Congress to raise Pegasus issue in winter session: Rahul Gandhi

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that the party will raise the Pegasus snooping issue in Parliament during winter session which is likely to commence in November last week.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Delhi, he asked who “authorised” pegasus to spy and the party will be raising the issue in Parliament and will try for a discussion in the House.

After the Supreme Court on Wednesday set up a three-member committee to probe the Pegasus spyware snooping allegations, the Congress has welcomed the decision and said that the government was evading and diverting the issue. The Congress had been on the forefront demanding enquiry into the snoopgate.

The committee set up by the Supreme Court will be supervised by a retired top court judge Justice R.V. Raveendran, who will be assisted by Alok Joshi, former IPS officer and Dr Sundeep Oberoi. The Centre had argued that disclosing the details on the use of Pegasus spyware involves national security issues, as it refused to divulge any details. The top court, in its judgment, said mere raising national security by state would not stop it from taking up the issue, and emphasized that national security can’t be a bug bear and refused to accept the omnibus denial by the Centre. The bench noted that the Centre filed a limited affidavit, which didn’t make anything clear despite it repeatedly saying that the court is not concerned with issues of national security.

The former Congress President also raised the issue of inflation and said that in GDP (Gas, Diesel and Petrol), the government is earning huge amount of money and it’s a direct attack on the consumer as it affects directly and indirectly as it also increases inflation.

As the festival of lights Diwali is approaching, the fans are expecting a promo or a song release. As the earlier released promos had become viral, creating much hype around the Telugu remake of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ so there are reports that suggest a brand new promo from the team.

The title song ‘Bheemla Nayak’ was an instant chartbuster, as it became one of the most famous songs in the Telugu states after its release. The second single ‘Antha Ishtam’ crooned by K.S. Chitra is also lauded by music lovers. If not a promo, the makers plan to release another song from ‘Bheemla Nayak’.

As per the initial schedule, the original dates allotted by Pawan Kalyan have passed, as the actor tested positive for Covid. It seems like the makers are facing issues to wrap the shooting soon, with Pawan Kalyan juggling between his political schedule and the movie shootings.

Suriya on ‘Jai Bhim’ character: Justice Chandru has not charged a penny

With the upcoming courtroom drama ‘Jai Bhim’ gearing up for its release, actor Suriya who plays an advocate in this movie, talks about the inspiration behind his role.

‘Justice Chandru’ in ‘Jai Bhim’ is a rebel, who strives to bring justice to the downtrodden people of society. Suriya explains that he felt responsible as he took up the role of such a person. “It brings me so much satisfaction along with the responsibility to choose such roles in my movies. As a pan-India movie, I am glad the tale is being reachable at a higher spectrum”, Suriya said.

Explaining his character in ‘Jai Bhim’, the actor said, “In most of the human rights cases that Chandru sir has taken up, he has not charged a penny. Not just Chandru sir, there are so many people in our judicial system who have done such things. All of their stories are to be heard, as they give us hope for a better world,” Suriya said.

On being quizzed about what the makers are trying to convey, when Tamil movies like ‘Asuran’ and ‘Kaala’ have already highlighted such points earlier. “It is the director’s conviction that ‘Jai Bhim’ has turned out the way it is. Though there are movies addressing the stereotypical ideologies around the subaltern culture, this particular story needs that hype. Being an advocate, Justice Chandru used the law as a weapon to bring back the rights of many,” Suriya replied.

‘Jai Bhim’ is slated for release on November 2 and would be streamed on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Uber aims for 50,000 Teslas on its platform by 2023

Ride-hailing company Uber is acquiring 50,000 Tesla vehicles to rent to its drivers as part of an ambitious plan to electrify its fleet in the US by 2030.

The ride-hailing company is working with US-based rental car company Hertz, which announced that it had ordered 100,000 Tesla vehicles.

The move comes as car companies and transportation providers around the world are coming under regulatory pressure to phase out gas-powered vehicles in favour of those that produce zero emissions, reports The Verge.

California, the largest auto market in the US, set in place rules for ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft, requiring that 90 per cent of their fleets be electric by 2030.

