Divyanka Tripathi on being away from Vivek Dahiya for ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ shoot

Actress Divyanka Tripathi, who is currently shooting in Cape Town for the stunt-based reality show “Khatron Ke Khiladi 11” says that it was tough leaving her husband, actor Vivek Dahiya, at home.

The actress says this is the first time since they got married in July 2016 that they will be apart for so long.

“This is the first time after our marriage that I am leaving Vivek alone for so many days. We have got emotional many times. For the last week, we have been preparing ourselves for this day when I will leave for Cape Town. Leaving him and going makes me very sad,” she told.

The actress also adds that the family members of all contestants have been reluctant to let them leave the country amidst the pandemic.

“During the pandemic, it’s tough for family members to let us go. So, I think they are the biggest ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ for letting us go in this phase,” she says.

However, a part of her is also overjoyed at being given a chance to engage in something adventurous again.

“I am excited that I am going to do something that was pending for a long time. Before coming to Mumbai, I used to get a lot of chances to participate in adventurous activities. Since I came to Mumbai, I have just been working for the last 15 years. I have not touched this aspect of my personality for a while. It was a long-awaited opportunity,” she says, adding: “I used to participate in a lot of camps when I was a kid. I used to stay outside home in 10-day or 50 day-camps, so I was in the habit of staying alone. After coming to Mumbai, This is the first time I am going alone.”

On the deadly second wave of Covid, Divyanka says: “It is a tough time for the industry, but it is not limited to our industry. In any profession, they are going through a tough time. In fact, we, actors are used to it.”

“We are used to this pattern. When we are working, we do it rigorously and work for extended hours and schedules are erratic. But when we don’t have work, like between shows, we work on ourselves and that’s what we are doing. We are taking care of ourselves and our families. We are trying to stay safe because currently more than work, life is important. We are trying to be healthy mentally and keep doing activities at home or play games to distract ourselves and keep ourselves happy. During this time, mental health is important, and it is important to stay in touch with your loved ones at all times,” she concludes.

Tokyo Olympics: Dessert off-limits for Indian rowers

0

Dessert will not be on the menu of Olympic-bound Indian rowers as they look to manage their weight during training over the next 70 days.

“Weight control is the trickiest part of training. That’s why dessert will be strictly banned in the final camp which starts next week in Pune. As per rules, the average weight of the team should be 140 kg. The upper weight limit for an individual is 72.5kg. If one athlete is in the upper limit category the other should then weigh 67.5 kg. If the team weighs more than 140 kg, it will be disqualified,” rowing coach Ismail Baig told.

The camp will start on May 18 at Army Sports Institute in Pune.

Earlier this month, Arvind Singh, 24, and Arjun Lal Jat, 25, qualified for the Olympic Games in men’s lightweight double scull during the Asian Oceania Olympic qualifying event in Tokyo.

“The national team didn’t make ice cream and sweets from February to April to prepare for the Asia Oceania Olympic qualifying competition in May. Both Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Jat of Rajasthan have sweet teeth. It was a tough time for these guys,” added the coach.

Since rowing is strenuous, there has to be the intake of enough calories, the coach added.

“Good nutritious food is a must. Otherwise, rowers will get weak and the performance will decline. A fine blend of protein and carbohydrate is the best,” said the coach while explaining the importance of a good diet.

According to the coach, the focus during the camp will be on tactics.

“The rowers have already reached 98 percent of their optimum level in April. Physically, we can’t push them hard in the last two months. That’s why the focus will be on the tactical part of training as local weather conditions on the rowing course in Tokyo are generally windy,” said Baig.

YouTube TV reaches 10 mn Play Store downloads

0

YouTube TV, a US-only streaming service that includes a number of the biggest channels and premium streaming services in one convenient package, has now hit 10 million Google Play Store downloads.

The base package stands at a whopping 104 networks, which streamlines the quest for one point of access for all of your favorite shows, movies, and sports, 9To5Google reported.

Cloud DVR features, support for up to six accounts, and the ability to stream up to three concurrent live streams are other major reasons that YouTube TV has surged in popularity in recent years, the report said.

As of October 2020, YouTube TV had around 3 million paid subscribers.

Recently, after streaming media player Roku removed the YouTube TV app for new users, Google countered by bringing the cord-cutting service to the main YouTube client.

