American rapper Lil TJay was one of two people shot in New Jersey early Wednesday morning, just weeks after declaring it was going to be “a good summer.”

According to mypost.com, the Bronx-born rapper was struck multiple times at The Promenade in Edgewater. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said cops responded to reports of shots fired at the location just after midnight.

When they arrived, they discovered 21-year-old Lil TJay, whose real name is Tione Marriot, with multiple gunshot wounds. Antoine Boyd, 22, was also found with a single gunshot wound, officials said.

Both were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Officials said the shooting happened after Mohamed Konate tried to rob Lil TJay, Boyd, and a third person the rapper was with, 24-year-old Jeffrey Valdez.

Both Valdez and Boyd each had an unlawful weapon on them at the time.

Konate was arrested later on Wednesday by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the New York Police Department. His extradition to New Jersey is currently pending, officials said, reports nypost.com.

He’s charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of armed robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree aggravated assault.

Boyd and Valdez were both charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and were being held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack awaiting an initial hearing.

Lil Tjay is a Bronx-born rapper with over 7 million followers on Instagram. He rose to fame on Soundcloud and was signed by Columbia Records in 2018. His debut album, ‘True 2 Myself’ peaked at No. 5 on the US Billboard 200.

Reports said after the owner of the houseboat, Muhammad Yusuf, noticed that the houseboat was sinking, he and his family members quickly evacuated the seven tourists without caring for their own safety.

Ranji Trophy Final: Sarfaraz Khan slams stunning century; takes Mumbai to 351/8

0

Sarfaraz Khan’s run-making juggernaut continued with his fourth century of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, taking Mumbai to 351/8 in 122 overs at lunch on day two of the final against Madhya Pradesh at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.

After being watchful on day one, Sarfaraz stood firm on day two and was rewarded for his perseverance with an unbeaten 119, which also marked the second time he crossed the 900+ runs mark in a Ranji Trophy season after amassing 928 runs in 2019/20 season, becoming just the third batter after Ajay Sharma and Wasim Jaffer to do so.

Resuming from 248/5 on day one, Mumbai lost Shams Mulani on just the second ball of the day when pacer Gaurav Yadav got one to jag back in and trap him plumb lbw. Sarfaraz first showed signs of shedding his cautious self when he sliced Gaurav over a backward point for a boundary.

With Gaurav and Anubhav Agarwal keeping things tight, Sarfaraz was unable to get his shots and was stuck on 45 for long. As soon as left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya Singh got into the attack, Sarfaraz opened up by nailing a sweep over mid-wicket and reached his fifty with a single through the same region.

Sarfaraz continued to nail his sweep against Kartikeya while timing his straight-down-the-ground drives. Though Gaurav took out Tanush Kotian’s off-stump with a peach of a delivery and Dhawal Kulkarni nicked to the keeper off Anubhav Agarwal, Sarfaraz continued to march forward despite having a nasty collision with Gaurav. He even brought out the ramp shot against Anubhav, with the ball going over the keeper and slipping for a cheeky boundary.

Sarfaraz then reached his century in 190 balls by driving Kartikeya down the ground to complete a superb knock under pressure. His celebrations on reaching the three-figure mark ranged from being teary-eyed and punching the air in delight to bringing out the kabaddi thigh-five, met with thunderous cheers from the Mumbai camp and a limited number of spectators in the stadium.

After reaching the century, Sarfaraz continued to attack Kartikeya, slog-sweeping him for a six-over deep mid-wicket and was followed by Tushar Deshpande slamming a boundary down the ground as Mumbai fetched 103 runs in the session.

Brief scores: Mumbai 351/8 in 122 overs (Sarfaraz Khan 119 not out, Yashasvi Jaiswal 78; Anubhav Agarwal 3/81, Saransh Jain 2/31) against Madhya Pradesh

Shocking comments by producer Bandla Ganesh on Mahesh Babu rile fans

0

Actor-producer Bandla Ganesh attended the ‘Chor Bazaar’ pre-release event on Wednesday night to support Akash Puri but ended up making shocking remarks that have offended Mahesh Babu’s fans.

Bandla Ganesh mentioned that he is proud of Akash Puri, a promising actor and the son of Puri Jagannadh, whom he predicted would one day become a celebrity. The producer of the super hit movie ‘Gabbar Singh’ said, “He was born to be a star,” as he referred to Akash Puri.

However, in his overzealous attempt to support the ‘Romantic’ hero Akash Puri, Bandla wound up alienating Mahesh Babu’s followers.

