Budding composers Javed-Mohsin on creating retro album for Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari

The composer duo of Javed-Mohsin has composed popular songs like Ding dang in Munna Michael and Pal in Jalebi. They are now back with the album of the upcoming comedy, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari.

“Composing the entire album was interesting and challenging. It was a huge opportunity for us, as these days composers don’t get the chance to compose the entire album because of the multi-composer trend. So, when we got the chance to compose and design the entire album, we jumped at the opportunity because it gave us a chance to explore different genres,” said Mohsin.

The film is a satirical comedy-drama set in the nineties and narrates the story of a wedding planner at a time the mobile phone and the internet did not exist. Creating retro songs for the current upbeat market was a challenge, said Mohin.

” ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’ is based in the nineties and the makers were certain that they wanted the flavor of that decade in the songs, with a commercial twist. The era was filled with commercial songs, one-on-one kind of songs. There’s an item song, a club song, a chase song, a romantic song, and a promotional track. That makes it a complete album,” Mohsin added.

“We have worked really hard to design the whole album by using different live instruments. It took us around five months to complete the process, keeping the authenticity of the film. The sound that will be out soon is going to be larger than life. We are sure that listeners will enjoy every song in the album. They are also lyrically very strong,” they concluded.

Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the rom-com stars Diljit Dosanjh, Manoj Bajpayee, and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the pivotal roles.

Rapper Raja Kumari releases first Hindi single

Grammy-nominated Indian-American rapper and songwriter Raja Kumari has released her first all Hindi track, titled Shanti. She dedicates the song to the people of her motherland.

“Shanti” is the Hindi version of her previous English track “Peace”, originally co-written by Raja Kumari and her long-time collaborator Elvis Brown. The new Hindi version has been penned by Charan.

“When I first released ‘Peace’ in July 2020, I felt the world needed to hear me speak in a different vibration. The song is written as an affirmation for good vibes, positive energy, and the removal of toxicity in your life,” said the rapper.

“As the song grew among my fans, I realized its power and how it connected us all. It inspired me to go deeper within myself, and do something I have never done before. ‘Shanti’, the Hindi version of ‘Peace’, is my first song completely sung in Hindi and I dedicate it to my motherland and all my fans around the world. I hope you enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it for you,” she added.

Reflecting on her personal transition over the past few months, the rapper-songwriter said: “In the music industry, you can get swept up in a lot of the devils that can accompany levels of celebrity, and I’ve found peace in meditation, yoga, sound healing, and more. I was chasing ‘the good life’ in ways that weren’t deeply fulfilling; they were only surface level.”

“After some personal reflection and growth in the last few months, I’ve learned how to find internal peace in ways that help me and not by trying to please everyone around me. I’m spending more time with nature and enjoy the rhythm and timing of it, which has influenced my music and brought new inspiration to my art. I’ve become vegan and started studying astrology. I’ve been practicing meditation and learning the power of breathwork and how proper breathing can have such an effect on your outlook,” she added.

The rapper also shared that through her “Peace Project” she wants “to help inspire people to find their own path to a good life”.

“Life can be enjoyable when you manifest. People can re-connect by self-care — conscious cooking, meditation, and nature bathing. This time doesn’t have to be darkness — it can be a time of great inspiration and renaissance for us all,” she added.

Singer injured in celebratory firing at BJP leader’s party

A Bhojpuri singer was injured in celebratory firing during a birthday party at a BJP leader’s residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, police said on Tuesday.

Golu Raja was performing on stage along with others when he was hit. He is now out of danger.

According to reports, the incident took place on Monday night in Mahakalpur village of Ballia at the residence of Bhanu Dubey, Vice President of the district Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the BJP’s youth wing.

Celebrations were on for the birthday of Dubey’s son, and a singing program was underway when some guests began firing in the air.

Ballia Superintendent of Police, Devendra Nath, said that one bullet hit Raja’s stomach and the other his hand, fracturing the bone. The shots were fired from a licensed revolver, he added. The Bhojpuri singer has been moved to Varanasi for treatment.

The accused have not been identified yet and video footage from the party is being scanned.

Jim Sarbh: Don’t think we give credit to all pieces that go into a film

Actor Jim Sarbh says not much credit is given to all the pieces that go into making a film.

“Everyone likes to think that actors are the greatest things on earth, but no. It’s all (about) good film, good direction, and things put together, the way it is edited,” the actor told IANS.

