LCU Buzz: Anushka Shetty Reportedly in Talks for Kaithi 2
The Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe (LCU) is currently South India’s most ambitious and celebrated film universe, bringing together iconic stars like Karthi, Suriya, Vijay, and Kamal Haasan. Now, if reports are to be believed, Anushka Shetty might be the next big name to join this powerhouse lineup in the much-awaited sequel Kaithi 2.
Kaithi 2 Prep Begins Post-Coolie
The LCU began with the 2019 blockbuster Kaithi, headlined by Karthi, which laid the foundation for what would become a sprawling cinematic world. Though the sequel was teased early on, director Lokesh Kanagaraj prioritized other projects, including Vikram and the upcoming Coolie, starring Rajinikanth along with Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Aamir Khan.
With Coolie set for release on August 14, 2025, Lokesh is reportedly beginning pre-production work on Kaithi 2. According to strong industry buzz, Anushka Shetty is in discussions to join the cast, possibly playing Dilli’s (Karthi’s) wife, as the sequel is said to explore a prequel arc that delves into his emotional backstory.
A Comeback Boost for Anushka
If finalized, this role would mark a major comeback move for Anushka Shetty into the commercial action space. She previously starred opposite Karthi in Alex Pandian (2013). Her upcoming film, Ghaati, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, is set to release on July 11, while she also stars in the Malayalam fantasy thriller Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer by Rojin Thomas.
Karthi’s Sequel Marathon
Meanwhile, Karthi is on a sequel spree. Alongside Kaithi 2, he has wrapped up Sardar 2, and is reportedly lined up for Aayirathil Oruvan 2, Theeran Adhigaram Ondru 2, and HIT 4. The official announcement for Kaithi 2‘s cast and crew is expected shortly after the release of Coolie.
If Anushka joins the cast, Kaithi 2 could not only elevate the LCU’s emotional core but also become one of the biggest South Indian blockbusters to watch for in 2026.
