Sri Lankan Navy detains 17 fishermen from Tamil Nadu
On Thursday, the Sri Lankan Navy arrested seventeen fishermen from the Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu, India, for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and entering Sri Lanka’s territorial waters.
According to sources from the Tamil Nadu Coastal police, they were operating in three boats and were engaged in fishing activities near Neduntheevu. Sri Lankan naval officers arrived at the scene, apprehended the seventeen individuals, and confiscated their boats. They were subsequently transported to Kankesanthurai for further interrogation.
They had departed from the Pudukottai coast on Wednesday morning.