“I don’t think we give credit to all the pieces that go into a film. So, as long as you can stop thinking about yourself as the main and start thinking about more in terms of telling great stories I think things are fine,” he added.

Jim made his debut in Bollywood in 2016 with the film “Neerja”, and was later seen in films like “Padmaavat”, “Raabta”, “A Death In The Gunj”, “Sanju” and “House Arrest”.

Asked if he is happy with his run in Bollywood so far, Jim said: “Yeah, it is more like, ‘oh, cool! Work is happening so let’s try to do this the best way I can and move on to the next one’.”

He added: “I think all you can really do is put your head down and try to work and try to make the best of opportunities that come to you, and not be so worried about the star-based system and instead be committed to telling good stories.

Jim will soon be seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s revenge dram “Trish”, which also features Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda, Harshvardhan Rane, and Sanjeeda Sheikh. “Trish” releases as a film as well as series on Zee5.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah feels recent controversies, related to allegations of Bollywood-drug trade nexus as well as nepotism charges, which have been surrounding the film fraternity, do not bother him.

“Without taking names, I want to say that the controversies and generalization that have defamed our film industry in the recent past do not bother me. What bothers me is the people who are raising their voices with a huge amount of insincerity. If you know that you are an influential voice of the film industry, will you not check your own words before uttering them? That is why I have difficulty trusting them. The audience that is observing the toxicity, should sit back and try to understand who is benefitting from these controversies? As an audience, are you?” said the actor.

Gulshan has managed to make his mark in the entertainment industry across mediums. He has impressed in films like “Shaitan”, “Hate Story”, “Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela”, and “A Death In The Gunj”, just as he has scored in web series like “Smoke” and “Asos”. His new film “Footfairy” releases on television.

In his upcoming film, Gulshan has worked with budding filmmaker Kanishk Varma. Asked if the actor-director equation changes depending on the experience of the director, Gulshan told IANS: “I do not friend with Dibakar (Banerjee) the way I am friend with Kanishk but then I have a different level of respect for Dibakar because of the excellent director he is. So when I worked with him in ‘Ghost Stories; it was a unique actor-director equation on set.”

“Who I collaborate with matters to me for sure. I would really love to work with Vasan (Bala) and Anurag (Kashyap) and not to, as well. We are good friends and there is a great comfort level. If I only work with my good friends and keep myself in that comfort zone all the time, I will stop pushing myself towards challenges and that will not help in my career growth,” he reasoned.

He explained his point further: “When I was working in ‘Commando 3’ I wasn’t friends with the director initially. Everyone was new to me — the director, actors, and crew members. Eventually, we got along really well. That is how we expand our professional lives. I think I would love to work with Vasan and Anurag but not in every film! Because our equation or bonding is not defined by the number of projects we do together,” explained the actor.

The actor made his debut with Anurag Kashyap’s 2011 release, “That Girl In Yellow Boots” and also appeared in the filmmaker’s 2015 co-production, “Hunterrr”. With Vasan Bala, he worked in “Peddlers” (2012) and “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” (2018).

Gulshan’s latest, “Footfairy”, is an &pictures original film all set to hit television screens on October 24.

Indian Ocean pay tribute to Covid heroes in new anthem

The rock band Indian Ocean has paid tribute to Covid-19 heroes through the anthem of the upcoming TV show, Bharat Ke Mahaveer.

With lyrics, “Manzilain hum khud Aaj kehne lageen, dil mein hai house, jeetegi zindagi”, the anthem video features some of India’s Covid-19 heroes along with hosts Dia Mirza and Sonu Sood. The anthem was launched on the United Nations’ 75th anniversary on Saturday.

“We believe that it is important to bring out the positive stories amidst the prevailing negativity. That is precisely why we associated with ‘Bharat Ke Mahaveer’ to create the anthem. It highlights the message that if we all come together, with good intentions and our collective efforts, we can and we will overcome this difficult situation,” the band said in a joint statement.

“It feels great to see that people stepped up during such difficult times to help those in need and we saw many examples of such stories around us. The ‘Bharat Ke Mahaveer’ anthem is a salute to all such heroes and we have tried to do justice to these inspiring stories through our music,” they added.

Talking of the anthem, Dia added: “It speaks of hope, solidarity, unity, and brotherhood. During these difficult and trying times, this message is exactly what India and the world need.”

“Bharat Ke Mahaveer” is a three-part series and will bring 12 stories as representative of the spirit of solidarity in the country. It will commence with phase one in November on the Discovery channel, and Discovery Plus app.

