‘Shamshera’ director: Fortunate to have worked with Chintu uncle, Ranbir; they are different yet similar

Filmmaker Karan Malhotra, who has worked with late veteran star Rishi Kapoor in ‘Agneepath’ and his actor son in the upcoming film ‘Shamshera’, feels fortunate to work with the father-son duo and revealed that they are different yet very similar.

Karan says: “I am fortunate to have worked with both Chintu’s uncle and Ranbir, they are so different yet so similar. While with Chintu’s uncle we would argue, fight and have multiple discussions on the character arc of Rauf Lala.”

“He always gave me immense respect and never treated me like a first-time director. The challenges we threw at each other only made the character bigger. I miss the madness on set with him every single day.”

He shared: “Ranbir and Chintu’s uncle is very different but their work ethics are similar. They both surrender to the vision of the director. Rishi Kapoor had always been vocal about his wish to see Ranbir do a hardcore commercial film.”

“So with that thought, working with Ranbir on Shamshera has been extremely delightful. He has given the character his all and I now can’t wait for audiences to witness the magic that he has created on-screen.”

The story of ‘Shamshera’ is set in the fictitious city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved, and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian general Shuddh Singh.

This is the story of a man who became a slave, a slave who became a leader, and then a legend for his tribe. He relentlessly fights for his tribe’s freedom and dignity. His name is Shamshera.

The high-octane, adrenaline-pumping entertainer is set in the 1800s in the heartland of India. It has the big promise of a never seen Ranbir Kapoor, who plays ‘Shamshera’ in the film! Sanjay Dutt plays Ranbir’s arch-enemy in this huge casting coup and his showdown with Ranbir will be something to watch out for as they will ferociously go after each other with no mercy.

Directed by Karan Malhotra, this action extravaganza has been produced by Aditya Chopra and is set to release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on July 22.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck wed in Vegas

0

Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have finally tied the knot in Las Vegas.

According to a marriage license on the online records for Clark County, Nevada, the couple’s official marriage was filed on Saturday, reports Variety.

The record is in both of their legal names: Benjamin Geza Affleck and Jennifer Lynn Lopez. Significantly, the record also indicates that Jennifer Lopez took Affleck as her legal last name.

Lopez confirmed her and Affleck’s nuptials through a new edition of her newsletter “On the JLo” later Sunday afternoon.

“We did it!” Lopez wrote, alongside a black-and-white photograph of her holding a bouquet and Affleck kissing her cheek.

“Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world,” Lopez shared.

The singer went on to say that they “Barely made it to the Little White Wedding chapel by midnight,” and concluded her newsletter with sweet enthusiasm writing, “Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at twelve-thirty in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with.

Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things “and worth waiting for”. She signed the letter as “Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”

The news of Lopez and Affleck’s engagement first broke in April. In an edition of ‘On the JLo’, the singer and actress shared a teary-eyed video for her fans while sporting a green diamond engagement ring.

She wrote: “Saturday night while at my favorite place on earth (in a bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed.”

Lopez, 52, and Affleck, 49, were among the most prominent celebrity couples in the early 2000s. They made two films together. The first was 2003’s “Gigli” which didn’t exactly light the box office on fire.

By the time the Kevin Smith-directed Jersey Girl’ hit theaters in 2004, the couple had already announced that they’d broken up. The couple was engaged for a lengthy stretch of time, though they never officially tied the knot.

However, Lopez and Affleck reunited roughly one year ago and have been seemingly inseparable ever since.

During their time apart, Lopez married singer-songwriter, Marc Anthony, in 2004 before divorcing him in 2014. Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner in 2005. The two divorced in 2018.

In their professional lives, Affleck won an Oscar for producing best picture ‘Argo’ and Lopez grew her fortune touring, acting in movies, and recording music.

A year ago, they found themselves back together, dating in the public eye, but without the same scrutiny from the celebrity press, which has evolved and becomes less critical since the turn of the century.

