Director Radha Krishna Kumar ambivalent about ‘Radhe Shyam’ postponement

In the wake of rising Covid cases in the country, the makers of ‘RRR’ had no option but to postpone the release of the magnum opus and now Prabhas’ ‘Radhe Shyam’ too may be delayed.

‘Radhe Shyam’ director Radha Krishna Kumar, who took to Twitter to express his feelings regarding the existing pandemic situation, wrote, “Times are tough, hearts are weak, minds in mayhem. Whatever life may throw at us – Our hopes are always High. Stay safe, stay high – Team #radheshyam.”

To this, one of his followers asked, “Are you indirectly trying to convey that ‘Radhe Shyam’ is to be postponed too?”, to which Radha Krishna Kumar replied, “If there is anything of such, it will be conveyed directly through official handles only”.

This reply of his has triggered more ambiguity regarding the movie’s release. As the director neither denied the postponement nor confirmed that the release would happen on time, so Prabhas’ fans seem to be in a confused state.

‘Radhe Shyam’ is scheduled for release on January 14 starring Prabhas, Pooja Hegde, Bhagya Shree, and others.

Trailer of ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa’ released

Prime Video on Tuesday released the trailer of its upcoming Tamil series ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa’, an anthology of five stories, that is scheduled to release on January 14.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa’ has been developed as five standalone episodes woven together by the commonality of the constraints and challenges faced by the characters of the stories in the second lockdown of the Covid pandemic.

All five stories – ‘Mugakavasa Mutham’, ‘Loners’, ‘Mouname Paarvayaai’, ‘Nizhal Tharum Idham’ and ‘The Mask’ – not only showcase the spirit of resilience of the characters while highlighting the melancholic mood but also offer a glimmer of hope.

Balaji Mohan, director of ‘Mugakavasa Mutham’, said, “‘Mugakavasa Mutham’ weaves together two of the most basic emotions of love and longing that were marred in the pandemic. Through Gouri and Teejay’s characters, we have attempted to show that love finds a way even in tough times and that we just need to keep the faith. It’s a story that young people across the globe will relate to and I am looking forward to receiving the audience’s reactions after the premiere on Prime Video.”

Halitha Shameem, director of ‘Loners’, shared, “My story is about how the pandemic and lockdown pushed us to find connections and support at the most unexpected places. It’s also about staying afloat especially when alone. ‘Loners’ brings together two wonderful actors Lijomol Jose and Arjun Das, and is bound to tug at the audience’s heartstrings.”

Madhumita, director of ‘Mouname Paarvayaai’, said, “In these two years of lockdowns and isolation, we’ve been given an opportunity to evaluate and re-evaluate our perspective on relationships. This film is my take on the relationship between a middle-aged couple, portrayed by Nadiya Moidu and Joju George, living by themselves. The people behind the voice tend to fade to the background as life’s everyday drudgery takes forefront. What do we do then, when this certainty is confronted by an uncertain future?”

Richard Anthony, director of ‘Nizhal Tharum Idham’, said, “Aishwarya’s story is about how the pandemic becomes the backdrop for her character as she goes on an inward journey and deals with the ups and downs of that emotional rollercoaster. These turbulent times have been quite hard on many and I am certain that the audiences will feel her sentiments very closely. ”

Surya Krishna, director of ‘The Mask’, shared, “In ‘The Mask’, I have highlighted that the pandemic put us in unique situations and, sometimes, it inadvertently helped us in more than one way, at least that’s how the movie wants to manifest itself to build hope amidst the situation. Sananth and Dhilip’s characters also have an out-of-the-blue rendezvous, experience emotions that are an outcome of this Covid and figure out a way through it.”

Jr NTR discusses favourite memory with his fans on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’

Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and S.S. Rajamouli, who are actively promoting their upcoming epic ‘RRR’, appeared on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’.

The trio, along with Alia Bhatt shared a great time, entertaining the audience.

Host Kapil Sharma had brought the topic of Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s huge fandom in the Telugu states. In one of those conversations, Jr NTR revealed that one of his movie events was attended by a massive crowd, which he can never forget in his life.

“We had organised an event for one of my movies ‘Andhrawala’. There were more than 8-9 lakh people. Not only that, not even one bad incident happened even with such a huge crowd gathering. This is something that will stay with me forever,” the ‘Student No. 1’ actor said.

Alia Bhatt, on being quizzed about what she had observed about Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s fans, said, “The actors down south, have worked in such great movies, of course. But, their fans love them not just for their work. They own these people like their own family.”

The show witnessed some rib-tickling comedy, as the stars enjoyed their participation on the comedy talk show.