Uber has long offered discounts on car rentals to drivers who don’t own their own vehicle, with Uber and Hertz working together on such a programme since 2016.

But they have never collaborated to rent out one specific vehicle to drivers until now, the report said.

Starting November 1, Uber drivers who live in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Washington, DC can rent a Tesla Model 3 through Hertz at a rate of $334 a week, including maintenance and insurance.

The weekly rate will fall to $299 or lower as the programme gets underway, Uber says. And the programme will expand nationwide in the weeks to come — to have all 50,000 Teslas on Uber’s platform by 2023.

It may be difficult to attract drivers to the programme with a weekly rate of $334, but Uber is confident that drivers will see the benefit in fuel savings and less maintenance.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk-run electric car company has hit the $1 trillion market cap for the first time.

Tesla becomes the fifth US company to join the $1 trillion club, after Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet.

Its stock soared to a new record-high after it crossed $950 during the trading — up more than 9 per cent.

The rally came after the US-based rental car company Hertz said it has ordered 100,000 Tesla vehicles (worth at least $4.2 billion) by the end of 2022 as part of an ambitious plan to electrify its fleet.

The move includes a new EV charging infrastructure across the company’s global operations.

PM Modi has given a ‘human angle’ to GDP: Amit Shah

0

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a ‘human angle’ to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) keeping the poor at the forefront.

Delivering a lecture at a conference on ‘Delivering Democracy: Reviewing two decades of Narendra Modi as head of the government’ organised by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, Shah said the GDP must grow but its beneficiary should be the poor and the needy, adding that the Prime Minister’s reforms have always been based on the needs of the poor.

Describing Modi as the best Prime Minister after independence, the Union Home Minister said houses for the poor were built earlier, too, but Modi has changed the scale of the policy.

“Two crore people have also been provided houses and I assure you that by August 15, 2022, every poor will have a house,” Shah added.

Toilets have empowered women across the country, and providing water to every household will further improve the health of all Indians, he said.

Pointing to Modi’s agricultural reforms, Shah said the previous governments chose the path of loan waivers but under Modiji’s leadership, Rs 6,000 are deposited into farmers’ accounts which help pay their input costs as there are 60 per cent marginal farmers and this amount is enough for the input cost of his agricultural activities.

Pointing out that the Prime Minister brought in governance reforms which are about transforming the ground reality and not superficial administrative changes, the Minister said for the first time a separate security policy was formulated under Modi’s leadership and he differentiated the security policy from the shadow of the foreign policy.

After 2014, the Prime Minister took various bold decisions like demonetisation, abolition of Triple Talaq and One rank One Pension for the benefit of the defence forces, Shah added,

After 2019, when people of the country elected Modi for a second term, he announced the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A from Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to International Yoga day, Shah said under his leadership and policy, 177 countries in the world decided to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day every year.

Shah referred to the Ujjwala Yojana, clean drinking water to every household, 100 per cent electrification of villages across the country, Ayushman Bharat health card to seven crore people. The Home Minister said the country has recently touched the 100 crore vaccination mark under Modi’s leadership.

Keeping in view the new challenges in all fields, the Prime Minister brought a separate drone policy, space policy, and merged green, blue and white revolutions into one integrated policy for agriculture.

You can ask Google to remove images of minors from Search

Tech giant Google has launched a new safety tool that lets teenagers, their parents/guardians and legal representatives request the removal of images of under-18s from the Search results.

Google said that it will remove images of anyone below the age of 18 from search results at the request of the individual under 18 or their parent or guardian, with the exception of cases of compelling public interest or newsworthiness.

“This means these images won’t appear in the Images tab or as thumbnails in any feature in Google Search,” the company said on its updated help page.

Google said that it can prevent an image from appearing in its search results, but can’t remove it from websites that host it.

“This is why you might wish to contact the site’s webmaster and ask them to remove the content,” the company informed.

The feature was originally announced in August (along with new restrictions of ad targeting of minors) and is now widely available.

Applicants will need to supply the URLs of images they want to be removed from search results, the search terms that surface those images, the name and age of the minor and the name and relationship of the individual that might be acting on their behalf — a parent or guardian, for example.

