On Monday, actress Rashmika Mandanna responded strongly to a deepfake video that went viral and included her face overlaid on another woman’s body. She argued for the video’s creators to be held accountable.
Zara Patel, a British-Indian social media star, was shown in the original footage inside an elevator while sporting a black exercise onesie. Artificial intelligence (AI) was used to alter Zara’s visage in the viral video such that it resembles Rashmika.
“I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online,” posted Rashmika Mandanna on her Instagram story. Since technology is being overused these days, not only me terrified of anything like this, but I think this is terrifying for all of us as well.
When Abhishek, a fact-checker on AI, noted that the video was a scam, he not only raised alerts but also given an explanation of how it was made. Amitabh Bachchan tweeted after seeing the video and that there was a “strong case for legal [action].”
In the footage, a lady who strikingly resembles Rashmika Mandanna is seen boarding an elevator. As Zara Patel, an Indian-British woman, released the original video on October 9, it is actually a modified version. The scammers’ identities and motives are still a mystery.
