Facebook plans to rebrand company with new name: Report

0

Social media giant Facebook is reportedly planning to rebrand the company with a new name that focuses on the metaverse.

According to a source with direct knowledge of the matter, Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg is expected to announce the name at the company’s Connect conference on October 28, reports The Verge.

As per report, the rebrand would likely position the Facebook app as one of the many products under a parent company overseeing groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and more.

Facebook first announced its plans to build out the metaverse — a term used to describe virtual, interactive spaces in the digital world — last month.

Facebook earlier this month announced to hire 10,000 people to help the social network build the metaverse — a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences using technologies like virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR).

According to the company, the next computing platform has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social and economic opportunities.

“We are announcing a plan to create 10,000 new high-skilled jobs within the European Union (EU) over the next five years,” said Nick Clegg, VP Global Affair at Facebook.

“Beyond emerging tech talent, the EU also has an important role to play in shaping the new rules of the Internet,” he said.

Facebook in September announced that it will invest $50 million to partner with the organisation to responsibly build the metaverse.

The “metaverse” is a set of virtual spaces where one can create and explore with other people who aren’t in the same physical space.

Zuckerberg in 2004 said that the key to Facebook’s future lies with the metaverse concept — the idea that users will live, work and exercise inside a virtual universe.

Shocking Scotland loss was at the back of Bangladesh players’ minds during Oman tie

0

The shocking defeat to Scotland in their opening First Round Group B match was at the back of the Bangladesh cricketers’ minds when they took on Oman in their second ICC T20 World Cup match on Tuesday evening, conceded veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Bangladed defeated co-hosts Oman by 26 runs after posting 153, thanks to a half century by Mohammad Naim (64) and Shakib’s 29-ball 42, which laid the platform for the victory.

However, Shakib, who will have to shoulder much of the responsibility in the T20 World Cup in order to guide Bangladesh to the ‘Super 12’ stage, said during the post-match press conference, that Oman needed 84 runs in the last 10 overs, which was quite achievable, and that Bangladesh had to really tighten their game to ensure the co-hosts don’t reach target.

To a pointed question on the “massive difference” in the efforts put in by Bangladesh in the last 10 overs compared to the first 10, Shakib said, “Well, when we were playing the last game against Scotland, so we needed 86 runs in the last 10 overs. They (Oman) needed 84 runs today (October 19) in the last 10 overs. We had to do our basics right, and we knew what ball we should bowl on that track. So I think the bowler adjusted really well, and that paid off.”

In a closely-contested match against Scotland, Bangladesh lost by only six runs chasing 140 in the opening T20 World Cup match on October 17 and Bangladesh thought anything between 80-90 runs in the last 10 overs could be achieved by Oman.

There were a few dropped catches in the first 10 overs, but Bangladesh tightened their fielding and bowling to make a quick turnaround and restrict Oman to 127/9.

On the huge support his side got from the crowd despite Oman being the home team, Shakib said, “I think India and Pakistan, most places we go, we find this sort of crowd. They keep on supporting us no matter what. Thanks to them. They were there supporting. I hope they’ll continue their support.”

Nagarjuna to lock horns with Telugu biggies during Sankranti 2022

Telugu cinema’s top hero Akkineni Nagarjuna is repeating his partnership with the director Kalyan Krishna, with whom he had collaborated for the 2016 hit movie ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’, for their upcoming film ‘Bangarraju’.

Billed as a romance and family drama, ‘Bangarraju’ is being slated by its producers for a Sankranti release next year. In fact, ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ had also hit the screens on Sankranti (January 15, 2016) and became one of the biggest hits of the year.

‘Bangarraju’, however, is up for some serious competition, for Telugu cinema’s most anticipated films are all lined up for the Sankranti season.

The major star vehicles set for a Sankranti 2022 release include ‘Bheemla Nayak’ starring Pawan Kalyan, Rana Daggubati and Nithya Menen; ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ with Mahesh Babu and Keerthy Suresh; the Prabhas and Pooja Hegde-starrer ‘Radhe Shyam’; and the much-anticipated ‘RRR’ with NTR and Ram Charan.