It won’t comply with requests unless the person in the image is currently under 18. “So, if you’re 30, you can’t apply to remove pictures of you when you were 15”.

Google already offers other tools for requesting the removal of specific types of harmful content like non-consensual explicit imagery, fake pornography, financial or medical information, and “doxxing

‘Ghani Anthem’ matches the spirit of sports drama

Upcoming Telugu movie ‘Ghani’ is a sports drama starring Varun Tej in the role of a kickboxer. The ‘Ghani Anthem’ is the first single to be released from the movie.

S.S. Thaman is the music director, while the song ‘Ghani Anthem’ is rendered by Adita Iyenger, Sri Krishna, and Prudhvi Chandra. The lyrics are penned by Ramjogayya Sastry. ‘Ghani Anthem’ is an inspirational song, and the lyrics do give out that energy.

This song is said to amplify the hype around the sports drama. Varun Tej’s transformation is visible through the lyrics.

Producers Allu Bobby and Sidhu Mudda recently announced the release date of ‘Ghani’, and it is to hit the screens on December 3. Starring Saiee Manjrekar as the heroine, the film has Jagapathi Babu, Upendra, Suniel Shetty, and Naveen Chandra in key roles. Cinematography is by George C. Williams, and editing by Marthand K. Google to let you request to remove images from search results

Tech giant Google has launched a new safety feature that lets under-18s request the removal of images of themselves from the company’s search results.

According to The Verge, the feature was originally announced in August (along with new restrictions of ad targeting of minors) but is now widely available.

Anyone can start the removal process from this help page, the report said.

Applicants will need to supply the URLs of images they want to be removed from search results, the search terms that surface those images, the name and age of the minor and the name and relationship of the individual that might be acting on their behalf — a parent or guardian, for example.

The company notes it will remove images of any minors “with the exception of cases of compelling public interest or newsworthiness”.

It also seems from Google’s language that it won’t comply with requests unless the person in the image is currently under 18.

So, if you’re 30, you can’t apply to remove pictures of you when you were 15, the report said.

That limits the scope of the tool to prevent abuse or harassment, but it presumably makes the process of verification much easier. It’s hard to prove what age you are in any given photo as opposed to proving how old you are right now.

Google also stresses that removing an image from its search results does not, of course, remove it from the web.

In addition to these new removal options for images of minors, Google already offers other avenues for requesting the removal of specific types of harmful content.

These include non-consensual explicit imagery, fake pornography, financial or medical information, and “doxxing” information including home addresses and phone numbers.

41 bn cyber threats blocked, India 2nd on global ransomware list

Around 40.9 billion email threats, malicious files and URLs were blocked in the first half of 2021 for its customers by global cybersecurity leader Trend Micro and in India, it blocked a total number of 1,11,028 email spam, malicious URLs and malware, the company said on Wednesday.

Globally, ransomware remained the top threat in the first half of the year and in India, the total ransomware threats stood at 12.98 per cent, the second highest in Asia after China.

Working with third parties to gain access to targeted networks, the cyber criminals used advanced persistent threat tools and techniques to steal and encrypt victims’ data, the findings showed.

“The first step towards effectively mitigating cyber risk is understanding the scale, complexity, and specific characteristics of the threat landscape,” said Vijendra Katiyar, Country Manager, India and SAARC, Trend Micro.

Cryptocurrency miners became the most detected malware, having surged ahead of WannaCry and web shells in recent months, the report said.

The banking industry was disproportionately affected, experiencing a 1,318 per cent (year-on-year) increase in ransomware attacks in the first half of 2021, globally.

The total number of online banking malware detected by Trend Micro in India was 4,497 in the first six months of 2021.

Business email compromise (BEC) attacks increased by 4 per cent, potentially as a result of new Covid-19 opportunities for threat actors.

The ‘Zero Day Initiative’ detected 770 vulnerabilities, a slight (2 per cent) drop from 1H 2020 and a total of 164 malicious apps related to Covid-19 scams were detected, 54 per cent of which impersonated Chinese short-video making app TikTok.

“As threats continue to increase in frequency and sophistication, enterprise security operation centre (SOC) teams will require a platform that can streamline security processes without sacrificing reliability,” the report suggested.
