Sai Pallavi’s comment on the lynching of ‘cow smugglers’ provokes police complaint

0

A statement by Sai Pallavi in a YouTube interview on the lynching of an alleged cow smuggler has triggered a social media controversy just as her Telugu film, ‘Virata Parvam’, hit the big screens.

In a YouTube interview, the actress discussed the exodus of Pandits from Kashmir in the early 1990s and compared it with the recent incidents of lynching of suspected cow smugglers.

The celebrated actress, who says she is ideologically neutral, stated: “The film ‘The Kashmir Files’ depicts the assassination of Kashmiri Pandits. A man was recently slain for carrying a cow because he was suspected of being a Muslim. The perpetrators shouted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ after killing the victim. Where is the line drawn between what occurred in Kashmir and what occurred recently?”

The comment provoked a unit of the Bajrang Dal to file a complaint in Hyderabad. The Bajrang Dal Bhagyanagar displayed their complaint letter on Twitter and said that a case had been filed against the actress at the Sultanbazar P.S.

They asked Sai Pallavi to apologize to the entire country, particularly to Kashmiri Pandits, for her “venomous” statements. They added that if she did not do so, “the situation will deteriorate further”.

Some of Sai Pallavi’s admirers have defended her views on social media, while others have expressed their unhappiness.

‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff series based around Jon Snow is in early development.

According to ‘Variety’, actor Kit Harington is attached to reprise his role as the fan-favorite hero in the live-action show, which would take place after the events of ‘Game of Thrones’ — potentially opening up what many thoughts were an iron-clad ending to the wildly popular series.

In the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’, Snow realized his true identity and that he could be an heir to the Iron Throne.

The series concluded with his exile from Westeros as he rides into the Haunted Forest with Ghost and the Wildlings to begin a new life, reports Variety’.

Since the potential Jon Snow sequel series would take place after the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’, it’s possible that familiar characters — such as his half-siblings Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) — could show their faces.

HBO’s upcoming spinoff house of the Dragon, which is set 200 years before the original series, premieres on Aug. 21. Other “Game of Thrones” spinoffs in development include ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’, ‘10,000 Ships’, ‘9 Voyages’, Flea Bottom’ and an animated series.

Harington was nominated for two Emmys, in supporting actor and lead actor in a drama series, during his time on ‘Game of Thrones’.

After the series ended in 2019, Harington has starred in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ as Dane Whitman, appeared in an episode of Amazon’s ‘Modern Love’, and headlined Shakespeare’s ‘Henry V’ at the Donmar Warehouse in London.

Sriya Reddy: Stories drive success, language doesn’t matter

Tamil actress Sriya Reddy, who is gearing up for the release of her upcoming series ‘Suzhal- The Vortex’, opines that the language of cinema is very much universal in its essence as most rooted and local stories are being preferred by the audience all over the world.

Elaborating on the same, she said, “Content is key, you can’t falter with that, and language of cinema is universal. If stories are brilliant, language doesn’t matter anymore. And, for better clarity, films are being dubbed and there are subtitles too, like in the case of ‘Suzhal – The Vortex’, which is premiering in over 30 Indian and foreign languages.”

She further mentioned, “The most rooted and local stories today are being watched and appreciated across the world. Indian cinema needs to come up on the world stage, it’s already getting there, but we need to push it a little more, try a little harder.”

Agreeing with her, co-actor Kathir added, “People watching ‘Suzhal – The Vortex’, around the world will be fascinated about the cultural nuances, the micro-festival, and the narrative based in a small village in South India.”

Explaining the physical setting of the show, Aishwarya Rajesh said, “The content of our show is very rural and interesting. It is shot in the interiors of Tamil Nadu. In today’s time, something so regional has the potential to find an audience across the country, and throughout the world hopefully, because people are always eager to know more, witness something new.”

‘Suzhal- The Vortex’ is set to premiere on June 17 on Prime Video, in over 30 Indian and foreign languages, including French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Castilian Spanish, Latin Spanish, Arabic, Turkish and Japanese.

Ana de Armas stuns as Marilyn Monroe in ‘Blonde’ trailer

0

Actress Ana de Armas took everyone by surprise as she looked every inch like Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in the latest ‘Blonde’ trailer.

Netflix has debuted the first evocative footage from Andrew Dominik’s ‘Blonde’. The movie, based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates, is notable for its NC-17 rating, reports Variety’.

The supporting cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel, and Evan Williams.

The official ‘Blonde’ synopsis from Netflix reads: “(The film) boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, ‘Blonde’ blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.”

“Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens,” de Armas recently told Netflix Queue.

“He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”

“We worked on this film for hours, every single day for almost a year,” de Armas added.

“I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films — anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it.”

“The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible.”

‘Blonde’ releases globally on Netflix on September 23.
