Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Apple Music is officially making its way to PlayStation 5 following months of speculation.

Now, PlayStation users with an Apple Music subscription will be able to stream music directly from their PlayStation 5.

“PS5 users with an Apple Music subscription can enjoy more than 90 million songs from Apple Music, tens of thousands of curated playlists, music videos in 4K, Apple Music Radio streaming today’s hits, classics, and country live, and personalised playlists based on your music preferences,” the firm said in a statement.

PS5 users can either start the Apple Music app before hopping into a game, or during gameplay by pressing the PS button on the DualSense wireless controller to access the Control Center and select the Music Function card.

From there, Apple Music subscribers can find recommendations that match the game they are currently playing, or choose from a playlist in their library or other Apple Music-curated playlists for gaming.

Apple Music subscribers can also find and watch music videos from a wide selection of artists in the Apple Music app.

To get started, PS5 owners can download the Apple Music app from the Media space on PS5, and follow the on-screen instructions to link their Apple Music account.

Apple Music service is already available on a number of other devices, including Samsung Smart TVs, Google Next and Android.

In India, the PlayStation 5 costs Rs 49,990 for the normal edition while the digital edition comes for Rs 39,990.

The PS5 Digital edition is effectively identical to the PS5, with all of the same processing power as the disc drive-equipped version.

In its latest earnings report, the company revealed that PlayStation Plus has 47.7 million subscribers globally, a 14.7 per cent increase (year-on-year).

Samsung logs record sales, 2nd-highest operating profit in Q3

0

Samsung Electronics on Thursday reported strong third-quarter earnings on the continued robust performance of its key semiconductor business.

Its net profit rose 31.3 per cent from a year earlier to 12.29 trillion won ($10.5 billion) in the July-September period, the world’s largest memory chip and smartphone vendor said in a regulatory filing.

Operating profit jumped 28 per cent in the third quarter to 15.82 trillion won, the largest since the third quarter of 2018 and the second-highest ever. Sales hit a quarterly record of 73.98 trillion won, up from 66.96 trillion won from a year earlier, reports Yonhap news agency.

On a quarterly basis, Samsung’s operating profit was up 26 per cent from the second quarter, and sales were up 10 per cent.

The company’s strong performance was powered largely by its chip business that has continued to show solid growth, with rising memory chip prices, enhanced yield rates and improved profitability at its chip contract manufacturing business.

Its mobile business gained new momentum with the August launch of two new foldable smartphones — Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. The weak Korean won also contributed to the company’s top and bottom lines.

An expected fall in memory chip prices amid slower demand for IT products, as countries have moved to lift pandemic restrictions, however, could weigh on the company’s earnings in the fourth quarter.

Industry tracker TrendForce predicted DRAM prices to fall by 15 to 20 per cent annually in the fourth quarter and enter a downward trend early next year, as the supply is expected to outstrip demand.

The company said strong DRAM demand and an improved foundry business led to a “significant improvement in earnings” in the memory business.

Operating profit from the semiconductor unit stood at 10.6 trillion won in the third quarter, more than double the 5 trillion won a year ago. The figure took up 64 per cent of the company’s third-quarter operating profit.

“The overall price situation remained favorable and the company set a new record for quarterly bit shipments and the second-highest revenue for DRAM, backed in particular by significant growth in server sales,” the company said.

While the component supply issue and its potential disruption in set builds still remain a major concern, the company expected demand for servers to stay solid in the fourth quarter thanks to “the new CPU adoption and expansion of data center investments”.

Samsung’s IT and Mobile Communications division racked up revenue of 28.42 trillion won. Operating profit was 3.36 trillion won.

Samsung’s display panel business continued to heavily contribute in the third quarter, with sales and operating profit reaching 8.86 trillion won and 1.49 trillion won, respectively.

La Liga: Osasuna hold Real Madrid to goalless draw

0

Real Madrid moved to the top of La Liga on goal difference from Sevilla, Real Betis, and Real Sociedad despite being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Osasuna on Wednesday night.

