Asif Ali Zardari was sworn in as Pakistan’s 14th President at the President’s House on Sunday, as confirmed by a statement from the President’s Office. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa in a ceremony attended by outgoing President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, military chiefs, politicians, and foreign dignitaries.
Following his victory in the election on Saturday, Zardari, Co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party Parliamentarians, secured 411 votes against 181 from all electoral colleges, including parliament and provincial assemblies, as announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan. In a joint session of the parliament, Zardari garnered 255 votes, along with substantial support from various provinces, marking his second term as President at the age of 68 and becoming the first civilian to hold the position twice in Pakistan’s history.
