Sri Lanka’s forthcoming tour of Pakistan, which is set to mark the first Tests played in the nation since a terrorist attack on Sri Lanka’s player’s bus in 2009, is set to go ahead as intended.
Whether the series would occur had been called into question after Sri Lanka cricket Board called for a reconsideration of the situation in Pakistan, but subsequent assurances from the Pakistan government, SLC have said they are pleased for the tour to continue.
The calls for a re-examination came soon after Sri Lanka announced their ODI and T20I sides to tour Pakistan, which barred 10 players who refused to tour the nation due to concerns over their security. However, the Major General J.R. Kulathunga, Sri Lanka’s national intelligence head, that no information had been received by the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka’s High Commission in Pakistan demonstrating a threat.
The assurances from the Pakistan government comprise that the Pakistan army will organize the security the preparations, and that the level of protection will be corresponding to that received by a head of state.
The ODI series will undergo from 27 September at Karachi.