In the first 45 minutes, Real Madrid were limited by a serious defensive display by Osasuna’s back five, and an insistence on constantly looking for Vinicius Jr as their main attacking outlet.

Jon Moncayola hit the post for Osasuna four minutes after the restart after good work from Chimy Avila, while at the other end, Karim Benzema smacked a curling shot against the woodwork.

Real Madrid continued to attack down the wings in the second half, but every ball they sent into the Osasuna penalty area was repelled by the visitors’ rock-solid defense, and although Marcelo and Casemiro both went close in the final minutes, Osasuna claimed a point to show their current sixth place is no fluke.

Real Sociedad will return to the top if they take a point from their visit to Celta Vigo on Thursday, reports Xinhua.

FC Barcelona suffered another defeat as they went down 1-0 to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night.

Radamel Falcao’s 30th-minute goal separated the two sides as Barca tried but failed to find an equalizer in the second half, with Memphis Depay seeing a 71st-minute penalty well saved by Rayo keeper Stole Dimitrievski, who also claimed the rebound.

Sergio Aguero, Gavi, and Luuk de Jong all went close for Barca, but KRonald oeman’s side failed to find an equalizer and have not won any of their last five away games this season.

Sevilla thought that Lucas Ocampos had scored a late winner to overturn Antonio Sanchez’s first-half opener for Real Mallorca.

However, his strike was ruled offside and the two teams shared the points with Erik Lamela’s powerful shot leveling for Sevilla 15 minutes from time.

Real Betis are also right in the battle for the top four after thrashing Valencia 4-1. Borja Iglesias put Betis 2-0 ahead, and although Gabriel Paulista’s 39th-minute goal gave Valencia brief hope, second-half strikes from German Pezzella and Juanmi rounded off a comfortable win for Betis.

Valencia have taken just three points from their last seven matches, and with games against Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad on the horizon, Jose Bordalas needs to see a rapid improvement.

Atletico and Real Sociedad both play on Thursday, while Tuesday saw Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao draw 1-1, while Alaves beat Elche 1-0 and Villarreal and Cadiz drew 3-3.

T20 World Cup: Delighted Namibia hoping for more success

0

Namibia were expectedly nervous as they lined up for their first Super 12 match against Scotland in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. But at the end of the match, the players were over the moon as the team registered a morale-boosting victory against Scotland.

Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus said his players were delighted for getting another World Cup win after having come through the first round with two wins.

“Delighted to get another World Cup win, we were emotional coming from the first group and we managed to put in another good performance. We’ll be taking some good momentum and energy into the other games,” Erasmus said after the match.

Rubel Trumpelmann’s triple strikes in the opening over followed by an unbeaten 32 from JJ Smit led the way for Namibia to defeat Scotland by four wickets in a Group 2 match.

Trumpelmann claimed 3/17 as Namibia restricted Scotland for 108 and then Smit played his hand as they chased down the target with four wickets to spare.

Asked what he told his players during the break between the two innings as they got ready for the chase, Erasmus said they were not big talkers during the break.

“We speak more beforehand than try and speak during the game (innings break), with that score we had a clear gameplan and luckily with two partnerships we got over the line,” said Erasmus.

The skipper was delighted by the performance of Trumpelmann. “Ruben sets high standards for himself, he hadn’t quite hit the straps earlier. But today he did and he started off well for us to throw the first punch,” he said,

Namibia had a fantastic start as George Munsey chopped on his stumps off Trumpelmann on the first ball of the innings. Trumpelmann then made back-to-back strikes on the fourth and fifth ball of the innings. While Calum MacLeod nicked one behind, stand-in captain Richie Berrington was trapped lbw to a full in-swinger.

Trumpelmann hoped they could manage a few more wins in the tournament. “Good result and hopefully we can get a few more. Luckily it went my way today. The victory is for the team and it’s massive for us.”