Well, Nagarjuna won’t be alone when he takes on these movies. If the industry grapevine is to be believed, the ‘Bangarraju’ cast includes Ramya Krishna as Nagarjuna’s female lead, while Naga Chaitanya and Krithi Shetty play the other couple.

World Snooker Qualifiers: Pankaj Advani shines with 121-point effort

0

India’s most celebrated cueist, Pankaj Advani (PSPB) neatly constructed a brilliant 121 points effort as he rallied splendidly from the loss of the opening two frames to prevail over Dhvaj Haria (PSPB) 4-2 and record his fourth successive win in the Men’s ‘Y’ Camp (1st leg) round-robin league matches of the World Snooker Qualifiers, a BSFI National Selection Tournament on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old India No. 2 Advani, started hesitantly and the left-handed Dhvaj cashed on the opportunities to take a 2-0 lead. But, the cool and calculated Advani, winner of multiple World titles, showed his class as he turned on the magic in compiling a stupendous run which drew loud cheers and applause from the goodly crowds as he went on to win the third frame and get back into the match.

That three-figure break, the highest break so far in the competition, seemed to have knocked the fight out of Haria as the Bengaluru-based Advani went on to comfortable win the next three frames to complete a satisfying 29-74, 31-79, 121(121)-00, 69-14, 69-03 and 72-17 win.

On Monday night, Advani had defeated Pushpender Singh (RSPB) 4-1 (68(51)-34, 86-01, 00-86(86), 120(84)-11, 61-25) win, the organisers informed in a release on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, National champions Aditya Mehta (Men) and Vidya Pillai (Women) both suffered setbacks. The 35-year-old Mehta (PSPB) came lost to Dhvaj Haria (PSPB) who played steadily to clinch a 4-2 (13-87, 79-39, 44-55, 82-00, 67-01, 71-36) victory late on Monday. However, Mehta regained his winning form and with breaks of 83 (2nd frame), 72 (4th), and 56 (5th) defeated Pushpender Singh (RSPB) 4-1 (55-19, 98(83)-00, 56-65(46), 129(72)-00 and 69(56)-33) to keep his qualifying hopes alive.

In the women’s contest, Vidya of Karnataka came up with a tremendous break of 81 in the third frame but that effort went in vain as she was unable to prevent Tamil Nadu’s Anupama Ramachandran from scripting a hard-earned 3-2 (47-37, 41-71, 01-81(81), 92-34 and 83-38) victory. Earlier, Vidya got the better of compatriot Chitra Magimairaj 3-1 (74-8, 14-70, 58-37, and 44-29).

Results:
Men – Y-camp (1st leg): Aditya Mehta (PSPB) beat Pushpender Singh (RSPB) 4-1 (55-19, 98(83)-00, 56-65(46), 129(72)-00, 69(56)-33); Pankaj Advani (PSPB) beat Dhvaj Haria (PSPB) 4-2 (29-74, 31-79, 121(121)-00, 69-14, 69-03, 72-17); Laxman Rawat (PSPB) beat Neeraj Kumar (RSPB) 4-3 (92(56)-3, 69(61)-24, 68-26, 32-70, 26-81, 42-61, 54-16).

NASA’s Perseverance rover captures sounds on Mars

0

Two microphones aboard the six-wheeled Perseverance rover have captured nearly five hours of Martian wind gusts, rover wheels crunching over gravel, and motors whirring as the spacecraft moves its arm.

These sounds allow scientists and engineers to experience the Red Planet in new ways, NASA said.

“It’s like you’re really standing there,” said Baptiste Chide, a planetary scientist who studies data from the microphones at L’Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planetologie in France, in a statement.

“Martian sounds have strong bass vibrations, so when you put on headphones, you can really feel it. I think microphones will be an important asset to future Mars and solar system science,” he added.

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover carries two microphones which are directly recording sounds on the Red Planet, including the Ingenuity helicopter and the rover itself at work.

It is the first spacecraft to record the sound of the Red Planet using dedicated microphones — both of which were commercially available, off-the-shelf devices. One rides on the side of the rover’s chassis. The second mic sits on Perseverance’s mast as a complement to the SuperCam laser instrument’s investigations of rocks and the atmosphere.

