Andhra Pradesh (AP) to contest Krishna water allocation in Supreme Court:
The Minister for Water Resources, Ambati Rambabu, stated on Saturday that the state government has formally requested the Central government to address the challenges it faces concerning the distribution of Krishna River water. He emphasized the government’s willingness to engage in a legal dispute regarding the allocation of Krishna water, including the possibility of approaching the Supreme Court if necessary.
During a press conference held in Vijayawada on Saturday, Minister Rambabu highlighted that Section 89 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act has already outlined the terms of reference (ToR) for the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal regarding water allocations to both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Rambabu firmly stated, “The formulation of new terms of reference is not feasible. They are deemed illegal and unacceptable. We strongly condemn these unjust and unlawful terms of reference. I want to announce that the state government has decided to take legal action on this matter.
Despite prior letters from Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the gazette notification was published. The state government will soon file a special leave petition with the Supreme Court to challenge the new procedures established for the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal. We are resolute in pursuing this legal battle.”
