New calling functionality on WhatsApp’s iOS beta
WhatsApp, a messaging platform owned by Meta, is introducing a new calling button and context menu in its iOS beta version. According to WABetaInfo, if users have the feature enabled, they will see a different calling icon.
While group participants can still make group calls, the updated icon will display a context menu offering the option to choose between audio or video calls. Previously, an action sheet menu appeared with these options, but it has now been replaced with a context menu.
The new calling button is currently available to select beta testers who have installed the latest version of W’App beta for iOS via the TestFlight app. It is expected to be rolled out to more users gradually in the coming weeks.
Additionally, WhatsApp recently introduced a ‘companion mode’ feature for iPhone users, allowing them to link their existing account to a second iOS device. This enables users to connect up to four devices simultaneously, expanding the capability beyond two mobile phones for a single WhatsApp account.