The body mic was provided by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, while the SuperCam instrument and its microphone were provided by the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico and a consortium of French research laboratories under the auspices of the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES).

The rover’s chassis mic is well-positioned to listen to its wheels and other internal systems.

SuperCam studies rocks and soil by zapping them with a laser, then analysing the resulting vapour with a camera. Because the laser pulses up to hundreds of times per target, opportunities to capture the sound of those zaps quickly add up: the microphone has already recorded more than 25,000 laser shots.

Some of those recordings are teaching scientists about changes in the planet’s atmosphere.

An audio dimension can also aid in spacecraft maintenance. Engineers use cameras to monitor the wheel wear on Curiosity rover and dust accumulating on InSight’s solar panels. With microphones, they could also check a spacecraft’s performance the way mechanics might listen to a car engine, NASA said.

The Perseverance team is amassing loads of recordings from the rover’s chassis mic, which is well-positioned to listen to its wheels and other internal systems. While there aren’t enough recordings yet to detect any changes, over time, engineers may be able to pore over that data and discern subtle differences, like additional electric current going to a particular wheel. This would add to the ways they already monitor the spacecraft’s health.

Apple ceases iOS 15.0.1 code signing ahead of iOS 15.1 release

0

Apple has stopped code signing for iOS 15.0.1, effectively blocking downgrades to the operating system version released in October.

According to AppleInsider, the halt to code signing arrives just under three weeks after iOS 15.0.1 was issued to patch a number of iOS 15 launch bugs, including a problem that prevented users from unlocking iPhone with Apple Watch.

Other bugs, like a “storage full” alert and a reported lock screen bypass, were also remedied with the minor point release. A second update, iOS 15.0.2, was pushed out last week with additional fixes for the Find My app, CarPlay and more.

Apple debuted its next-generation mobile operating system in late September, introducing iPhone users to a slew of new features, improvements and user interface modifications.

Tentpole features include Live Text and Visual Look Up, Focus, upgraded Apple Maps, Health app updates, iCloud+ integration, a Safari redesign and more, the report said.

Apple routinely stops signing legacy code after the release of a new iOS build to protect customers from nefarious actors attempting to take advantage of newly discovered vulnerabilities.

Preventing users from downloading older code also allows Apple to keep more iOS devices on the latest, feature-rich software, as per the report.

With Apple no longer signing iOS 15.0.1 code, the only viable release is iOS 15.0.2, but that will change in the near future.

On Monday, the iPhone maker issued a release candidate for iOS 15.1, which will deliver promised features like SharePlay and Wallet support for Covid-19 vaccination cards.

Best Tips to Win Teen Patti

0

Teen Patti is one of the favorite card games of Indians. It has been around since time immemorial, and it is fortunate to know that it is now being offered in almost all online casinos that accept Indian players. However, for non-Indian players, the challenge is how to increase the possibility of winning while playing Teen Patti.

This article will discuss Teen Patti, how you can increase your chances of winning, and what you can do to minimize your losses. Below are the tips and guides to winning Teen Patti.

