Rani Mukerji: Fans helped me survive prejudices a married actress with baby faces

Actress Rani Mukerji is grateful to her fans for not writing her off after she got married and had a baby, helping her evade the general perception that careers of married actresses slow down.

“Without my fans, I would not have been able to survive, especially with the kind of prejudices a married actress with a baby has to go through. The fact that they have supported me throughout is nothing short of a miracle and that’s why I’m still working and doing relevant work,” she claims.

The actress completes 25 years in the film industry this year.

“When I think of the number of years, it seems like a very long time but honestly for me it just seems like my journey has never stopped. It’s just gone on and on since the day I was 16 and I started working. Now, 25 years feels the same because the struggle is yet on, and the learning is still on as an actor. There is a lot that I have to accomplish, there is a lot that I have to learn,” she says.

She adds that she has discovered herself and her craft over the years.

“For an actor, learning never stops and the more experience I have with different directors, different technicians, different co-stars, I get to learn a lot. It still feels nice and I am raring to go because with each film, I kind of discover a new me and I love telling stories — important stories, powerful women stories,” she says.

The actress will next be seen in “Bunty Aur Babli 2” and “Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway”.

Himani Kapoor: Arijit Singh is always open to inputs and that sets him apart

Singer Himani Kapoor is excited about the reception her latest track, “Thode kam ajnabi” in the recently-released film “Pagglait”, has received. The 32-year-old shares she was thrilled to be part of an album that was being composed by Arijit Singh for the first time.

“On my birthday last year on August 24, I received a call from (music entrepreneur) Tarsim Mittal. That is when he told me that Arijit is making his debut as a music composer with Pagglait and he wanted me to sing one of the songs in the album. That was my best birthday gift and I was elated. I was thrilled because I loved the premise of the film and I thought it would be great to be associated with a woman-centric film,” she says.

Himani says that her first collaboration with Arijit was a rather special experience.

“It is always an amazing experience collaborating with artists with a similar creative bent of mind. We did a lot of jamming prior to recording the song. He let every singer and musician playing any instrument improvise. He is always open to inputs and that is what sets him apart. What is special about this song was we collaborated on it virtually and I recorded the song from my studio in Chandigarh. The entire song was made during a lockdown,” she informs.

“Arijit was on a live session and he was asked why he gave me the chance to sing this song. He said that only a ‘pagal’ girl can sing a song for the film ‘Pagglait’ and that was too funny! So, yes that’s my fondest memory with him,” Himani laughs and signs off.

Nagarjuna helped me overcome nervousness: Mayank Parakh

Actor Mayank Parakh, who will soon be seen in the Telugu film “Wild Dog” starring Akkineni Nagarjuna, says the superstar helped him shed the nervousness of working with him.

This is Mayank’s second Telugu film after a brief role in the Adivi Sesh-starrer “Goodachari”

Recalling the first time he met Nagarjuna, Mayank tells IANS: “When he came on the set for the first time and talked to me, I was tongue-tied. Then, when we started rehearsing, I forgot all the training for 60 days as I was nervous! It was Nagarjuna sir who helped me overcome my nervousness. He reminded me of the training we had for two months and spoke with me, which made me comfortable. After that, it was a cakewalk for me. We used to talk a lot in between the shots and Nagarjuna sir would talk about varied topics,” says Mayank, who plays the role of Caleb Mathews, a second-in-command to the lead character played by the Nagarjuna in the upcoming patriotic saga.

“Wild Dog” is based on the Hyderabad serial bomb blasts that rocked the city in 2007. For his role, Mayank had to lose weight to look the part in the Ashishor Solomon directorial.

“If I didn’t lose the extra weight in 75 days, he (Solomon) warned he would not give me the role. That proved to be a motivation for me and I threw myself into rigorous workouts, muscle building, and fat loss journeys. I trained for four hours every day. The whole team trained extensively for the action sequences and for me, the extensive sessions at the gym, the physiotherapy, the martial arts, and the body language training, in addition to the action sequences, often left me in a lot of pain!” recalled Mayank, who started his career in entertainment doing stand-up gigs in Hyderabad, and eventually landed a role in the web-series “Lakhon Mein Ek”.