Car import case: Tamil superstar Vijay gets relief from Madras HC

0

The Madras High Court on Friday gave a major relief to Tamil superstar Vijay in a case related to his import of a luxury BMW car from the US, ruling that he would be liable to pay the penalty for delayed payment of entry tax only from January 29, 2019, to December 2021 and not from 2005.

A bench of Justice R. Suresh Kumar said that Vijay was liable to pay an entry tax as a division bench of the court had, on January 29, 2019, held that the state government was entitled to levy entry tax.

The bench, however, said that the Commercial Taxes Department should not have demanded a huge amount of Rs 30.23 lakh towards penalty, by levying it in 2005 and that the fine may be levied from January 29, 2019.

Vijay had approached the court in January 2022 and challenged a notice issued by the Commercial Taxes Department, on September 17, 2021, asking him to pay Rs 7.98 lakh as entry tax along with a penalty of Rs 30.23 lakh.

The advocate for the superstar said that he has already paid a tax liability of Rs 7.98 lakh in December 2021 and that he was challenging the penalty alone. He said that he had then imported the BMW as there were no dealers for the luxury car in Chennai those days.

The actor had also pleaded to the court to cancel the demand notice and the recovery notice.

The drama surrounding ‘RRR’ actor Ram Charan and his wife’s personal issues continue. Upasana Konidela, in a response to a media publisher, expressed her dissatisfaction with them, claiming that they misconstrued her remarks about Ram Charan and her not having kids.

During a recent conversation with Sadguru, Upasana expressed her reservations about having children. She revealed her thought process and how others react to it; Sadguru also spoke about it. However, some media outlets have entirely misinterpreted the context of Upasana’s comments.

However, Upasana clarified the situation. She captioned a screenshot of the news on her Instagram account, “Omg, this is not true. Please view the entire video and read my copy.”

Ram Charan and Upasana have been married for ten years and have separate life goals. She was always clear that she would have children only when they, as a couple were ready.

South vs Bollywood: Hindi viewing audience are alive, says Arjun Kapoor

0

At a time when regional cinema such as the ‘Baahubali’ franchise and more recently ‘Pushpa: The

Rise’, the ‘KGF franchise, and ‘RRR’ are leaving Hindi films far behind in the competition at the box office, Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor asserts that the Hindi viewing audience still exists as these films along with Hollywood movies are dubbed in Hindi.

Asked him what or where is Hindi cinema going wrong as Bollywood movies are not making it as big as films from the south, Arjun in a conversation with IANS said: “The films that are being dubbed and are coming out in Hindi at the end of the day that is a big sign. English films that come get dubbed… That is a big sign that the Hindi viewing audience is existing. They are alive.”

He minces no words when he says it is an “assessment that some of the Hindi films have not panned”

Arjun added: “But you have to realize these films started to say in 2019 and 2020 before the pandemic hit… A lot of them have been released now. We are also learning… It’s a phase where there is a new audience, and taste palate that has come through. We are also adapting and learning. We have to go back to basics and start appreciating our mainstream audiences…”

“We somewhere got lost because we were appealing to the multiplex audiences pre-pandemic and the digital audience post-pandemic.”

The 37-year-old, who started as an assistant director in the 2003 film ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho, shared that the “mainstream audience will always be the bread and butter of this industry.”

“There is no harm sometimes to taking a step back to take two steps forward because you can assess, observe and learn. Unfortunately that the films did not work the way they should have and in the next 6-8 months we have to be very patient… because there is a phase and a cycle…”

He added: “If we had managed to understand the multiplex audience and delivered films to them pre-pandemic then today the belief has to be to learn and adapt to the new age belief, through the process of the audiences and again start delivering… but patience is needed and we all need to be students and learn from the audience that is our biggest teacher.”

Arjun currently awaits the release of his upcoming film ‘Ek Villain Returns’. He also has ‘Kuttey’ and ‘The LadyKiller’.