‘RRR’ was supposed to hit the screens on January 7. But the rise of Covid cases and the restrictions has made it impossible for the movie to hit the screens soon.

The next release date for ‘RRR’ is not yet fixed.

Jared Leto-starrer ‘Morbius’ release date pushed by 3 months

The makers of the Spider Man spinoff ‘Morbius’ starring Jared Leto have pushed the release of the upcoming film by three months.

Sony Pictures will move the release of the film by three months, the studio said on Monday.

The film, part of Sony’s Spider-Man cinematic universe (not to be confused with Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe), will debut on April 1 instead of January 28, reports variety.com.

It’s not the first time that ‘Morbius’ has had to postpone its red carpet premiere. The film was supposed to debut on July 10, 2020, but got pushed due to Covid-19.

As the pandemic has raged, ‘Morbius’ has cycled through release dates, at various points it has been scheduled to open on July 31, 2020, then March 19, 2021, then October 8, 2021, and finally moving January 21, 2022, before shifting yet again to the January 28 date that it just vacated.

In its new release date, ‘Morbius’ will face off against ‘Easter Sunday’, a comedy with Jimmy O. Yang and Tiffany Haddish, as well as the Chris Pine thriller ‘The Contractor’.

Sony just scored massive box office successes with both ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’, so it makes sense that it would try to give ‘Morbius’ a longer runway at a time when the public health situation is complicating things.

The studio is also planning another standalone spinoff based on Spider Man villain Kraven the Hunter, so the stakes are high.

Sony licenses the Spider-Man character and the rights to his various antagonists and allies from Marvel in a deal that pre-dates the comic book company’s major move into moviemaking and its acquisition by the Walt Disney Company.

In the film, Jared Leto plays antihero Michael Morbius, who attempts a desperate gamble in order to treat a rare blood disorder, one that makes him more familiar with a darkness inside of him.

‘Morbius’ is directed by Daniel Espinosa and co-stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ crosses $600 million in North America

Hollywood star Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ towered over domestic box-office charts for the third weekend in a row.

‘No Way Home’ minted $52.7 million over the New Year’s holiday frame, boosting its domestic tally to $609 million, reports variety.com.

It extends an epic streak for the latest Spidey adventure as the lone blockbuster to deliver the kind of ticket sales it would have been expected to make in pre-pandemic times.

It now ranks as the 10th-highest grossing domestic release in history, supplanting Disney’s ‘Incredibles 2’ ($608 million).

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ currently has its sights on spots eight and nine, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ ($620 million) and ‘The Avengers’ ($623 million).

Globally, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has grossed $1.37 billion, passing 2018’s ‘Black Panther’ ($1.34 billion) to become the 12th biggest film in history. International ticket sales have accounted for a bulk of that haul, with overseas revenues at $759 million.

‘Sing 2’ enjoyed another relatively strong weekend. The film, which features an all-star voice cast of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and more, earned $19.6 million from 3,892 cinemas between Friday and Sunday, down a scant 12 per cent from its debut.

Since landing on the big screen in advance of Christmas, the well-reviewed ‘Sing 2’ has generated an impressive (for pandemic times) $89.6 million.

To illustrate the headwinds still facing movies that aren’t of the superhero variety, though, the follow-up is pacing significantly behind its predecessor. The original 2016 film ‘Sing’ sold far more tickets, ultimately grossing $270 million stateside and $634 million worldwide.

‘The King’s Man’, a prequel to the ‘Kingsman’ series, landed in third place with $4.5 million from 3,180 theatres.

That’s down only 24 per cent from inaugural weekend ticket sales, however, its box-office receipts weren’t that strong to begin with.

So far, the spy comedy has picked up $19.5 million at the domestic box office. Internationally, ‘The King’s Man’ added another $14.1 million from 22 overseas markets, boosting its global total to just $47.8 million.

At No. 4, sports drama ‘American Underdog’ earned $4.07 million. ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ fell to fifth place, scraping together $3.8 million from 3,552 locations over the weekend while playing on HBO Max.

Other notable releases in the top 10 include ‘West Side Story’, which pocketed $2.1 million from 2,690 venues. In total, director Steven Spielberg’s remake of the classic musical has made only $29.6 million in North America and $47 million worldwide, a disastrous result considering the acclaimed movie cost $100 million to produce.

Among prestige fare, director Paul Thomas Anderson’s coming-of-age film ‘Licorice Pizza’ landed in eighth place behind ‘West Side Story’ and ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’, which made $1.4 million over the weekend and $123 million to date.

‘Licorice Pizza’ served up $1.2 million from 786 locations, pushing its domestic total to $6.3 million.