Covid-infected senior Tollywood actor Rajasekhar is not critical, said his actress-daughter Shivathmika Rajasekhar on Thursday.

“I cannot thank you all enough for your love and wishes. But please know he is not critical. He is stable and getting better. Please do not spread fake news,” said Shivathmika.

“Though it is proving to be difficult”, she said her father has been fighting hard.

“We believe that it is your prayers, love, and well wishes that protect us and keep us going. I am here asking you to pray for nanna’s (dad) speedy recovery. With your love, he will come out stronger,” she said.

On Saturday, Rajasekhar confirmed that his entire family has tested positive for Coronavirus.

“Both the kids are completely out of it, Jeevitha and I are feeling much better and will be back home soon,” he said.

The statement comes at a time when a lot of speculations were being made about Rajasekhar’s health status.

Singer-turned-actress Amika Shail plays a pivotal part in the upcoming web series, Mirzapur 2. She recalls being emotional when her casting in the show was confirmed.

“I became emotional when the news broke of my confirmation in ‘Mirzapur’. I had watched season one in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed it, just like the millions of fans the world over. However, being a part of the show is magical. My pulse went ticking when on my first day on the sets I saw Kaleen Bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi), Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Munna (Divyendu),” she said.

Amika plays a singer in the show. “The character of a singer came naturally to me, it was a dream come true. I loved working with the stellar cast and crew. I learned a lot watching Pankaj ji acting as he has a very raw way of doing things. His perspective as an artiste is amazing. I believe that the almighty has already planned a good Diwali for me this year!” she added.

She started her journey as a singer in the reality show “Little Champs” at the age of nine. She stepped into acting and appeared in television series like “Madam Sir”, “Laal Ishq”, “Abhay”, “Balveer Returns”, and “Udaan”.

The actress says that this year she has been fortunate to get ample opportunities. “My two shows and a movie are premiering within a month. ‘Gandii Baat 5’ (web series) has done well and now I am biting my nails as the release date of ‘Mirzapur 2’ inches closer. This will be followed by ‘Laxmmi Bomb’. ‘Mirzapur 2’ is memorable for me as I essay the character of a singer in the series, who is kidnapped by Munna Bhaiya,” she said.

Deepti Naval undergoes angioplasty at Mohali hospital

Actor Deepti Naval, who suffered a heart attack in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, underwent angioplasty at the Fortis hospital in Mohali early Tuesday and her condition was stable, doctors said.

She suffered the first heart attack on Sunday and was brought to the hospital in a cardiac care ambulance late Monday.

Her condition was stable and will likely be discharged soon, a doctor told IANS.

The actress had been staying at her cottage in Manali for quite some time.

The all-time blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) turned 25 on Tuesday, and a special emoji has been launched on Twitter to celebrate the milestone Bollywood film.

The emoji by Twitter India is of a cowbell, which became a token of the protagonists’ romance in the storyline of the film, and continues to be associated with the film.

Released on October 20, 1995, the Aditya Chopra directorial, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, tells the love story of Raj (SRK) and Simran (Kajol), who live in the UK. The film kicked off the trend of NRI romances on the Bollywood screen and also reorganized romance in Hindi cinema forever.

On Tuesday, Shah Rukh and Kajol also changed their Twitter names and display pictures to reflect their characters in the film.

“We are excited to celebrate one of the most iconic Indian romances, DDLJ, with the movie’s innumerable fans on the service. With the new custom #DDLJ25 emoji, we hope to light up timelines with Tweets about this classic,” said Cheryl-Ann Couto on behalf of the microblogging site.

DDLJ went on to become the longest-running film in the history of Indian cinema. It ran for over 20 years in Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theatre.

Apart from Shah Rukh and Kajol, late actor Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal, Anupam Kher, and Parmeet Sethi also left an indelible mark with stellar performances. Beyond fresh storytelling, characterization, and performances, the film is also remembered to this day for the songs Jatin-Lalit composed.

Meanwhile, SRK has shared that “DDLJ” helped him “cement my place and brought me fame in a way that I didn’t think it would”.

“As for perception, I always felt that I can play more unconventional roles because of my looks, but ‘DDLJ’ has believed that and I still struggle to make that one macho unconventional kick-a** character which suits me, or so I thought. But it been a struggle to not be considered romantic and sweet for the last 25 years — a struggle, I guess, I am happy to lose,” Shah Rukh quipped.
