Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has had a successful run at the box office this year. His horror-comedy ‘Bhooth Bangla’ emerged as a superhit, while ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ also managed to deliver a positive result. However, his upcoming thriller ‘Haiwaan’ is currently struggling to generate the same level of excitement.
Directed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan, the film features Akshay Kumar alongside Saif Ali Khan. Interestingly, Akshay is set to play the antagonist in the movie. ‘Haiwaan’ is reportedly an adaptation of the Malayalam thriller ‘Oppam’, which was also directed by Priyadarshan.
Despite the impressive combination of talent, the promotional material released so far has failed to create the expected impact among audiences. The film’s current buzz remains relatively low compared to the expectations attached to its cast and director.
Trade circles are reportedly estimating an opening of around Rs. 6–8 crores nett, which would be considered below expectations for a project featuring such prominent names.
The key question now is whether ‘Haiwaan’ can overcome its limited pre-release buzz through strong content and positive word of mouth. While the film still has the potential to pick up after its release, its current hype is certainly not where it needs to be.
