Asia Cup 2023: India-Nepal Match Resumes After Rain Delay:
The India-Nepal Group A clash in the Asia Cup will resume following a one-hour rain delay at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. There will be no reduction in overs, and the match is set to continue on Monday.
Rain had brought the game to a halt at 5:45 pm local time, with the entire field covered. However, by 6:24 p.m., the covers were removed, and some Indian players utilized the break for catching practice. At 6:30 p.m., on-field umpires Paul Wilson and Ruchira Palliyaguruge, along with the fourth umpire, conducted an inspection, and subsequently, the ground was declared fit for play to resume at 6:45 p.m.
Prior to the rain interruption, Ravindra Jadeja had an impressive performance, taking three wickets as India restricted Nepal to 178-6 in 37.5 overs. This match marks the first-ever men’s ODI encounter between the two teams.
On a pitch-favoring spin, Nepal displayed a much-improved batting performance compared to their previous match against Pakistan, where they were dismissed for 104 runs. Wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh played brilliantly, scoring 58 runs off 97 balls, including eight fours. Nepal also benefited from some inconsistent bowling by India and numerous fielding errors, resulting in dropped catches in the initial five overs and several misfields.
Jadeja played a pivotal role for India, maintaining control in the game with figures of 3-35 in nine overs, while Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur contributed with two and one wicket respectively. So finally Asia Cup 2023 today match happened normally.