Google has placed a “Go to YouTube TV” shortcut at the bottom of the main YouTube menu on Roku devices. This will load the YouTube TV experience that is no longer available as a standalone application.

This strategy came as the Play Movies & TV client is shutting down in favor of one YouTube app for everything, the earlier report said.

Meditation helped Alicia Keys to be a good mother, partner, friend

Singer Alicia Keys said that meditation helped her a lot after she became a mom.

“Like so many new moms I was exhausted, but the depletion was more than physiological; my spirit was shot. I needed to do something so I could continue to be a good mother to my children, partner to my husband, and friend to myself,” she said, according to a report in femalefirst.co.uk.

Since she was so tired during those days, she slept off the first time she meditated but got better with time.

“I have to be honest: The first time I tried the meditation, I was so tired that I fell asleep. But the second time, I felt a little spark. I really liked the mixture of chanting, singing, and movement. Between the chanting and the singing and the rhythm and the meaning of these ancient words, I discovered a sense of peace and comfort,” she said.

She added that she was able to connect with herself better, too.

“I started to notice a richer connection with myself, and the ability to go deeper. After years of silence, I could hear myself, trust my instincts, know what I wanted, know what I needed and not feel so insecure.”

Keys has two kids — Egypt, 10, and Genesis, six.

Facebook to roll out campaign to fight Covid related misinformation

0

Social media giant Facebook Thursday announced plans to roll out a new campaign in India to educate and inform people about how to detect misinformation related to Covid-19.

The campaign, to be launched in the coming weeks, will encourage users to check the information they receive against an authentic source such as www.mygov.in/Covid-19/.

The social media giant has also developed six easy tips to fight Covid-19 misinformation. These tips will show up on Facebook through a series of creative adverts, and link out to a dedicated microsite, www.fightCovidmisinfo.com/india/.

Through the website and the adverts, we will encourage people to get the whole story, not just the headline; lookout for a trusted source; share facts, not rumors; get the full context from credible sources; inform friends and family if they are sharing inaccurate information and pause before sharing, Facebook said in a statement.

The campaign and the website will be rolled out in English and 9 Indian languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya, Malayalam, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, and Bengali.

The tech giant has also made significant investments to remove accounts and content that violate Community Standards or Ad Policies and reduce the distribution of misinformation and false news.

“During the pandemic, we’ve removed more than 12 million pieces of harmful misinformation on Covid-19 globally from Facebook and Instagram, including falsehoods about approved vaccines,” it shared in the statement.

Facebook has put warning labels on over 167 million posts marked as false by third-party fact-checkers. When people see warning labels, about 95 percent of the time they do not go on to view the original content, it added.

Facebook has also initiated a campaign in association with some of the leading doctors in the country. The campaign includes a series of 12 videos where Doctors address the most commonly asked questions on Covid-19. The video series — #DoctorKiSuno — will premiere on https://www.facebook.com/FacebookIndiaA and will cover key topics like Covid-19 in children, Diabetes and Covid-19, the mental health impacts of Covid-19 among others.

Aus secures 25mn doses of Moderna Covid vax

0

Australia has secured 25 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine produced by US pharmaceuticals manufacturer Moderna, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Thursday.

The government acquired the doses “to further diversify our vaccine portfolio as well as provide access to a booster or variant vaccine should this be required in the future,” dpa news agency quoted Morrison as saying.

Morrison said the Australian government also remains in discussions with Moderna in relation to establishing a manufacturing facility in Australia for mRNA vaccines.

Domestic manufacturing would ensure a secure, long-term supply of Moderna’s mRNA-based vaccines against Covid-19, including variants, and for potential future pandemics, Morrison said.

The agreement includes 10 million doses in 2021 and 15 million doses of Moderna’s updated variant booster vaccine in 2022.

The use of the Moderna vaccine still needs to be approved as safe and effective by Australia’s regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

An application by Moderna to the TGA is expected shortly, according to the Prime Minister.

People aged under 50 are set to receive the Moderna vaccine, Australian news wire AAP reported.

A complete course of Moderna’s vaccination is likely to be two doses given 28 days apart.

The country of around 25 million people fell far short of its initial target to administer 4 million Covid-19 jabs by the end of March, and last month scrapped its original pledge to vaccinate its entire adult population by October.

As of May 11, just over 2.8 million jabs were administered.

So far, Australia has been using the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines.
