Two short-range ballistic missiles are fired by North Korea
North Korea has launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, likely in protest against joint military exercises conducted by South Korea and the United States, according to the South Korean government.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) reported that the missile launches occurred in the vicinity of Sunan, Pyongyang, between approximately 11:40 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday night. Each missile traveled about 360 kilometers before landing in the water. Intelligence agencies from both countries are conducting further analysis. The JCS strongly condemned these launches, describing them as “significant acts of provocation” that not only undermine peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula but also in the international community.
On the previous day, the allies conducted joint air drills, which included the participation of at least one US B-1B strategic bomber, over the Yellow Sea. These exercises were part of the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise that began on August 21 and was scheduled to conclude on Thursday.
