Argentinian midfielder Rubens Sambueza leaves Pachuca

Date:

Veteran Argentinian midfielder Rubens Sambueza has parted ways with Mexican side Pachuca amid reports linking him with a return to America.

The 36-year-old made just 18 Liga MX appearances for Los Tuzos, having joined the club from Leon last July, reports Xinhua news agency.

“I will always be grateful to Pachuca for giving me the opportunity to play for such a great institution,” Sambueza said on Instagram.

“Thanks to the club’s employees who made me feel comfortable and kept an eye on me since I arrived. Thanks to my teammates and coaching staff for giving me the confidence to play and enjoy my football.”

The announcement came a month before Sambueza’s contract was due to expire and just 10 days after the Liga MX cancelled its Clausura tournament because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Local media reported that Sambueza is holding talks with America — whom he represented from 2012 to 2016 — ahead of the scheduled start of the Apertura tournament in July.

Sambueza’s 18-year-long professional career has included spells with Argentinian giants River Plate and Brazil’s Flamengo.
