“It was difficult to live in Singapore since the government allowed HDB”

A woman of Indian origin living in Singapore faced backlash and ultimately deleted her LinkedIn account after posting controversial remarks about “House and Development Board (HDB) people” and “private residence people.”

Satwant Kaur, a resident of Singapore since 1981, expressed her difficulty living in the country due to the government allowing HDB residents to work in private residential areas. She argued that their extended presence could threaten the preservation of her unique identity.

Kaur described herself as a ‘nationalist’ and highlighted the differences in outlook between HDB residents and those living in private properties when it comes to community building.

Her post received criticism for its discriminatory views, leading to the deletion of her LinkedIn account. The incident gained attention on other social media platforms, generating over 300 comments on Reddit.
