and Ricardo from Backstreet Boys.”

She further revealed to Arjun that she has “never been on a blind date.”

The actor, who plays Chiraunji in the horror comedy, then asked the actress about how important food is to her?

Jacqueline shared that she definitely loves to celebrate with food.

She also added: “There was a phase in my 20s when I did turn to food and that was late at night. I lived alone so it was like cake, ice cream, anything crispy. I actually did have a terrible relationship with food and then I went like starving for a week which is like really bad for you.”

“So, now it’s about knowing that I don’t need to turn to it, tomorrow is another day and we will get through it.”

Facing flak, US network turns game show ‘The Activist’ with PC into documentary

After becoming a target of online criticism, series ‘The Activist’, which stars Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas among many others is being reconfigured and will now become a one-time documentary special instead of a five-episode competition series.

Although footage for the original incarnation of the series had already been shot, this version of ‘The Activist’ will be entirely new, with filming expected to begin from scratch, reports variety.com.

The show, originally set to premiere as a series on October 22, had faced serious heat since Usher, Julianne Hough and Priyanka were announced as hosts late last week.

Social media users and opinion writers had laid into the competitive nature of a show meant to celebrate and encourage activism, among other concerns.

In a joint statement, network CBS and producing partners Global Citizen and Live Nation announced the format switch, saying: “‘The Activist’ was designed to show a wide audience the passion, long hours, and ingenuity that activists put into changing the world, hopefully inspiring others to do the same.

“However, it has become apparent the format of the show as announced distracts from the vital work these incredible activists do in their communities every day. The push for global change is not a competition and requires a global effort.

“As a result, we are changing the format to remove the competitive element and reimagining the concept into a primetime documentary special (air date to be announced).”

It added: “t will showcase the tireless work of six activists and the impact they have advocating for causes they deeply believe in. Each activist will be awarded a cash grant for the organization of their choice, as was planned for the original show.”

The joint statement concludes by saying that the activists and community leaders around the world work every day, often without fanfare, to advance protections for people, communities, and our planet.

“We hope that by showcasing their work we will inspire more people to become more involved in addressing the world’s most pressing issues. We look forward to highlighting the mission and lives of each of these incredible people.”

Global Citizen released its own separate statement that included an apology.

“Global activism centers on collaboration and cooperation, not competition. We apologize to the activists, hosts, and the larger activist community a” we got it wrong,” the philanthropic org said.

“It is our responsibility to use this platform in the most effective way to realize change and elevate the incredible activists dedicating their lives to progress all around the world.”

The concept for ‘The Activist’ had been announced in May but, with no celebrity names attached, drew almost no notice at the time

The details about the show hadn’t changed when the hosts were announced last week, but this time, it got the spotlight with the competitive aspect provoking ire and accusations that the use of social media metrics in judging the winners amounted to a celebration of “click-tivism”.

The documentary version is expected to focus on the same activists but without the “challenges” or evaluations.

Representatives for the network and producing entities declined to address creative aspects of the show’s reconfiguration, indicating that practical matters of restarting production with a more straight-forward documentary concept would be addressed after the initial word gets out that critics of ‘The Activist’ have been heard.

Hough had already addressed the show’s growing legion of detractors, posting a four-part message to her Instagram account.