It was Namibia’s first-ever win in the Super 12 stage of the mega event, going ahead of India and New Zealand while Scotland remain at the bottom of the points table for Group 2.

Instagram starts rolling out new ‘Link Stickers’ to all users

0

Facebook-owned Instagram has announced that all users now have access to its Link Sticker feature in Insta Stories.

Link stickers are now available to all users regardless of verification status or number of followers.

“We made this decision based on feedback we heard from the community about how impactful it would be for creators and businesses of all sizes to benefit from link sharing to grow in the same way larger accounts do,” Instagram said in a statement.

You can access the feature by selecting the sticker tool from the top navigation bar when you capture or upload content to your Story.

After selecting the “Link Sticker”, you can add your chosen link and then tap “Done”. From there, you can place the sticker anywhere on your Story and tap on it to see the other colour variations.

New accounts and accounts that repeatedly share things like hate speech and misinformation, or other content that violates Instagram’s Community Guidelines will not have access to the Link sticker.

Instagram earlier said that the decision to expand Link Sticker access to everyone had to be made carefully, as it could impact the app’s integrity and safety.

Meanwhile, Instagram is also testing new tools to make it easier for creators to earn money through its service.

The app is now testing affiliate shops, a feature it first previewed at its Creator Week event in June, and a dedicated “partnerships” inbox

Affiliate shops are an extension of Facebook’s existing shopping features, which are already widely available. But the latest version of the storefronts allows creators to link to products that are already part of their affiliate arrangements.

West Indies, who had lost both their matches in the event so far suffered the setback when the 24-year-old McCoy picked up an injury in the loss to England.

T20 World Cup: England’s Roy credits working ‘hell of a lot’ against Dawson for improved spin game

0

England opener Jason Roy has credited working “hell of a lot” with reserve player Liam Dawson on improving his game against left-arm spin while guiding England to an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Sheikh Zayed Stadium here on Wednesday.

Roy was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for his knock of 61 off 38 balls laced with five fours and three sixes.

“As a batsman, as a cricketer, you always have some darker thoughts going into your mind before the game: What if; this can happen; this can happen. But you just have to remind yourself that your training has been so good. I worked a hell of a lot against Liam Dawson in the nets. He’s been bowling so much to me which has really helped my game. So, I’ve just got to keep reminding myself to do what I do in training, and things will be alright,” said Roy in the post-match press conference.

“I think it’s an area of my game I’ve been working extremely hard on on slow pitches against left arm spinners, spinners, and the angle as such. It was a big game for me to go out there today and put all the hard work I’ve been doing into the nets into play. Credit to the bowlers but still, to knock it off, but yeah, very pleased,” added Roy, who made his 50th T20I appearance memorable.

Roy was in praise of hard-hitting batter Liam Livingstone, who scalped the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim and Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah with his part-time off-spin, thereby stalling their recovery march. “He’s been working extremely hard. It’s been great having Moeen and Rash on the side as well, and he learns a lot from them and Jeetan Patel, our spin coach, as well, has been giving him some words of wisdom.”

“It’s paying off for him. He’s doing extremely well for us and holding up an average is extremely positive. Especially as the tournament goes on where the pitches might get a little bit harder against spin, who knows, he might have more of a role to play.”

The 31-year-old was appreciative of pacer Chris Woakes, who bowled a tight spell of 1/12, keeping Bangladesh on a tight leash in power-play. “His line and length has been perfect from ball one. On these sorts of pitches as well, that sort of line, that sort of length, it’s incredibly hard to get away as an opening batter. So, he’s running it in and keeping it nice and simple for us and doing an incredible job.”

“Take nothing away from the bowlers. I don’t think we took too much of a foot wrong. We took our catches and fielded and bowled really well. It was a pitch that was on the slow side, and if you bowled straight and on a good length, it was quite hard to get away. We got off to a great start with the bats and then just capitalized on a lower total,” concluded Roy.
