‘Coffee With Kadhal’ is a story around three brothers, says Sundar C

Ace director Sundar C, who is known for making rom-coms that work big time, said that his next upcoming romantic, feel-good, comedy entertainer, ‘Coffee with Kadhal’ is a story that revolves around three brothers.

Participating in the audio and trailer launch event of the film which was held at Leela Palace on Monday, Sundar C said: “Coffee with Kadhal is a romantic drama, a family entertainer, a hilarious comedy. It is everything rolled into one. In short, it is a feel-good entertainer.”

“The film is about three brothers played by Srikanth, Jiiva and Jai. All three brothers have characters that are in stark contrast with one another. While Srikanth is an introvert, Jai plays an extrovert in the film. Jiiva strikes a balance between being an introvert and an extrovert. The story is based on them — their romantic relationships, their family bond, the problems that erupt between them.”

“There are six female leads in the film. Samyuktha, Raiza Wilson, Divyadarshini, Malavika Sharma, Aishwarya Dutta, and Amrita Iyer. Each of these characters helps the story progress,” he said.

The director disclosed that the film had eight songs in all and that music director Yuvan Shankar Raja was a big strength of the film.

The film, which has been produced by Sundar’s wife Kushbhu’s Avni Cinemax, is to be presented by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies on October 7 this year.

From chana puri to dandiya masti, TV celebs reveal their Navratri celebration plans

Be it wearing traditional and colorful dresses, dancing with dandiya sticks, or enjoying special delicacies, Navratri is all here to celebrate with excitement, fun, and devotion. And everyone has their own way of celebrating, similarly, TV actors also talked about the way they would like to observe it in a distinct and memorable way.

‘Kumkum Bhagya’s Aparna Mishra loves gorging on some special food that are prepared during fasts which include sabudana vada(deep-fried fritter made with tapioca pearls and boiled potatoes), sabudana khichdi, and also prasad of chana puri.

She said: “I celebrate Navratri every year and it is one of my favorite festivals too. I have actually come to love fasting and relish the delicious sabudana vada, khichdi, and Chana puri which are prepared around this time of the year. In fact, I wait for Navratri so that I can have all these ‘Falhari’ dishes.”

But the actress is a little disappointed as she won’t be able to keep fast this year because of her shoots and busy work schedule.

“However, this year I won’t be able to fast during Navratri because of a hectic shoot schedule, but will be doing the aarti and attending Garba events in the city,” she added.

On the other hand, stand-up comedian Gaurav Dubey is fond of performing Garba with family and friends and this year too he is going to do the same.

“Navratri is one of my favorite festivals that I eagerly await. It brings my family together as we all meet, exchange sweets and gifts, and spend nights playing Garba. For me, Garba is the highlight of the festival.”

“The whole festival has a different vibe to it which makes it special for everyone. This year as well, I plan to celebrate it with my family and if time permits, then I will definitely play Garba with my loved ones,” revealed the 28-year-old comedian.

For actress Shubhaavi Choksey, any festival is all about togetherness and making some memories with families and friends.

She said: “Festivals are always a means to bring everyone together and have a good time celebrating with our dear and near ones. For me, Navratri has always been about celebrating the festival with family and friends with much enthusiasm and focusing on ‘shakti'(divine energy).

While elaborating more about the reason to celebrate Navratri, she explained: “The festival is celebrated for different reasons in different parts of India, but the main theme remains the same – the victory of good over evil. There is also that aspect of different colors being assigned to different days and I try to follow up with that trend and color coordinate.”

Actress Neha Joshi also explained the meaning of the first day of Navratri and its importance.

“On the first day of Navratri, Devi Shailputri, also known as Devi Parvati, is worshipped. Revered as the daughter of the Himalayas, She is believed to bring about the highest state of consciousness, enthusiasm, success, and happiness in an individual. She is the absolute form of mother nature.”

“People wear yellow-colored clothes to please the Goddess and in my hometown, we offer pure ghee to her. It is believed that by offering pure ghee, the devotees are blessed with a life free of diseases and illness,” she concluded.

Going behind the scenes at Nayanthara’s fairytale wedding

Streaming giant Netflix on Saturday dropped the dreamy teaser of actress Nayanthara’s wedding with director Vigensh Shivan, which will be showcased in a documentary titled ‘Nayanthara – Beyond The Fairytale’.

The teaser was unveiled at the streaming portal’s Tudum 2022 event, hosted by Zakir Khan and actor Prajakta Koli. The event announced the slate of upcoming Indian content in the event.

The over-a-minute teaser showcases Nayanthara, who is tagged as the “Lady Superstar” and Vigensh’s journey from dating to their marriage.

Talking about his ladylove, Shivan is heard saying: “She is a wonderful human being”.

The teaser slowly but beautifully moves towards her getting dolled up for her big day. She is seen sporting flowers on her hair and is dressed in red.

Talking about her journey, Nayanthara, who made it to the Forbes India “Celebrity 100” 2018 list in the teaser is heard saying: “When it all started, I had no idea how it would be. I was not a filmy kid. I am just a normal girl, who wants to give her 100 percent in whatever she does.”

Batters will be after bowlers on every ball in a shortened game: Axar Patel

Apart from India captain Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 20-ball 46 guiding India to a series-leveling six-wicket win over Australia in eight overs a side affair at Nagpur, left-arm spinner Axar Patel’s brilliant spell was very crucial in giving the hosts an early upper hand.

Patel’s two overs, one of which was bowled in the powerplay, went for only 13 runs. He kept things tight while ratting the stumps of Glenn Maxwell and Tim David and also bowled four dot balls to Matthew Wade, who had two unsuccessful tries at reverse sweeping him before getting a boundary on the third attempt.

