Visakhapatnam Port Authority Secures Third Place in Cargo Transport:
The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved the third rank among India’s major ports for cargo transportation from April to July 2023.
The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) conducted a performance evaluation of major ports during this period and determined that the VPA managed 33.14 million tonnes of cargo, reflecting a 3% growth compared to the same period last year.
MoPSW assesses major ports’ performance based on criteria such as cargo volume, pre-berthing detention time, turnaround time, output per ship berth day, and idle time at berth. The VPA has made notable progress in all these areas.
For instance, the port has reduced its pre-berthing detention time by 65%, increased its turnaround time by 16%, raised its output per ship berth day by 14%, and extended its idle time at berth by 4%.
M. Angamuthu, Chairperson of the VPA, extended congratulations to the port’s employees and stevedores for their dedicated efforts, which contributed to this achievement. He also affirmed the port’s commitment to further enhancing its performance with the aim of becoming the leading cargo-handling port in India.