“I anticipated that the performers who rose to fame thanks to Puri Jagannadh would support Akash Puri’s film. But they seem to be busy, realizing that they would be in danger if Akash becomes famous,” Ganesh pointed, as he remarked at Mahesh Babu whose career was boosted after Puri Jagannadh’s directorial ‘Pokiri’.

Well, Mahesh Babu’s supporters were definitely offended by these comments and rushed to social media to criticize Bandla Ganesh.

“Why on earth did you even mention an actor in the most absurd way? Why don’t you keep to yourself?” a user on the Internet written about Bandla Ganesh.

“Mahesh is an icon. Unlike you, who go around criticizing other performers and celebrities, he is busy,” said one of Mahesh’s admirers.

Although it is clear that Bandla Ganesh purposefully used harsh language at the event to attract attention, industry insiders don’t seem to be as interested in the producer’s subsequent controversies anymore.

The UK detects polio virus in London sewage samples

0

Health officials in the UK have found poliovirus in sewage samples in London, 19 years after it was eliminated in 2003.

According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the poliovirus in sewage samples collected from the London Beckton Sewage Treatment Works was probably imported to London by someone who was recently vaccinated overseas with a live form of the virus.

The virus has continued to evolve and is now classified as a ‘vaccine-derived’ poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2), which on rare occasions can cause serious illness, such as paralysis, in people who are not fully vaccinated.

However, the virus has only been detected in sewage samples and no associated cases of paralysis have been reported in the country, the UKHSA said.

It added that further investigations are going on to establish if any community transmission is occurring.

Yet the officials said vaccine-derived poliovirus is rare and the risk to the public overall is extremely low.

“Vaccine-derived poliovirus has the potential to spread, particularly in communities where vaccine uptake is lower. On rare occasions it can cause paralysis in people who are not fully vaccinated,” said Vanessa Saliba, Consultant Epidemiologist at UKHSA, in a statement.

She also urged people to be up to date with polio vaccinations, especially parents of young children who may have missed an immunization opportunity.

Further, the agency said detection of a VDPV2 suggests it is likely there has been some spread between closely-linked individuals in North and East London and that they are now shedding the type 2 poliovirus strain in their feces.

Several closely-related viruses were also found in sewage samples taken between February and May.

The UK was declared polio-free in 2003. The last case of wild polio contracted in the UK was confirmed in 1984.

Massive traffic jam in Chennai leads to delay in AIADMK general council meet

0

The general council meeting of the opposition AIADMK, which was to commence at 10 a.m. at the Srivari Kalyana Mandapam at Vanagaram, was delayed due to heavy traffic jams.

AIADMK sources told IANS that the meeting will now commence only at 11 a.m.

Traffic came to a standstill for nearly 5 km surrounding the Srivari Kalyana Mandapam at Vanagaram and vehicles were moving at a snail’s pace.

Both the party coordinator O. Panneerselvam, and joint coordinator K. Palaniswami were stuck in the traffic. Sources told IANS that an ambulance was also stuck in a traffic jam at Aminjikarai near the hall where the meeting was to be held.

Office goers and school children also got stuck in the traffic that was moving at a snail’s pace.

The AIADMK general council meeting to be held in Chennai is happening in the midst of a controversy over the Palaniswami group trying to take over the party by amending the by-law and opting for a single leadership for the party.

Palaniswami was emerging as a single leader of the party and becoming the AIADMK general secretary, but a division bench of the Madras High Court in a late-night hearing at 2.40 a.m. on Thursday restrained the general council from amending any by-law much to the relief of the Panneerselvam faction.

Benedict Cumberbatch opens up on playing different versions of Doctor Strange

0

English star Benedict Cumberbatch has talked about playing various versions of his beloved character Doctor Strange in ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’. He called it odd as stand-ins or stunt doubles were used as a “sort of markers”.

While playing different versions of Doctor Strange was exciting for Cumberbatch, he also admitted that it was challenging.

“I literally have one scene with another version of myself, a very crucial scene near the end, where we meet Sinister Strange, as we nicknamed him. It’s complicated. It’s hard. It’s a very odd day at the office.

“You’re working with somebody else’s stand-in or a stunt double. And you’re having to remember your performance even though you’re using them as a sort of marker for where they are, where you were. It’s very odd. But it’s something through the post and everything else that we’ve managed to finesse and get right. And it’s fun,” said Cumberbatch.

Directed by Sam Raimi, the film is a sequel to 2016’s ‘Doctor Strange’, which introduced Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange aka Doctor Strange. In the film, Doctor Strange’s new adventure begins when Cumberbatch meets America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a unique teenager who can open doorways from one universe to the other.

Along with Benedict Cumberbatch and Xochitl Gomez, ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’ features an ensemble cast including Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Sheila Atim, Adam Hugill with Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