“We were waiting in the dressing room for a long time. But even then, we were discussing plans and talking about the game being a small one (in terms of overs), and remaining switched on for the match. When you know it is a shortened game, the batters will be after the bowlers on every ball,” said Patel to leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in a video posted by BCCI on their official website.

Patel went on to explain his thought process when the match was reduced to eight overs a side. “I try to keep things simple and don’t think about where the batter would try to hit me. So as a bowler, it was very important for me to be brave and stick to my line and length as well as to my strengths with the ball.”

“But in that process, if the batter does get a few runs, it is fine, and try not to move away from your plans. Even good deliveries go for boundaries, but my plan was to keep it tight, stump to stump, make some changes in field placements, and not give the batter any sort of room, which helped in getting wickets.”

Coming into the Indian team as a like-for-like replacement for an injured Ravindra Jadeja, Patel has been impactful with his bowling spells in both matches against Australia. In Mohali, where every bowler was going for plenty, Patel kept things tight with his deadly spell of 3/17 bringing India back in the match and ensuring that the side doesn’t miss Jadeja in the bowling department.

“We spinners keep talking in meetings and do the planning. I think in Mohali, I knew the conditions well, having played for Kings XI Punjab, and knew what type of balls would work well. Before I bowled my first ball that day, the fact that we batted first, we were aware of how the pitch behaved, with no real help for the bowlers.”

“Our plan was to just bowl wicket-to-wicket given how there was very little on the pitch for the bowlers. As the game progressed, I would see how the batters were trying to get some shots. On seeing that, I would wary of my line and length. I did see that they were trying to sweep against me and I bowled the yorker. Luckily, all of this happened as the planning worked,” concluded Patel.

With Friday’s match won by India, the three-match series is now level at 1-1 with the series decider against Australia to be played in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Global investors view Shehbaz’s appeal as sign of imminent default on foreign debt

The price of Pakistan’s US dollar-denominated global bonds, Eurobond and Sukuk, slumped while their yields skyrocketed on world markets after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appealed for debt relief from rich nations to cope with the flood-hit economy.

The global bond investors interpreted the prime minister’s appeal as an indicator that the country was going to default on foreign debt repayments. Islamabad is scheduled to repay $1 billion against a maturing Sukuk on December 5, 2022, The, Express Tribune reported.

The prices of any country’s bonds plunge and their yields – the rate of return – soar while they are facing a financial crisis and vice versa.

Earlier, the Financial Times while citing a UN policy memo, reported that Pakistan should suspend international debt repayments and restructure loans with creditors after recent floods added to the country’s financial crisis.

The memorandum, which the UN Development Programme will share with Pakistan’s government this week, states that the country’s creditors should consider debt relief so that policymakers can prioritize financing its disaster response over loan repayment, the newspaper said.

The memo further proposed debt restructuring or swaps, where creditors would let go of repayments in exchange for Pakistan agreeing to invest in climate change-resilient infrastructure, FT said.

“Pakistan’s dollar bonds maturing in 2022 fell by 12 percent today (Friday) whereas dollar bonds maturing in 2024 and 2025 fell by 15 percent and 17 percent, respectively,” Topline Research’s analyst Umair Naseer said.

AHL Research reported the yield on the bond maturing in December 2022 skyrocketed by 6,560 basis points (bps) to a record high of 104.7 percent.

Similarly, the yields on bonds maturing in 2024 and 2025 shot up to 60.7 percent (up by 1,542 bps) and 39.2 percent (up by 831 bps), respectively.

Pakistan’s global bonds yields usually hover at much less than 10 percent on normal days, The Express Tribune reported.

The bond investors felt high default risk despite the country’s default risk being measured through CDS (currency default swap) and witnessed no major change during the day, Naseer said.

The country’s foreign exchange reserves, however, have continued to decrease every passing week, as authorities partially make import payments and foreign debt repayments from the reserves amid low inflows.

The foreign exchange reserves have fast depleted to around half at $8.3 billion since January 2022.

They are barely enough for a six-week import cover at present despite it receiving $1.16 billion in loan tranche from International Monetary Fund (IMF) in early September, The Express Tribune reported.

Experts, however, strongly believe the reserves would build up again after IMF resumed its $6.5 billion loan programme on August 29, 2022. This will be followed by inflows from other multilateral and bilateral creditors including World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Besides, the global community has pledged flood relief at around $1.5-2 billion. Their arrivals would also help boost the reserves.

The government has estimated reserves surging to around $16 billion by June 30, 2023

Anyhow, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail tried to clarify the situation arising out of Sharif’s talk and win back the global bond investors’ confidence later in the day on Friday.

“Given the climate-induced disaster in Pakistan, we are seeking debt relief from bilateral Paris Club creditors. We are neither seeking nor do we need, any relief from commercial banks or Eurobond creditors,” Ismail tweeted.

“We have a $1 billion bond due in December which we will pay on time and in full. We have been servicing all our commercial debt and will continue to do so. Our Eurobond debt is only $8 billion due between now and 2051. That’s not a large burden. A significant portion of our debt is from friendly countries who have said they will re-roll their deposits.”

Since trade volumes on Pakistan’s global bonds have reduced to low these days, therefore, “a small selling pressure on its dollar bonds could have resulted in sharp price fall, we believe”, Topline Research’s analyst said.

Ismail has reiterated the government’s resolve to meet its debt obligations and continue with the reform process that has been initiated.

“Hence, we believe that the likelihood of Pakistan defaulting on its debt payment is low in the short run.”

Further, the expected multilateral and bilateral flows post-floods are also likely to support pressure on the foreign exchange reserves of the country.

World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and a few friendly countries have already committed flood-related aid/funding which could be to the tune of $1.5-2 billion.
