The couple collaborated with crowd-funding platform Ketto for the campaign #InThisTogether and has donated Rs 2 crore for this initiative.

Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was the first team to have a match postponed due to Covid-19 cases within the bio-bubble that was created for the 2021 IPL. Zoom gains access to private iPad camera API: Report

Apple has given video-conferencing platform Zoom access to a private iPad camera API, which makes the app being able to use the camera during iPad Split View multitasking.

According to app developer Jeremy Provost, it gives an advantage to the Zoom users to use the Split View multitasking to access Twitter, a notes app, etc, reports 9To5Mac reported.

“We asked Zoom and to our surprise, they gave us the answer and in the process revealed an apparently private process, available only to those deemed worthy by Apple,” Provost said.

To receive access to some API, Apple must give an “entitlement,” which is a right or privilege that grants an executable particular capabilities, the report said.

While Apple provides public documentation and a process for requesting access to entitlements, for example, Provost discovered that there isn’t a public process for requesting this specific API.

The reports said that it is called com.apple.developer.avfoundation.multitasking-camera-access.

Unfortunately, unlike with CarPlay, there is no public process for requesting this entitlement. In fact, its existence is not even documented by Apple publicly.

On the other hand, in the aSpring Loaded’ event in April, Apple announced a feature called Center Stage, exclusively available on the M1 iPad Pro and will let all video-conference apps be able to take advantage of it if their developers choose to.

With the Center Stage feature, the Ultra-Wide front camera will be able to track the user in a conference and position him in the center of the frame.

GizmoChina, citing leaks, reported that the Zenfone 8 Mini will pack a 5.9-inch Samsung E4 AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution.

The display also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and the Under-display fingerprint scanner.

There is equally a Gorilla Glass Victus protection onboard and the dimension of the device is given as 148 x 68.5 x 8.9mm and it weighs just 169 grams, the report said.

According to the report, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor will be paired with up to 16GB RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 flash storage.

The phone will get its power supply from a 4000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.

For photography, there will be a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor onboard.

Earlier leaks point to triple camera sensors and these include a 12MP wide-angle camera and a macro sensor.

The device will also have a selfie camera and won’t be using the pop-up camera mechanism that heralded the Zenfone 7 series.

The report also revealed that the ASUS Zenfone 8 Mini will come with three microphones as well as OZO audio.

Why some patients test positive for Covid long after recovery

Some virus RNA can be reverse transcribed and inserted into the human genome, finds a new study, which may explain why some people who had already recovered from Covid-19 would sometimes inexplicably test positive on a PCR test weeks or even months later.

Researchers from the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, showed that genetic sequences from the RNA virus SARS-CoV-2 can integrate into the genome of the host cell through a process called reverse transcription. These sections of the genome can then be “read” into RNAs, which could potentially be picked up by a PCR test. The results are published online 6 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

SARS-CoV-2 is not the only virus that integrates into the human genome. Around 8 per cent of our DNA consists of the remnants of ancient viruses. Some viruses, called retroviruses, rely on integration into human DNA in order to replicate themselves.

“SARS-CoV-2 is not a retrovirus, which means it doesn’t need reverse transcription for its replication,” said first author Liguo Zhang, postdoctoral researcher at Whitehead Institute.

“However, non-retroviral RNA virus sequences have been detected in the genomes of many vertebrate species, including humans.” Zhang added.

With this in mind, the team analysed published datasets of RNA transcripts from different types of samples, including Covid-19 patient samples, to test whether this viral integration could be happening with the novel coronavirus.

They were able to calculate the fraction of genes that were transcribed in these patients’ cells which contained viral sequences that could be derived from integrated viral copies.

The percentage varied from sample to sample, but for some, a relatively large fraction of viral transcripts seem to have been transcribed from viral genetic material integrated into the genome.

For SARS-CoV-2, the frequency of integration in humans is still unknown. “The fraction of cells which integrate could be very small,” said Rudolf Jaenisch, professor of biology at MIT.

“But even if it’s rare, there are more than 140 million people who have been infected already, right?”Jaenisch said.

Elon Musk to send Dogecoin-funded satellite to Moon

Elon Musk-run SpaceX is now accepting the new cryptocurrency Dogecoin to launch an upcoming satellite named DOGE-1 to the Moon.

The DOGE-1 is a cubesat to acquire “lunar-spatial intelligence” using onboard cameras and sensors, reports The Verge.

The satellite is being developed by Geometric Energy Corporation and it will be flown onboard a Falcon 9 rocket in the first quarter of 2022.

“We’re excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!” said Tom Ochinero, vice president of commercial sales at SpaceX.

As Tesla CEO Elon Musk hosted the Saturday Night Live show on TV last weekend, Dogecoin which is fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market value and promoted by Musk fell sharply.

Trading platform Robinhood also crashed for cryptocurrency users.

After vouching for Bitcoin, Tesla CEO Elon Musk now supports Dogecoin cryptocurrency, even calling him “Dogefather”.

Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency invented by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, who decided to create a payment system. Nearly 113 billion coins have already been mined.

Amid the surge in Bitcoin and Ether cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin has surged more than 659 per cent this year.

Tesla recently announced it has invested $1.5 billion in the Bitcoin cryptocurrency.