“Wild Dog” also features Dia Mirza, Saiyami Kher, and Atul Kulkarni among others, and is set to release on April 2.

Ranveer Singh : Wanted to do something for fellow dreamers

Mumbai, March 31  Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is proud of how his music label IncInk has grown over the past two years. The actor, who started the initiative with Navzar Eranee, says he doesn’t want newcomers to go through what he experienced when he began his career as an actor.

“When I had decided to chase my dream of becoming an actor years ago, it wasn’t easy getting my foot in the door. I was fortunate enough to build my career through a combination of hard work, passion and self-belief. I told myself back then that when I become relatively successful, I will try and do something for my fellow dreamers. That’s when the germ of IncInk was sown in my head,” he says.

He adds that he is “blown away” by the talent he has seen so far.

“Today, I feel grateful to have been able to provide a platform to some outstanding new talents. I am blown away by the music that these brilliant young artistes have created, and I am continually impressed at their ability to express and create art that is disruptive,” he says.

The actor is especially proud of discovering some artists, such as Kaam Bhaari, Spitfire, Devil – The Rhymer, and SlowCheeta.

“They have evolved into serious musical prodigies of our generation who are now being appreciated far and wide. IncInk has tried to be a vehicle for their artistic growth, becoming the wind beneath the wings of these rare gems,” he says.

He wants to work on his label and make it a genre-fluid collective.

“Being fluid in this endeavour through genre music, video, visual art and experiences is what we do here. Ink is a beacon for artists. I would like it to be a lighthouse on the shore. If we can inspire something new, reach somebody unreachable and touch someone so they feel included, that would be fulfilling,” he says.

With this initiative, he urges budding artists not to give up.

“People who work just as hard, oftentimes don’t get that chance and may never get it. Mine was a million to one shot, I was prepared to risk it all and I found my opportunity. Even though I often felt discouraged I persevered. I just want to say if you don’t get it, if you fall, don’t stay down, get up, keep playing. Always be inspired to play. I want to lead by example. So, that’s what we will do through IncInk,” he says.

Navzar adds: “As an artist’s collective, we will not be limited to music releases, videos but we expand on to bigger visions being executed via — IP’s, products and collaborations. The future of IncInk is as an artist collective.”

‘Stand Up Rahul’ first look poster released

Hyderabad, March 31 (Telugu Bullet)   Popular Telugu actor Raj Tarun’s poster of his upcoming film Stand Up Rahul has just been released. The first-look poster sees Raj wearing a sad expression while sitting with wires tied around him. The actor is seen wearing shorts, canvas shoes, and a blue t-shirt with a ‘loading’ logo on it.

The first-look poster was launched by actor Samantha Akkineni on Twitter. “Mic testing 1..2..3… Check check.. @itsrajtarun Kurchundi Chalu!!! Presenting the Title & First Look of #StandUpRahulStudio Wishing outSTANDing success to this team! @VarshaBollamma @mohan_veeranki @SweekarAgasthi @SreerajRavee @sidhu_mudda @Nandu_Abbineni @bharath1985 (sic),” she tweeted.

The film, which revolves around a frustrated start-up employee who slowly becomes a stand-up comic, is written and directed by debutant Santosh Mohan Veeranki who has been continuously trying to take stand-up comedy to the Telugu audience. The film, which will have Middle-Class Melodies fame Varsha Bollamma as the female lead, will also have many real-life stand-up comics making their presence felt on-screen.

“I was actually prepared as I did a lot of groundwork. Like you don’t build an aeroplane without having every bit of the design worked out on paper. So, I followed the same principle and had every element of the film and how I visualise it on paper. That trick, though being a longer version, helped me a lot through the production phase,” says Santosh, who is also the founder of Tale Tellers Troupe India (TTTI).

The Hyderabadi debutant says it was wonderful working with Raj and Varsha. “They both understood the in and out about their respective roles and made the job way easier for me. They are natural actors and I didn’t have to struggle much about what I wanted for the scene. However, as I have several new faces from my Tale Tellers group and the stand-up comedy groups, it was a little difficult to make them act as they are all first-timers,” shares Santosh.
