Emma Watson on #BlackoutTuesday backlash

0

Actress Emma Watson has opened up about facing criticism for her tone deaf Black Lives Matter posts, and says she will use her platform to spread awareness about the cause.

It all started on Tuesday when she posted three blank black square posts on Instagram during a social media event, the aim of which was to raise awareness about the Black Lives Matter movement following the death of George Floyd, reports mirror.co.uk.

The actress was slammed for posting three images instead of one, with many social media users feeling she was paying more attention to the aesthetic of her Instagram page rather than the spirit of the protest.

Watson took to Instagram to address it, and said that she was still trying to learn about racism.

“There is so much racism, both in our past and present, that is not acknowledged nor accounted for. White supremacy is one of the systems of hierarchy and dominance, of exploitation and oppression, that is tightly stitched into society,” she wrote.

“As a white person, I have benefited from this. While we might feel that, as individuals, we’re working hard internally to be anti-racist, we need to work harder externally to actively tackle the structural and institutional racism around us. I’m still learning about the many ways I unconsciously support and uphold a system that is structurally racist,” the actress added.

Watson continued: “Over the coming days, I’ll be using my bio link and Twitter to share links to resources I’ve found useful for my own researching, learning, listening. I see your anger, sadness and pain. I cannot know what this feels like for you but it doesn’t mean I won’t try to.”

The Blackout Tuesday movement was formed to show solidarity with the campaign for justice following the death of George Floyd by sharing a single black square.

Floyd, aged 46, died last week after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, held him down with a knee on his neck though he repeatedly pleaded, “I can’t breathe”, and “please, I can’t breathe”. Chauvin has been arrested and charged with three-degree murder and manslaughter.

Like the police and other systems they’ve weaponized against us, the names of those they tried to silence go off in their ears like nuclear bombs. Balakrishna’s candid interview has many answers from Balayya

0

Balakrishna’s candid interview has many answers from Balayya but also left many questions in the end as the Nandamuri hero did not want to reveal names. Balayya at one moment said ‘give respect and take respect’ and ‘I never talk to them, I never respect them’. So who are those heroes who disrespected and ignored Balayya and what’s the story behind it?

In the interview when asked about multi-starrer plans, Balayya gave an apathetic look saying the idea would be better with smaller heroes. He also mentioned about few incidents where he approached two heroes and they never cared to respond, but again tried to invite him for their business events.

It is heard that Balakrishna approached two star heroes for ‘important’ roles in NTR biopic to represent two other great heroes of NTR’s era, but the latter two turned it down due to reasons only known to them. While Balakrishna played his father NTR, he is said to have made vain trials to bring on the ‘two’ heroes to do the same. The most anticipated movie too could not yield great results which also left Balayya more disgruntled for the ‘refusal’ from the two heroes, though it might to one of the reasons for the movie failure.

So, Balayya appeared to have lost interest for multi-starrer and he even agreed that there were bad multi-starrers NTR-ANR, concluding that a great story like Sholay or bigger could work. Balayya did not rule out a chance of a multi-starrer with Tarak or Kalyan Ram, but no one knows if that could happen.

18 crore worth village set in Gandipet for RRR

0

The name Rajamouli is synonymous with grandeur. Almost all his films, especially the VFX-filled magnum opuses like Magadheera and the Baahubali series, featured humongous sets that enhanced the visual appeal on the big screen.

Now that he has roped in two of the biggest Tollywood stars, NTR and Ram Charan, for RRR, can Rajamouli not erect grand sets? The fresh buzz in the T-town circles is that Rajamouli has got a massive Rs 18 crore worth village set in Gandipet, Hyderabad, for RRR.

A major part of the film’s shoot took place in this set and there is also a crucial month-long schedule that will take place here after the shooting resumes post lockdown. We will have to wait until next year to see what Rajamouli and his art department have in store for us.

Meera Chopra opens up on being threatened by Jr NTR’s fans

0

Actress Meera Chopra has become a target of abusive trolls after she unintentionally irked Telugu star Jr NTR’s fans.

On Tuesday, Meera conducted an interactive session where she was asked to give her views about Jr NTR.

“I don’t know him. I am not his fan,” Meera responded.

However, Meera’s response did not go down well with a section of social media users. They targeted her, abused her, trolled her and a few even gave her death threats.

Reacting to trolling, Meera said: “I conducted an ‘Ask Meera’ session on Twitter and a fan asked me about my favorite actor from the south film industry. I said Mahesh Babu. Then somebody asked if I liked Junior NTR, and I said I don’t know him and I’m not a fan. That’s it. As soon as I said that, I was bombarded with abuses, murder threats, rape threats, character assassination and threats against my parents. Some morphed my face with porn actors. I’ve got close to 30,000 abusive tweets so far.”

Meera is extremely angry to see such disgusting behavior of netizens.

She added: “Is there no freedom of choice and expression left in today’s social media world? How can it be a crime to not be somebody’s fan? We can’t possibly love everybody.

“I’ve been tagged a whore, porn star, bitch and whatnot for just expressing my opinion on not being a Junior NTR fan! It’s unfortunate. I’ve been given threats of gang rape, wishes that my parents die of Covid-19. Is this a civilized society? I am angry, but not scared. I’ve been constantly talking about women issues and here I face one myself,” she said.

Meera has also filed a cyber complaint against the abusive trollers.

“I am already in talks with the cyber cell team. I’ve always advocated that women should fight for themselves and stand against what’s wrong. Then how can I not do anything about this! You cannot character assassinate women, give threats, and abuse her for sharing her choice. I have to raise my voice against such fan clubs. These are the kind of people who go out and commit rapes and murders.

“I feel sad for such stars who have such twisted fan base, is this what stardom is? I think a star should address such fan clubs and insist that they refrain from such hooliganism. But they don’t do that. Their fans are openly discussing gang rapes and murders and they also use their DPs, but stars just stay quiet,” Meera concluded.

Meera is best known for her role in the legal drama “Section 375”.