  • It is a must to understand the mechanics of winning – When playing Teen Patti, you can’t win at every game you play, especially that the game involves luck. So what you can do about it is to minimize your losses. You can eventually make more money in the long run by maximizing the pot size.
  • Be clever in disguising your hand – Your opponent can easily predict your card if you bet big to grow the big pot. Even if you have a favorable hand, it will help if you are going to call a couple of rounds to keep the weak hands in the pot. It is more like using a “bluff strategy,” causing the pot value to grow bigger.
  • Make sure you restrict your bluff – The bluffing strategy can only be rewarding when done the right way and at the right time. If the timing is wrong, you will be in big trouble. If you are a beginner, you should refrain from using the bluffing strategy as it could be a recipe for disaster. If the cards dealt to you is bad, you might as well fold your hand and wait for the next opportunity.
  • Know the gaming strategy of your opponent – It would be an advantage on your part if you are going to learn how to read the movements and facial expressions of your opponent. Learning the actions of your opponents includes picking up on patterns. By looking at the pattern, you will know if the opponent has a strong or weak hand.
  • Keep your focus in the game – It is easy for players to lose interest in the game, and when that time comes, you are setting yourself to a disaster. Instead, gather your thoughts together, focus on the game, and pay attention to the bets made, especially the hands that are being shown.
  • Consider adapting to a different level of Teen Patti – Playing Teen Patti online requires different skills, especially in bluffing the opponents. It is all about the mind game. You have to learn the skill of being unpredictable, so your opponent will find it hard to calculate your next move.
  • Learn how to find and keep track of the fish – When playing Teen Patti online, your chances of winning are low if you face off against people, especially opponents who are better at playing the game. If you want to guarantee your winning, you have to play against less skilled players as they are prone to making mistakes than you.
  • Do not let your emotions get in the way – When playing Teen Patti, there’s so much luck involved. Even if you are playing a solid game, there is a tendency that you will experience a long losing streak. When this happens, you tend to be impulsive with your decision and let impulsiveness get in the way. If you want to increase your chances of winning, you have to learn how to control your emotions. Do not let your emotions get in the way. If you let your emotion get the best of you, you will end up to more losing streaks.

Playing Teen Patti online is different than playing at a brick-and-mortar casino. In a land-based casino, you can see your opponent and physically observer their actions and demeanor. From there, you can come up with the right strategy that will increase your chances of winning. But, on the other hand, playing Teen Patti online requires a different level of skills and approach. Google’s app privacy briefings to go live in Play Store in Feb 2022

0

Tech giant Google is one step closer to launching its new data privacy section for Play Store apps.

According to The Verge, the app developers can now fill out the relevant details via Google’s new “Data safety form” on the Play Console.

The company said the required information will be visible to users from February 2022 and mandatory for developers to submit by April that same year.

This new feature was announced back in May, after Apple started showing similar privacy and data disclaimers for apps in the App Store last December.

The data section is supposed to give consumers a quick and simple overview of what apps are doing with their information.

Developers will be encouraged to tell users the following — what type of data their app collects, including “location, contacts, personal information (e.g., name, email address), financial information, and more; whether this data is optional or required to use the app; whether or not the app encrypts data in transit; if the app has been independently reviewed “for conformance with a global security standard.”

Developers can now enter this information via the Google Play Console, and Google has added guides for developers to help them navigate this new requirement, the report said.

‘Bigg Boss Telugu 5’: VJ Sunny catches Nagarjuna’s eye, riles housemates

After the weekend eliminations, Swetaa Varma was sent home, leaving 13 competitors in fray for the ‘Bigg Boss Telugu 5′ trophy. Every day that goes by, Bigg Boss delivers more content from competitors.

VJ Sunny, who appeared to be a marginal player in the reality show, has picked up with performances and game plans. Monday’s nomination process had given the power to Sunny, Jaswanth and Sree Rama Chandra, the singer, the power to decide on the fate of the other contestants’ nominations.

Sree Rama Chandra and Jaswanth failed to use their powers, leaving the filed open to Sunny, who put up a great show. He grabbed the powers to nominate in all the rounds and just accepted Priya’s flaky reason to nominate Ravi, even though she mentioned that it was a trap to expose Sunny. That clearly upset others in the house.

Knowing that Priya, Priyanka, Shanmukh and Siri had another plan, he countered them with his own. It did upset them, and Ravi as well, who felt it was not right on the part of Sunny to decide on the nominations in such a frivolous manner. Anne, Siri, Shanmukh, Priya and Priyanka were seen visibly upset, as they talked about how Sunny had cleverly saved his friend Manas from the nominations.

The housemates may have thought Sunny fell into their trap, but Bigg Boss viewers did not share their view. Most of the viewers seem to believe that Sunny did the right thing by giving it back to Priya, who resorted to foul play. Even the host Nagarjuna mentioned that Sunny has become quite entertaining with his clever game plans.

For the next weekend’s eliminations, Anne Master, Siri, Priya, Ravi, RJ Kajal, Sree Rama Chandra, Jaswanth and Lobo are in the line. Who’ll be the next to exit the house? That’ll only be known in the weekend ahead.
